Adonia Fly cruise Cancelled

It looks like p&o are cancelling at least one if not all of Adonia's Fly cruises to the med next November.

Any one know what is behind this?

Personally, if I was spending £4k + on a Med holiday cruise, I would choose May- Sept, so November isn't doing it for me. Also the luggage restrictions are so low now, that I couldn't manage with one case lol.!!

Adonia even had trouble filling the cabins on its Christmas and New Year 2011 cruise, its first christmas cruise with the Fleet. Perhaps its not as popular as hoped. Too small for me.

I have never understood P&Os marketing of Adonia. There is imo a market for a smaller ship concentrating on less visited ports. This is an attractive proposition for many regular passengers who are tiring of the standard ports such as Vigo, Livorno and Civitavecchia. I do not understand however, why they made her adults only, ruling out many regular passengers who travel with children and also pricing many single passengers out of the market with the resultant sky high single supplements. If they had opened her up to everyone including children, albeit with no special childrens facilities, and kept single supplements down I am sure that she would be more popular.

I'm sure she's a lovely ship, but for us, being so small, she offers far too little choice once on board.

Having no evening buffet would be an absolute no-no for us, as my husband simply can't sit throughout dinner for two hours each evening.

It would appear P&O have got it wrong this time!

Are we the only ones that are happy that there is a "small" ship in the P & O fleet:cool:

The only comment I can make at this point, before we sail on her, yes, it is a pity that there isn't an evening buffet, every night - only speciality ones occasionally. But shall reserve judgement until we sail.

Having been on an "R" ship previously, do love the country style it offers, but then that is only my "humble" opinion:)

Oceania and Azamara certainly, and Princess (perhaps to a lesser extent) manage to fill their R ships all year round. Of course, they market the ships as very high quality, with inclusive drinks and excursions, and multiple speciality restaurants. Also less formal than P&O - 'county club casual' seems to be ethos.

Maybe P&O are just pitching it wrongly?

This could be some of the many reason's why adonia has been canceled next year in the med. Well what can i say Adonia left southampton 29th october 2011 this was a cruise experience one i shall never forget for all the wrong reasons. The weather leaving southampton was awfull dull over cast and raining and it just got worse and worse as the boat attempted to cruise around the med. One particular frighteneing incident happened when the boat broke its back moorings and the vessel started to drift away from the berth. The steps moored on the quay side and atached on the boat end up in the sea as the adverse weather conditions struck the boat. The emergency servces were very quick to decend upon the harbour. Looking out on the other side of the boat it was an image of dunkirk as the boats and tugs in the area rushed to adonia to push her back into the berth. The second awful experience was when the adverse weather conditions took control yet again and the boat was unable to dock in monte carlo. The captain made a decision not to dock but forgot to tell the passangers what he thought was best. 24 hours later on the television sceen itconfirmed our unknow destiny like a game of snakes in and out of the sea. Many other issues happened on this cruise so to cancel this boat in the med next year would probally be doing the passangers and staff a big +

favour

A few reasons perhaps:

Too many ships and not enough customers, especially in winter.

Times are difficult, and probally will be for years, plus lots more cruise companies bringing ships to the UK.

General impression that P&O have gone down market, we were on Eclipse recently, and were intervieved by an author writing a book about cruising, who was surprised how many ex P&O passengers had moved to Celebrity.

Hi everyone, my wife and I have taken to cruising like a duck to water, tried a short one several years ago (2008) with Carnival (Sensation) out of Port Canaveral which was a short 4 night cruise, discovered that it was more of a party ship so decided to go for Celebrity (Equinox) out of Fort Lauderdale in 2009, fantastic had a rear balcony and wow the service was excellent. I could not fault it.

Have now booked to go on P & O (Azure) in March around the caribbean again from Barbados, I have just seen in the forum that P & O customers are starting to go towards Celebrity because the service has dropped, I still can't wait to get on board and set sail even after reading that snippit of information.:)

We hope to meet other fellow Cruise Critic members on our travels and tell tales of the high seas, my wife says calm seas.

Stay Safe......

Hi folks. I'm fortunate enough to get onboard as a guest speaker for P&O - I talk about my experiences as a vet. It's just a hobby but proving to be a great one having had some memorable trips and meeting some memorable passengers.

All I'll add to the above comments is that often it's what you make of the cruise. From what I've observed of the crew they really do their utmost to make your trip a good expereince for you. OK the weather may turn out bad but that's in the lap of the Gods.

So go with the flow and enjoy.

Oh, if ever you come across a 'funny' vet onboard (aka Malcolm Welshman) do please introduce yourself. He doesn't bite. But save any catty remarks until he's out of earshot.

Nothing wrong with the AZURA (Not Azure;)) She's a lovely brand new ship. Much bigger ofcourse than the ship we are discussing Adonia. Lots to do, with shows before and after dinner, so you can see a show, have dinner then go and see a comedian or tribute act after. Lots of different places to eat. You will love her!

We loved Azura.. especially Sindu.. we were lucky that Atul was on board . There is plenty to do at night but many venues get crowded and many people dont seem to move off after the first show.. so if there is something you really do want to see .. i suggest you go to the first show...

Probably. Whilst I like large ships like Ventura, I started my cruising on smaller ships carrying circa 800 passengers and some of my most enjoyable cruises have been on ships of that size. I do not gamble and rarely see shows, so the absence of casino and theatre does not bother me. I do not however, find Adonia as she stands an attractive proposition - too formal and adult only - and am unlikely to sail on her. If however, she had been marketed as an up market child tolerant casual ship like those of Regent or the lines you quote, visiting ports not usually visited by the larger ship, I would have found her an attractive proposition.

Adonia is a lovely small ship but she has not been marketed properly by P&0, Although the weather conditions was awfull the lack of on board entertainmet was very evident. The captain asked for an entertainments programme to be put on as the adonia could not stop in Monte Carlo due to the bad weather conditions therfore the passangers spent the next 24hrs a sea.

The programme was sparse it began with a church service then in door bowels on a green carpet and a quiz. The couple of shows were great but spoilt by passangers asking for another drink at midnight and the reply from the bar staff was good night bar closed. I'm sure when this ship goes on a world cruise this type of entertainment would be ok. When adonia is on shorter holiday cruising the entertainment has got to step up and stop portrating an empty vesel.Come on P&O get your act together and fill Adonia with a bit of life!!!!!!!!

We have tried Celebrity (Summit and Equinox) and liked it but have come back to P&O because we feel it offers us a better overall experience. I'd sum it up by saying we find it more fun with better entertainment and activities on the P&O ships and also they offer much better value for money onboard.

We sailed on this ship when she was the Royal Princess ,down the Amazon also been on her sister ship(ex R ship) Azamara Journey.Enjoyed them both immensely, plus NO children.Having just come of a Costa cruise with bairns, I will be glad to get away from the little darlings.Cruising is not a "chlidrens" thing, even with all of the facilitiies now given to keeping them happy it does not always work, as the running up and down the hall ways at midnight prove.

Incidently I have just finalised our cruising history too date, 1998 start, 43 cruises including 1 nile 1 rhine 1 danube 1 moscow/st peterburg( not one river but canals as well) I think we are cruised out, any ships go near macchu piccu????(ha ha )

Sailoruk, no you are not the only ones. Sounds like heaven to me and looks lovely. The best cruises we have done were on a small ship withy 90 passengers, no buffets on that ship either.

Sounds like heaven to me too, which is why I'm booked on her next year. But I don't want to fly cruise - although I could be persuaded if only they would offer more regional choices.

I don't want to fly cruise either. It's one of the main reasons that I cruise - don't want to fly!

Some of the problem with Adonia could be the astronomical prices they were charging. a similar cruise on Arcadia was nearly half as much. I realize the price will be a bit higher as they need to cover their costs with fewer passengers, but not that much

Same with Oriana balconies, i have just booked a 7n cruise in a balcony on her and could of had a 2 week cruise on the others for nearly the same price..but we wanted flamm this time and it was the only fjord cruise that fitted in for us...
