NCL Reality Show

As a first time cruiser not taking my first voyage until next June (maybe this Dec if I can't wait), I will be watching to just catch glimpses of the ship.

I hunted down old episodes of the Love Boat just to get the feeling of life on a cruise ship.

I do dislike the reality showes based on match-making (Bachelor/ette) because they are so fake. Some are scripted and when you are given free cruises, excursions, helicopter and private jet flights - and a film crew to protect you from the creeps - you just can't judge someone properly!

Was on the Peal in November of 2011. They were filming something during our week. They had a few areas of the ship closed at different times. I thought at the time, that they were filming another NCL documentary. I guess not!

To me, it cheapens the NCL brand, to be doing a singles reality show. :(

Not NCL's brightest idea.

What do you tell your little ones who MIGHT see something questionable. Mommy? Why are they _______ (fill in the blank) each other like that with a cameraman taking their pictures.

Or how about you want to go to a restaurant or bar to eat or hang out but oops...can't do that because it is "reserved" for the camera crew and the love birds.

I agree with the poster who said that they come on the cruise to relax and get away from the everyday stuff. That includes reality tv shows.

I have to agree, I know some say they were on a ship and didn't know it was taking place, now makes sense but my guess is if this actually takes off, it will get worse. I surely, can only hope as someone else mentioned that they notify people if they will be filming on your cruise because I for one would make sure I switched.

With NCL being a kid friendly cruise line with the Nickelodeon themed cruises it does send a mixed message doing a reality show like based on their cruise line being a Love Boat.

TBH I think that's why a lot of people go on cruises in the first place whether they're attached on not. I'd assume that show will definitely encourage a more "single & ready to mingle" atmosphere on NCL ships which as an oft solo traveler I normally try to avoid. However I'm probably in the minority on that.

What exactly do you think the little ones might see? They were filming them doing normal cruise activities not shooting porn in the Bliss Lounge.

Why so much negativity ??? You haven't seen what they filmed, and if it bothered the people who were on the ships when it was filmed, it would have been posted long ago !!!

I suppose now every time the ships photogs set up to take pics there will be a line up at the service desk with everybody wanting money back !!!

I agree. Plenty of time to pan it or praise it after it airs. It's just possible it may do for NCL what Love Boat did for Princess?

Well SW I can explain mine (not anyone elses).

After reading the promotion for it from NCL themselves on their FB, it reads like a match making show (batchelor style). As I stated above that with the classiness of new Breakaway and the push for family cruising with the new kids club. I really don't think promoting a cruise ship as a place to "hook up" really does much for their image and makes them look cheap.

I actually never said I would be pushing for money back and wouldn't. I don't bleed until I'm shot, so if they filmed more shows and it did affect my cruise I would cross that bridge if it happened. According to NCL's FB page all the filming is done so it shouldn't bother anyone's future cruise.

I'm curious about one thing. Everybody seems to be assuming Bachelor-style dating (hot-tub make-out sessions, etc.) Based on everything I've read so far, it could be widows & widowers looking for 2nd love. They may go on dinner dates, and share shore excursions (Amazing Race shows how shared travel can either destroy or enrich a relationship).

Presumably if they have a full season, that's max 26 episodes. They can probably film 4 episodes per day... so....that's about 1.5 weeks of filming....PER YEAR.

As long as you don't mean "get bought by Carnival Corp." then I hope so.

You're assuming way too much here. The descriptions say that contestants will date, etc....and be set up by "telegenic hosts". There's a very key missing descriptor: "telegenic contestants"!!!

LOL well it wouldn't be the first time I've "assumed" more than I should have did exactly what the word says ;) :D

It's a wait and see, I guess, but from what I'm reading that's what I'm getting. Not that I think, like some, that it will be done distastefully (I have no idea, hate those type of realitiy shows). I just think promoting the old thought of a cruise ship is where you meet your true love is going against every other image they are trying to portray.

I cannot believe all the negative comments about this show.

As a single, 50-something year old woman (and a diehard romantic), the idea of a matchmaking cruise intrigues me and I will definitely watch.

It would be awesome to meet a man my age who loves cruising and sail into the sunset aboard an NCL ship:). A girl can dream!

I would hope that they would post the filming schedule so that those booking can make an informed choice as to whether they want to sail or not while filming is underway.

What part of "It has already been filmed" don't you understand? It has been mentioned numerous times in this and the other thread about this show.
