mina Posted August 29, 2015 #653 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Where are the smoking sections on the Island Princess? I read in a recent review that there is churchills and an outdoor area on deck fourteen. Not sure where that outdoor area is though.

yardbird Posted August 30, 2015 #660 Share Posted August 30, 2015 I stopped smoking tobacco, but now I vape. I hesitate to call it an electronic cigarette because I've weaned myself completely off nicotine. So my vaping "juice" is no threat to anyone anymore. :) .... unless of course they don't like the smell of blueberries or strawberries and cream..... but I digress.... What I do, however, LOOKS LIKE smoking so... I try to respect the general smoking rules. It just irks me a bit that I have to do that because of what it LOOKS like I'm doing. Princess's web site says I can use my device in my cabin, but not on my balcony. Just..... weird. Because now I have to go to a "designated smoking area" to not smoke. :)
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted August 31, 2015 #661 Share Posted August 31, 2015 My husband has used a PV(personal vaporiser) on board Princess ships for over 3 years. Have any rules changed about vaping in staterooms? I ask as I have just booked a cruise and noted the smoking policy on the 'must read' section. As before, "smoking" is not allowed in staterooms & balconies, but does that include vapers / e-cig users?
Te Aroha Posted August 31, 2015 #662 Share Posted August 31, 2015 They are now restricted to the smoking areas and inside your stateroom, not on balconies.

ROCruiser Posted September 7, 2015 #664 Share Posted September 7, 2015 On Diamond Princess July 2015: "For the enjoyment of the public lounges and facilities, indoor areas onboard Diamond Princess are non-smoking. Smoking is only permitted in designated sections of the sports bar and nightclub. For those passengers who would like to enjoy a cigar or pipe, the Churchill's cigar lounge is located on Deck 6 forward. Smoking cigars or pipes outside of this lounge is not permitted. Outdoor smoking areas are clearly marked and are located on Deck 7 Starboardside. Aft of the last outside door only, on Deck 15 Portside Forward - designated tables by the Tradewinds Bar and on Deck 14 Portside Aft by the elevated section above the Terrace Pool. The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas onboard with the exception of designated slot machines where guests are permitted to smoke only while playing at those machines. All table games are non-smoking. The Casino will also have one or more non-smoking nights, depending on length of voyage. Smoking is not permitted in staterooms and balconies. Violations to this non-smoking policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurence which will be charged to the passenger's stateroom account. The use of electronic cigarettes is only allowed within the confines of the passenger's stateroom (excluding the balcony area) and within designated smoking areas." BMP57 Posted September 25, 2015 #667 Share Posted September 25, 2015 I am a smoker and I just returned from the Golden. There is smoking on Deck 15 above the Prego Pizzeria on the port side by the bar. This is ok, but I think it is a dumb place to put it since the kids club is right inside the door. You can smoke on the promenade deck (7) outside the aftmost doors near the Vista Lounge. While I appreciate an area to smoke, this is also not a great location for three reasons: 1: people trying to exercise and walk around the ship will be walking right through there, 2: there's no place to sit and 3: there is a vent in front of that door and a very putrid odor eminates from there most of the time. You can smoke in the Casino when it isn't formal night. My nose may be compromised, but my non-smoking wife walked through the port side of the Casino and was not offended at all. You can sometimes smoke in Skywalker's lounge. I don't know if there are rules, but if there are ashtray's out, then go ahead. The only nicer place to smoke is the Players Club bar located on deck 6 between the hallways that lead to the Princess Theater. Tables, TVs, bar, air purifiers and such. Not bad. My favorite smoking area is on Deck 15 aft on the Grand Princess behind the One5 lounge. Covered, comfortable, wicker chairs and couches, tables, service and at the back of the ship where it doesn't bother others. I wish they would do this on all of their ships - makes sense to me. Beware, no matter where you smoke there will be some hand waving, face scrunching, fake coughing, rude comment making person who is sure to make sure you know that they disapprove of your choices. Can you smoke cigars on Deck 15 Aft of the Grand? Or is it restricted to the Cigar lounge?
Working 2 Cruise Posted September 25, 2015 #668 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Can you smoke cigars on Deck 15 Aft of the Grand? Or is it restricted to the Cigar lounge? No cigar smoking anywhere but in the cigar lounge. So, no cigars permitted outside.

Steelers36 Posted October 8, 2015 #670 Share Posted October 8, 2015 I'm liking this change posted for Diamond and I hope it applies to ALL ships now: The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas onboard with the exception of designated slot machines where guests are permitted to smoke only while playing at those machines. All table games are non-smoking. Now that cuts down a lot on where smoking could occur in the casino. Maybe one day it will be gone completely. There isn't enough enforcement of people just coming in to smoke and not play.

UandMe4Ever Posted October 8, 2015 #672 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Hi, saw many cigar smokers on IP, upstairs and outside. In fact, there were at least 2 of them and no one said anything, just brought them an ashtray. This was just this past year.

Rare Smmessineo Posted October 10, 2015 #674 Share Posted October 10, 2015 In regards to cigar smoking ..... " The way I read the rules, INDOOR cigar and pipe smoking is limited to Churchill's. However, the outdoor areas are open to all smokers. Whatever the case, they need to clarify how this is written. If it also isn't allowed outside , the sentence about cigar limitations should be at the end, after the outdoor smoking area description. I don't get why they are further limited , anyway. I think cigars and pipes should be allowed wherever cigarette smoking is allowed. Especially outside , where the (specious) argument of cigars creating too smoky an environment in a closed area doesn't apply.

There isn't enough enforcement of people just coming in to smoke and not play. On our short cruise from Vancouver BC to SF on the Grand in September it didn't really help much. There was a large contingent of gamblers/smokers who seemed to be in the casino from morning til night and the promised "at least one non-smoking evening in the casino" never materialized. There were a couple of times where the smoke in the passenger services area outside the casino was also very heavy. I look forward to the day when Princess bans it completely from the casino because I just think that the current HVAC system is inadequate to remove the second hand smoke from inside areas. I guess the bright side is I spent way less time in the casino and thus came home with a lot more money than I would have!
