Seattle Recommendations

With that much time, you could probably squeeze in visits to Pike Place Market and the Space Needle. Other alternatives might include a Ride the Ducks tour, or the underground tour at Pioneer Square, or for something more relaxing, a ferry ride across the sound and back to Bainbridge Island, or Bremerton.

The Market seems to be #1 on any visitor's list. If your visit is pre-cruise, visit the Klondike Goldrush museum (free) in Pioneer Square to get into an 'Alaska state of mind'. You'll find some ideas in the city's web site. Depends on your interests .... Museum of Flight, tour the Boeing plant, Science Center.

There's a free bus #99 that moves between the Market, waterfront, Pioneer Square. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/cftemplates/show_map.cfm?BUS_ROUTE=099&DAY_NAV=WSU

While in Seattle we always visit Pikes Market -- we never tire of wandering through the stalls. We've also taken the underground tour at Pioneer Square and thought it was a hoot. The Seattle Aquarium is nice. Seattle has a great art museum which is very close to Pike's Market. And we always check the schedule of the Seattle Symphony.

We also stayed at the Warwick after our Alaska cruise. We walked everywhere. . .from there. Pikes Market is a must. We also walked to the Space Needle. If you are going to Pioneer Square, take the Underground Tour, it is a must. Okay, we were there three days. . .:)another fun thing is the Duck Tour, you pick it up right near the space needle, if you are a fan of Sleepless in Seattle, you have to do this to see the house.

when we have out of town guests, we always visit the Market first, then walk down to the waterfront and grab fish'chips at Ivars. Usually we take a ferry ride to Bremerton. It's a different experience for most people and inexpensive; $7 RT, 1 hr each way. We just stay on and ride it back. Fantastic view of the Seattle skyline. Watch for bald eagles as you pass West Seattle.

If salmon are running the Ballard Locks are fun and interesting.

Please remember that the market is named after the street..not mr. pike...

so it is pike place market

I think the ferry ride and walk along the waterfront..along with klondike museum are great. ivars is an old fav...or for something different, go over to the university museums or arboretum, or take a bus down to madison park and go swimming in lake washington (summer only) at the public beach--neighborhood has great little places to eat.

go shopping at REI---check out the water feature and climbing wall.

This spring the Seattle Art Museum has a Gauguin exhibit that looks great, and I'm heading up to see it next month. This summer there will be a King Tut exhibit at the Pacific Science Center -- I understand it is a different one than the one that was touring the US several years ago.
