sucramfree13 Posted January 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Im booked in a Owner's suite on a Allure cruise in May of this year. I just looked on Royal's website and they are now completely sold out of OS rooms. But they still have 1 Royal loft suite( out of 1) 1 sky loft suite( out of 2) 15 Crown loft suites( out of 25) and 3 to 6 Aqua theater suites( out of 6) Now this is my first cruise with royal but even so, I would think I should be getting a upgrade call since OS suites are in such high demand right now. There are 3 people( including myself) in my stateroom. I did book through a travel agent though. should I tell her to try and put me on a list if they ever call her asking if I want a upgrade? macruisefan Posted January 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2012 If you look at sailing dates sooner, you won't find much availability at all. Is that because the suites ultimately sell? Or are they upgrading and selling more basic rooms? Hard to say. But with an Owners suite, I would be happy to stay where I am. Truth be told, I would be leary of a lot of the crown loft suites. I have no desire to ever sail in suites 1722-1738. I have no desire to sit on my balcony and stare at a basketball court!

Welcome to Cruise Critic. I'm curious whether you were told something by your travel agent that indicated that you are a good candidate for an upgrade. If so, they probably were at least stretching the truth a bit, perhaps to encourage a sale.

PLEIKU68 Posted January 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2012 This is a joke...right ? Why do you feel you are entitled to an upgrade, oh, that's right it's your first cruise and you must be part of the entitled generation.:eek:
Rare silentbob007 Posted January 19, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Free upgrades are few and far between. You can do the inventory check and math all day, but in all honesty, only the RCI revenue department makes this call. Generally, if you book or wait for an upgrade, it won't come. Think of it this way ... even if your logic is sound, what entitles you to an upgrade over everyone else also in an OS? Very good odds are always on ... you will get what you booked. Son, they usually upgrade the big rollers in the casino, important business partners, celebrities...given that you are 17, it's not very likely.

Mmm, IMHO, you think very highly of yourself. Why should you be getting an upgrade just because it's your first cruise? I'm sure there's folks in those other OS that are Diamond Plus or even pinnacle and they paid just as much as you did. Oh wait, you didn't pay..... And if someone should be getting an upgrade, it's your mom and dad, since they paid for you! Cindy

macruisefan Posted January 19, 2012 #17 Share Posted January 19, 2012 I think people are being unduly harsh towards to OP. I don't think he was trying to sound entitled when he said "I would think I should be getting an upgrade". He has already admitted this is his firsts cruise, as such, his experience is limited. But he shows his logic. By looking at availability, I can see how he reached this conclusion. I don't think it was said from a position of entitlement, but rather optimism and trying to make sense of what he knew. Having said that, I will tell the OP that I think it is highly unlikely you will get an upgrade for a couple reasons: upgrades tend to be very uncommon, and they may very well go to a more seasoned cruiser (I would imagine they might upgrade a Diamond or Diamond+ guest as a reward for their loyalty first). But it sure would be cool if you did get one, so here's hoping! Surprising to see so many people just assume the worst of the OP, seems like a bummer:confused:
Artemis908 Posted January 19, 2012 #18 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Agree with previous poster that I didn't read self-entitlement in his post and surprised a 17 year old is so well informed. Upgrades seem totally random to me. I've been on 6 cruises, 2 of which were with Royal Caribbean, and I've gotten one upgrade, which was my last cruise with Royal Caribbean. It was my husband's first cruise. We were upgraded from ocean view to balcony. I was so excited, I could barely contain myself. :P It totally spoiled us and after seeing the reserved seating the suite folks got and hearing about full dining room menu for room service (I am a room service junky), I knew I had to get a suite for my next cruise. Sometimes I wonder if they Royal Caribbean had this planned all along by upgrading us... lure me in so I will want to be spoiled on every cruise for now on! Langley Cruisers Posted January 19, 2012 #19 Share Posted January 19, 2012 There are numerous threads here about D+ members never having gotten an upgrade. Our friends cruised their first time on RCI and were upgraded to a GS. We were thrilled for them and they had a great time. We've never been upgraded and we are Emerald. No biggie, our time will come. :D
tcneal Posted January 19, 2012 #20 Share Posted January 19, 2012 I agree also. I didn't read anything wrong with the post. I think his logic was sound with just some limited knowledge. If the OSs are in high demand and they have a run of Crown Lofts left, they "might" upgrade some guests. The OP mistake is that I don't think the upgrade decisions follow any logic. You just have to read the posts here on who gets them and who doesn't. It's still a valid thought. And I don't think it matters if the OP is 17 or 77. CRUIS4ME Posted January 19, 2012 #21 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Had to laugh though when I read the question...they are already in a "suite"... If they upgrade the OP - would you be so kind to suggest they call me to upgrade me to your cabin? Would appreciate it (smile).
sucramfree13 Posted January 19, 2012 Author #22 Share Posted January 19, 2012 1. It may not seem like it but I'd be happy with anything. I haven't sailed in a suite since I was 7 on carnival. I'm happy with what I have. 2. D+ people calm down!!! Of course you all should be first but the fact is, occasionally people who are on their first or second sailing get an upgrade. It happens. That is why u said what are my chances. I'm not more special then anyone. The thing is I'm booked in a room that is looking like it is sellingeasier. sucramfree13 Posted January 19, 2012 Author #23 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Just about anyone no matter what room they booked or how many cruises they have been on is gonna be happy with a upgrade. I'm sure a person in a RS would be happy moving to a RL. Dosent mean he is ungrateful or unsatisfied with the room he booked.

sucramfree13 Posted January 19, 2012 Author #25 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Actually sweetie, as a parent of a son your age, if even HALF of what you have posted is even close to being true, I'm not laughing, I feel very sorry for you. No I'm talking about you laughing at how my two most recent threads have just be disasters!!!!!! I don't blame you for not believing me. It's the Internet after all! And before you were so skeptical of me you were a big help. For what it's worth,( and I know it's worth very little) I really wasn't lying or am lying now.
