NewbieCrsr Posted January 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Anyone ever taken a flight this early out of San Juan after getting off of AOTS? Is it possible?
wrp96 Posted January 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Not possible. You'll be lucky to be getting off the ship by then.
Rare silentbob007 Posted January 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I would not do it ... not only do you have to get off the ship, you have to go through agricultural inspection at the airport, check-in, make it through security, and get to your gate. If you are checking bags, they'd need to be checked 7:30-8 minimum ... no way that would happen.

Cruzin-K Posted January 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2012 On my last cruise out of San Juan I made it off the ship in record time, hopped in a cab and was at the airport in 20 minutes. No line to speak of at agriculture and with my American Airlines status I checked in quickly and headed to the gate. I got to the gate just before 9am (for a noon flight ). This was with EVERYTHING going perfectly smooth. No way in heck will you make an 8:30 flight
Isa65 Posted January 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I think deep down you know the answer to this question yourself... Look for a flight that leaves noon or later and you won't be stressing your entire cruise over debarkation day.
Rare Tak8 Posted January 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I've done 5 cruises from San Juan. I have never been to the airport by 8:30.
bigeagle12 Posted January 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 14, 2012 We always make an 8:30am flight or earlier .. but it is a day or two after the cruise since we like to spend a day or two in SJ pre and post cruise. :D No way you will make it the day you disembark. redcrown Posted January 14, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Sailed out of SJ 7 times and the earliest I got to the airport was 9ish. 8:30 is not going to happen
Loves_Dogs Posted January 14, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2012 After 2 cruises out of San Juan I can almost certainly guarantee that you will not make an 8:30 flight. Even IF you get off the ship early, that 2 lane road leading to the cruise terminal will be grid-locked up and takes forever to get out of there and onto a main road. And you dont even want to know about the airport. Lets just say you better allow yourself some time. Love those cruises out of San Juan but to use a phrase I tell my son, you had better 'pack your patience' to cruise out of that port. You are going to need it. NewbieCrsr Posted January 14, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks everyone! I was 99% sure it was impossible but the earlier flight was $100 cheaper so I just wanted to ask :)
apk1389 Posted January 15, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 15, 2012 I mean if you could find a way it is possible.. we would all love to find some fantastic secret. Sailed out of SJU twice. Based on my comfort level the earliest flight i would even consider booking is 10:30. We did 10:45 and with no hiccups and things moving at standards paces we got to the gate at 10:10. just my own two cents
hancogran Posted January 15, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 15, 2012 We've sailed from San Juan three times, and there's no way you'd make a flight at that time. I'd never book anything before 1:00 p.m. just because I need that peace of mind to enjoy my cruise. Who wants to spoil it by stressing out over whether you'll make an early flight or not! :D
Ramblin Wreck Cruiser Posted January 15, 2012 #15 Share Posted January 15, 2012 We have sailed out of San Juan several times and had never attempted to make an early flight until last November. We had tickets to a football game that Saturday that we didn't want to miss and decided to risk it. We easily made a 9:45 flight. I think we were at the airport by 8:30. After reading all these comments, though, I realize that we were lucky. Next time, we'll either skip the game or, better yet, we won't book during football season :p
margaret10987 Posted January 15, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 15, 2012 We were on the Adventure last April and could not get off the ship until 11:30 am. Problem with customs.
NewbieCrsr Posted January 18, 2012 Author #17 Share Posted January 18, 2012 For those of you that made it to the airport by 9, did you do self-debarkation?
Langley Cruisers Posted January 18, 2012 #18 Share Posted January 18, 2012 For those of you that made it to the airport by 9, did you do self-debarkation? Oh my goodness, are you still considering it???
phoenix1181 Posted January 18, 2012 #19 Share Posted January 18, 2012 At Logan, luggage must be checked at least an hour before flight time & I imagine that's pretty standard. If you're going to try for that flight, I strongly suggest carry on luggage only................
NewbieCrsr Posted January 18, 2012 Author #20 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Oh my goodness, are you still considering it??? Not for 8:30 :) but maybe for 11am
time4u2go Posted January 18, 2012 #21 Share Posted January 18, 2012 8:30 flight from San Juan after AOTS? Anyone ever taken a flight this early out of San Juan after getting off of AOTS? Is it possible? 8:30 PM, you're probably OK. 8:30 AM, no way! ;)
redcrown Posted January 18, 2012 #22 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Not for 8:30 :) but maybe for 11am No we have never done self debarkation. However we could disembark whenever we choose to. We usually got off the ship around 8:15 to 8:30.

hancogran Posted January 18, 2012 #25 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Just me.. but I still would not be comfortable with an 11:00 a.m. flight from San Juan! We're sailing Serenade this Saturday from San Juan, and I booked our return flight for 2:30 p.m. Believe me, SJU can be a total zoo if there are two or three ships disembarking the same day. You've also got your agricultural inspection to go through. What if for some reason, you didn't get off the ship until 11:30? (as somebody previously mentioned). I'm sure if everything goes right, you would make it but it would just be too much stress for me worrying about that after a great cruise. Good luck! :)
