caribill Posted April 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Although there are no on demand movies, there are movies scheduled on several of the channels on the TV in your cabin 24 hours a day. No charge to watch them.
Pam in CA Posted April 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Here is the channel line-up from the Sapphire Princess last year, which is fairly typical on Princess ships. The news and information-type channels are not always available. Sometimes, different news channels are available. For instance, on my Star Princess cruise last month, Fox News was available although it usually isn't. These channels are available in all cabins regardless of cabin type. A mini-suite is not really a suite and has no amenities other than a glass of sparkling wine at sailaway. Princess channel -- 21 -- highlights sipboard features, onboard services and activities. Sapphire channel -- 22 -- TV shows and National Geographic specials. Movie channel -- 23 -- A variety of recent, popular motion pictures Discovery channel -- 24 -- Produced especially for Princess Cruises, highlighting History, Travel, Technology, Sports, Nature, Science, Cuisine and specials. (Essentially a mixture of popular Discovery Channel programming.) TNT -- 25 ESPN -- 26 CNN -- 27 Turner Classic Movies -- 28 CNN Headline News -- 29 Family Channel -- 30 -- movies for the whole family Cartoon Network / Boomerang -- 31 & 32 Port channel -- 33 -- Programming to help you enjoy your time ashore, including rebroadcasts of port talks and shopping information Voyage channel -- 34 -- Reports from the bridge, itinerary tracking, weather data, etc. along with easy listening music. Webcam & PA Announcements - 35 -- Views from the Bridge and PA announcements, classical music when announcements not being made Reflections Souvenir Video -- 36 -- Highlights of the video recording of your voyage, essentially a sales pitch to buy the DVD but sometimes fun to watch. The Art channel -- 37 - Princess World of Fine Arts Discover Shopping & Amenities -- 38 -- shopping opportunities sales pitches Romance channel -- 39 -- Classic romantic movies (many of which are pretty darned good.) Casino channel -- 40 -- The Casino, never watched it. Leonard Maltin Movie Channel -- 41 -- A selection of classic and contemporary movies BBC World -- 42 Edited April 27, 2012 by Pam in CA
Working 2 Cruise Posted April 28, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2012 No on-demand movies, but there are quite a few choices, including new movies. Much better selection than on Carnival. The Sapphire is a beautiful ship. Enjoy!
1 HappyCruiser Posted April 28, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2012 There are very few movies offered that haven hit the DVD market & although they are shown on the cabin TV we never seem to be able to watch a complete movie from start to end. Either we have somewhere to go or we usually fall asleep before the end of the movie. :p

sciteach11 Posted August 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I was search through boards to find out if the Ruby Princess has on-demand movies on the stateroom tvs, and this is the thread I found. I see that it is from 2012. Does anyone know if the Ruby tv options have been updated since then to include on demand movies? Or do you have any other info about tv watching options? Thanks! waltd Posted August 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) If you were cruising on the two new ships Regal and Royal I believe they do have on demand movies but other then those two ships the information provided is still pretty much the same. Thanks for the quick response! From what I read those two ships seem to have everything... I'll have to book one of them next time! This is only our second cruise, so I guess it's good to leave some treats for future voyages. :)

Currently no on-demand movies on any ships except the Regal and the Royal. Ask the cabin steward on the Ruby for a TV guild if you don't find one in your cabin. Currently only the Regal and the Royal.
katisdale Posted August 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 21, 2016 We just got off the Sun Princess, one of the Australia based ships, on August 9. It does have on-demand movies. There was a large selection of movies, both new and classic.
IECalCruiser Posted August 21, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Don't full suites have free on-demand movies? :confused:On ships other than the Royal and Regal, full suites have a DVD player and a wide choice of movies. You ask your steward to bring you the movies you want. Sent from my iPad using Forums Edited August 21, 2016 by IECalCruiser

Correct. Currently only the Regal and the Royal. It looks like the response needs to be updated as the next post stated that there was on demand programming on the Sun which I had not heard before and I believe on demand programming was added to the Sapphire before deployment in Asia. We were on board her just before then and they were running new cabling throughout the ship.
