What's that called???

My Travel Agent had advised us that the Princess ships in San Pedro offer a transfer/luggage service back to LAX and that this can only be booked once upon the ship towards the end of the cruise. Does anyone know anything about this service? We are leaving on the Sapphire Princess April 14th and would like to have some more information on this service. The service sounds too good to be true. How awesome would it be not to have to worry about your luggage from the time you disembark the ship until the time you arrive back to your hometown?? I thought I had read somewhere that this service was discountinued, however, I was not able to find that information again saying whether or not this service is still offered or that it has been discountinued. I have emailed my Travel Agent and she said she would look into it, but I haven't heard back from her.

Any information would be greatly appreciated... just trying to get all our ducks in a row before we leave next week. :)

It's called EZ Check, but I've recently read posts that say it's no longer available from San Pedro. I am sad about that as I love the service. I always use it whenever offered. You'll find several threads about EZ Check on here. It is offered in some ports and not others.

It's called EZ-Check. It depends on whether or not your airline participates. If they do, all you need do is fill out a form, which they will supply toward the end of your cruise, and take it down to Passenger Services. I believe they charge $20 per person and any luggage fees the carrier charges, which will show up on your onboard account when you settle up your charges. You put your bags out the night before as usual, they come pick it up and *poof* your bags show up at your home airport. Couldn't be easier!

I've thought about using it but the last couple trips, we have needed to rearrange a few things in our bags because of being overweight on one. The extra fees are way overpriced in my opinion. What happens if you do have an overweight bag?

If they do offer EZ Check in San Pedro, not only do you receive your airline luggage tags to put on before setting them out the night before, your boarding pass is also printed out. When you arrive at the airport, all you have to do is head for Security.

It's available only for certain airlines that participate and your flight must be after a certain time. Also, your final destination must be in the US. It's offered in FLL but not sure if it's available in San Pedro. It's not available in San Francisco.

Thanks everyone for the information. Sounds like we will need to check in to this once we board the Sapphire Princess to see if EZ Check is something they offer. Based on other threads, doesn't sound promising. This is our 1st cruise out of state where we needed airfare. We live in Florida and tend to cruise from Florida ports for the mear convenience of being able to drive to and from the port and don't have to worry about how many bags we are bringing with us or the weight of the baggage. We are flying on Southwest since they offer the first 2 bags for free. Just trying to make this as easy as possible for us. :D

We purchased Princess transfers for when we got off our Coral Princess Alaskan cruisetour. We had a transfer to the Vancouver airport. Well, we almost missed the plane. We had to do a dead run through the airport- our flight was already loading and we were the last ones on, it was lucky that they didn't give our seats away-they didn't factor in 2 customs- Canadian and US and airport security. It was lucky that when the bus driver offered to give us all a tour of Vancouver that we all said no. I make my own arrangements now.

This is exactly why we don't use the service... what happens if you have an overweight bag and want to rearrange so you are not charged?

We bring a luggage scale with us and check our luggage before putting it out. Have to give the hubby the credit for thinking of that one.

EZ Check is the best! We walked right by everyone in line checking their bags and went right to the gate.

Is it offered from LAX?

Form everything I have read, I don't believe so, however, I am not 100% for sure. I guess I will be finding out next week since we sail out of LAX next Saturday.

I have used it in San Pedro (to LAX) in the past, but I keep reading that they discontinued it there. Please come back and let us know your experience. I'm sailing in November and would love to have it. It's some of the best money I spend on a cruise.

I never thought to much about the waiting in line at the airport to check bags until you said this. I could see this being really nice in ports that have many cruise ships in one day. On our last cruise we had disembarkation in Ft. Lauderdale. There were at least 7 cruise ships there and 2 of those ships were Allure of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas -> about 10,000 people from these ships if they were full!

If I'm reading all this correctly, with EZCheck you do not have to claim your bags at the cruise terminal - Princess takes care of getting them checked into your airline.

How does your luggage get through customs?

I thought your luggage needed to accompany you through the Customs and Immigration check at the cruise terminal...

There have been occasions in the past (mainly at Port Everglades) when passengers had to identify their bags on shore, bring them through customs, and then hand them over to Princess.

These days it is more likely that some people will be selected at random for a customs inspection.

Of course, the luggage may still get subjected to dog sniffing and, if the dog suspects something, the passenger will be notified to deal with the situation.

They do spot check a few of the EZ Check luggage pieces. Hope that it's you!!

It happened to us. When you are leaving the ship your card buzzes when they scan it. They escort you down to customs and you skip ahead of everyone and go to a special room where they look through your bags. It was painless and fast and we skipped ahead of hundreds of people and exited the terminal!! It was great.
