"Cancel for any reason" trip insurance

I'm looking at booking a cruise in November and would need to purchase trip insurance that includes the "Cancel for any reason" clause, just in case my son's high school football team makes it to to the state playoffs. I've done a little research on the internet but haven't found any companies that offer a 100% refund no matter when you cancel.

Does anyone have experience with purchasing this type of insurance and can you tell me which companies you've used that allow a 100% refund.

Thanks!

alot of the policy's say "cancel for any reason" but......you really have to read the fine print. Good site to check and compare would be insuremytrip.com

There is also the option of future cruise credit depending on the 1) cruiseline and 2) cruise fare you book.

Travelguard offers the Cancel for any reason BUT it has to be purchased within 14 days of booking the cruise .... This timeline is crucial...

ALSO different insurance companies have different timelines,

AND you arent given a total 100% refund of that purchase ( cruise )

CCL's insurance has a cancel for any reason clause, but it is a 75% future cruise credit. The details should be on their website. You'd have to check to see what is the latest it can be added. I think it is by final payment, but not sure.

We for the last several years have purchased cancel for any reason insurance.

We collected twice because our CAT was seriously ill and we had to cancel 3 trips. One was a back to back arrangement involving an European escorted land tour followed by an European river cruise. The other was an ocean cruise.

The other two times involved our medical issues.

We purchased them from either the cruise line or the escorted tour company via our local TA.

Total refunds were in excess of $25,000.

Most people are surprised to hear that we were refunded because of our CAT's illness.

I've researched it to, and I posted to the insurance board (and was unfortunately flamed), and unfortunately, it seems that there is no insurance to get a 100% refund for cancel for any reason. I'm still angry about the fact that I was flamed for asking about it.

Steamboatin, That was so sweet and caring about canceling for your ill cat. My dog got seriously ill one day before my cruise and I took her to

the Vet. who charged me alot of money. I had not bought insurance

so I was willing to lose my $1,000. cruise just in case my doggie was

going to die. But she got better on the day I was leaving for my cruise.

She recovered by giving her Gerbers baby chicken food mixed with rice every day. She is okay now. She got seriously ill last month.

Next time I plan to buy the "cancel for any reason insurance".

Should I buy it from the cruiselines or other?

Sorry you were flamed for asking an intelligent question.

Thank you. I think the problem is that Cruise Critic (understandably so) attracts people who love cruises so much that they don't understand that maybe not all of the cruise lines' policies are just, nor do they understand that sometimes real life gets in the way of cruising. Unfortunately, that insurance board seems to be moderated by such a person. The Carnival board (this board) is much better.

Typically, a cancel for any reason policy will refund between 80-90% of your cruise price, but not 100%.

Sorry you were flamed for asking an intelligent question.

I guess some posts were deleted because I don't see any flames.

OP, the big difference between the cruise line's insurance and private insurance is the cruise line will give you a credit for a future cruise where a private company will give you cash. I don't believe that I've seen one above 75%.

I was referring to a thread on the Insurance board, not this one. And yes, the moderator did delete some of the flames, along with just about anything she didn't agree with, including some of my posts.
