What's the deal with Johnny Rockets?

I speak from an Asian perspective.

 

I've never tried Johnny Rockets. The RCI ships I've sailed on didn't have them. But I'm going on the Voyager next year and I think Johnny Rockets is an option.

 

Question - what's the draw? I thought burgers are often available at various places, including windjammer.

 

Why is Johnny Rockets so successful? (Or just an American thing?)

they are (0ver priced and over dressed)burgers,nothing more. and for my personal taste not that good to begin with. same with red robin, or even cheeburger cheeburger.

 

now Five Guys.. THAT's a burger....

 

I am told that the shakes are worth the price though....

After 26 cruises, we finally tried Johnny Rockett's on our last cruise. We were just ready for something different besides going to the Windjammer, etc. Yes, they typically always have burgers/fries available in the Windjammer, and they are good. I did enjoy Johnny Rockett's, too, though. The burgers were HOT and fresh, they bring you hot fries and onion rings, etc. There are many varieties of burgers and other sandwiches that you can order. For 5 bucks, it's not bad. But, if you're happy with the Windjammer burgers (which aren't as fresh, but okay), then that's fine, too. But for the small price, I would give Johnny Rockett's another visit on my next cruise.....

I say - to each their own.... give it a TRY if you like burgers.... as we all know tastes are going to be all over the board... as I would have a Red Robin or a Brown Bag Burger before I will EVER have a five guys again (talk about over priced LOL)

There is too much free food on the ship.

Our TA through in free Johnny R. on our next cruise so we will go.

We use the casino so have used their points in the past to go.

Also on the Oasis, they have a free breakfast.

 

It normally costs $4.95 for all you can eat. Drinks are extra.

As soon as you sit done they put a plate of french fries & fried onion rings in front of you. These are constantly replenished. They have assorted burgers, chicken sandwiches & grilled cheese. Dessert is included.

Peridically the waiters stop and dance. It is just kind of a fun thing to do. I would do it at lunch....never give up a cruise dinner for it.

No one has mentioned that the staff is quite entertaining.

 

Sometimes you need some good artery blockage, and JR's fits the bill.

We always eat one meal at Johnny Rockets when we are on the Voyager. First of all the nearest Johnny Rockets to us is over 400 miles away. And , second we grew up in the late 60s so it brings back nice memories of the malt shops, sock hops etc.

 

$4.95 is well worth it to us and since we always buy the Soda Card the cokes at Johnny Rockets do not cost us any more money.

They used to give you a free pass in your coupon book. Those ended a few years ago, along with a lot of other things.:mad:

JR's is just like every other alternative dining spot on the ship. For those that want something different than the burger offered in the WJ which by the way is horrible, JR's is a nice change. Very few times have I experienced a crowd. The bugers, rings and fries are hot and fresh. I for one like it.

I like the atmosphere - the cute 50s-style diner with the dancing waitors.

 

The $4.95 cover charge includes whatever you want to eat - hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, etc. You can get as much as you want.

 

Drinks are not included. You can get sodas with your Coke card or pay out of pocket. And milkshakes are an additional cost.

 

However, you can go into the restaurant and tell them you just want milkshakes, and they'll bring you French fries or onion rings and you won't be charged the $4.95 cover charge - just the cost of the milkshakes.

 

The C&A coupon books have 2 for 1 milkshake coupons in them.

And when they bring your fries, they make a smily face with the ketchup!:D

 

We always visit JR on board. We have a few here locally that we never go to, so go figure. Don't like to pay for it off the ship. But on board, $5 is a reasonable amount for us to get the food and the dancing waiters. And they have pretty good chili burgers too.

And just for contrast... I can't stand Five Guys burgers. Way overpriced and not that great. Cheeburger Cheeburger is my favorite (and has excellent shakes), Red Robin comes in next. Johnny Rocket's still doesn't do anything for me though.

Haven't been yet, but some one mentioned they were high priced and then others said it's $4.95 for all but drinks and then you eat as much as you want? That is as low priced of a burger joint as I've ever heard of these days. I'd gladly eat at that price daily...

From my understanding, Johnny Rockets is cooked to order and brought out fresh! No disgusting pools of grease and sitting under heat lamps!

 

You cant even have a burger meal at McDonalds for 4.95.

 

Im looking forward to trying Johnny Rockets mostly for the atmosphere and the milkshakes :)

Correct. I know that many were unhappy when RCI added the surcharge. RCI stated that it was for crowd control which I believe due to the stories on this very board about the long waits to eat there and the place becoming a hang out for teens. (It's right next to the teen clubs on the Voyager and Freedom class). Of course I also think that they added the surcharge to make more money.:) By the way, go to a local JR's landside and see what that meal will cost you. :eek:

Johnny Rockets is a fun experience on board. The best part is the cheerfulness of the staff, and the "malt shop" atmosphere.

 

DH loves the shakes and onion rings. Without comparing it to any other eatery, we find the burgers to be fresh and tasty. We don't eat there on every cruise, but when we do, we enjoy it very much.

I live within walking distance of JRs, Cheeburger Cheeburger and 5 Guys. I rarely go to any of them, but when I do it is usually JRs. I love their onion rings. When I'm on a ship with a JRs I usually eat lunch there once, but will only go on a port day when the MDR is closed. I don't like the Windjammer and JRs is a good way to avoid eating there. Also, no wait for a table on port days. I love being able to get basket after basket of onion rings without having to pay each time. Their Oreo cookie sundaes are also terrific, and no extra charge.

I love Johnny Rockets; if you are Crown and Anchor member there is a coupon in the booklet for buy one and get one milk shake (they are great). I will eat lunch at least once on my cruise. I had a boardwalk balcony and enjoyed watching the entertainment from the wait staff.

I love their shakes & it's the only place I can get a vanilla coke but I'm not crazy about their onion rings or burgers. Never had dessert there but I've decided next cruise I'm going to pass on the onion rings, skip the burger & go straight to dessert.

 

DH loves their grilled cheese..................
