FLAHAM Posted November 19, 2011 #201 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Hi Carrie :) In looking over your posts, it appears that you're from the NY area. If that's so, then probably the lobster you have had is cold water lobster - a cousin of the lobster served aboard Norwegian. Although they are cousins, warm water lobster tends to be tough and taste overcooked. I have never had the experience of lobster on a luxury line, but I think it would be very difficult for a mass market line to cook warm water lobster and at the same time make it palatable for hundreds of people. I lived on a boat for 5 years and we wintered each year for 6 months in the Bahamas. We had lots of Caribbean lobster (warm water without claws). After many attempts, I finally figured out how to cook it so that it very closely resembled Maine lobster. Anyway, long story short, if you are unhappy with your food, ask for a replacement or a change and I hope your hubby is feeling better :). Cinci Fresh rock lobster is a true delicacy (like many, I prefer the tails grilled) and many of us in South Florida avidly hunt them during the short seasons. The NCL tails are frozen and grossly overcooked into chewiness.
SuiteCruiser Posted November 19, 2011 #202 Share Posted November 19, 2011 That explains why the only time I like lobster is on a cruise. I've tried it in really nice restaurants and didn't like it at all. I guess I like Caribbean lobsters better :)

halos Posted November 19, 2011 #204 Share Posted November 19, 2011 The NCL tails are frozen and grossly overcooked into chewiness. I have to agree, but it's not an issue. On Lobster night, I order something else and enjoy lobster in LeBistro if I need it...(being from Maine, I seldom 'need' a lobster fix....and no I am not bragging. Living here and having lobster comes with the price of 8 month long winters. I feel I deserve that lobster :D) I ordered lobster in the mdr on NCL and RCI only once and I will never again on either line. CCL on the other hand somehow, some way manages a perfect lobster tail every time. I don't know how they do it, but they do. They have cut back and the tails are smaller han they sed to serve, but they are cooked perfectly.

I have 8 month long winters too but don't have lobster readily available to me.;) So to the dismay of all those on lobster available locations. We have the long winters and our lobster comes straight off the plate at Red Lobster .

Barb Nahoumi Posted November 20, 2011 #213 Share Posted November 20, 2011 In the past, NCL had a "Cooking Light" selection on the MDR Menus. I haven't seen it on recent cruises, and wish that they would bring it back.

RNPJN Posted November 20, 2011 #215 Share Posted November 20, 2011 For those of us who remember the good old days when Freestyle Cruising began, the last few years have seen Norwegian cutting and cutting more of the things that made Freestyle what it was. Here's a short list of just a few: 1. The Souffles at Le Bistro, which were great, are GONE. 2. The Banana Foster at Cagney's is GONE. 3. Espresso at the Specialty Restaurants is now an extra cost. 4. The Colossal Shrimp at Cagney's are no more. 5. The Chocolate Foundue at Le Bistro no longer kept heated at the table. 6. The Onion Soup at Le Bistro no longer topped with gruyere cheese over the bowl-- now the cheese pre-heated on the toast. 7. Anyone remember the WARM creme brulee at Le Bistro?-- also gone. 8. Espresso or Capuccino in the dining rooms is now an extra cost. 9. Effective January 2012, NCL is prohibiting cigar smoking on BALCONIES. For me, this is the opposite of Freestyle. I look forward to smoking 1 fine cigar on my balcony each sea day. If I can't do this anymore on NCL, there are plenty of lines that allow this including Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Carnival. The little things that made cruising special on Norwegian are slowly being eliminated. I have seen it during the last 3 cruises on NCL (EPIC, Jewel and Sky). I am heading back to Royal Caribbean and Holland America, where many of the special things have not been eliminated. I also remember a gal.of gas was 25 cents and a case of beer was $3.99:rolleyes: Things change!

MATHA531 Posted November 20, 2011 #217 Share Posted November 20, 2011 Looks like the same shrimp I got at Cagneys. Agree with Dr Jack. Looks delicious, I'll take 2 please But there are only 3....I would hope for at least 5! (BTW reminds me of my first cruise only about 1.5 years ago on HAL. They had in the MDR jumbo shrimp cocktail and lobster tails which were b oth very good. After dinner, I was still hungry and went up to the buffet. Guess what I found. Same shrimp cocktails (had 2 more) and same lobster tails (had another)....in reading through this thread and having taken a later cruise on HAL and a cruise of NCL (Epic), that wasn't the case either time. Our cruise on the Epic never had lobster tails in the MDR's nor as I remember jumbo shrimp cocktails and most assuredly not at the buffet. Whether that is simply the way they do it on NCL or part of the cutbacks I really don't know.
che5904 Posted November 20, 2011 #218 Share Posted November 20, 2011 But there are only 3....I would hope for at least 5! Since you can order more than one appetizer at the specialty restaurants. Order 2 shrimp cocktails then you'll get 6 shrimp. Problem solved.

Beaver1975 Posted November 20, 2011 #221 Share Posted November 20, 2011 If NCL was really cutting back as much as some have posted, they would restrict you to only one !! Great observation. I think the cutbacks are more reducing of waste as compared to pure cost cutting. How many people observed half empty glasses of champagne laying around on embarkation day and how many people stated that they did not eat the "pillow" mints anyway? How many other observations of waste can we talk about, trays of midnight room service food sitting in the hallway mostly uneaten?
Grandprix Posted November 20, 2011 #222 Share Posted November 20, 2011 Pssst. You forgot about the environmentalists that won't let us drill our own huge supply of oil. The most effective lobbiests belong to energy industries. If there was ten gallons of oil below the White House, an oil rig would be on the lawn. NvCruisers Posted November 20, 2011 #224 Share Posted November 20, 2011 I firmly believe that all smoking, cigar, cigarette and pipe as well as any illegal substance, should be totally banned from all cruise ships. I don't smoke and never have, so I find it rather offensive to go through the casino which reeks of smoke. It also makes it rather unpleasant to sit on your balcony when your neighbour is busily puffing away and blowing their smoke into my area!! If cruise lines pay attention here, I'll give 100% of my business to the one that totally bans all tobacco products on board! For those that do smoke please be considerate of those who don't! Not all of us are haters, but might have health problems that smoke endangers. Some day you might need the same consideration!

There is no way that the tree hugging lobby wields more power in DC than the oil companies. Follow the money.
