Carnival changed Nassau itinerary BIG TIME

I know that you're trying to help but when people get on here and point to that whenever someone has a valid complaint about the cruiseline changing the ports it chaps my bottom. To me it's like buying a plane ticket to new york and the captain dropping you off in Seattle. C'est la vie right?

I think you're missing mjmiller's reason for posting that. They were just showing how to cancel if it does happen. Not that the cruise line has the ability to do it.

My boss is on the sensation right now, and received the notice of no over night two days before departure. He was very upset and wanted to cancel. When carnival was called, he was told could not cancel and get full refund (as per some previous posts stated, and was with in the 24 hour notice mark) because the just changed the times and not the itinerary and since carnival still planned on going to nassau, did not qualify for full refund.

(can't open that casino if the ship is sitting in port)...

I'm just sayin' ;)

Yes they can. They have made arrangements to keep the casino open when the ship overnights in Nassau.:D

Nassau insn't known for being particularly safe after dark. There's also been a strike going on with port workers I believe?

But with that said, shorter port times lets the ship sail at a slower speed to the next port saving on fuel.

That would be true if they had any distance to make, but getting from Nassau back to Florida is a shirt trip that they could make in 4 - 5 hours if needed. They have been doing the slow crawl on those legs for years. In fact leaving Nassau early is going to cost them more in fuel because they are going to sail in circles for 8 - 10 extra hours.

it depends on the port;)

I believe the ship is registered in the Bahamas, and that allows it to keep the casino open.

Not 100% sure, but I was told that when we were considering booking this cruise a couple yrs ago.

Actually they open the casino at 7 pm on the sensation while docked overnight in Nassau. So that can't be the case.

That could be because the ship is registered in the Bahamas?

Or it could also be that when the ship leaves port everyone is onboard potentially spending money over on land.... You always have to follow the money to figure out the reasoning. :)

Personally, I'd prefer to be at sea or anywhere else than Nassah, not my favorite port, but that me.

The cruise lines pull this with us because they figure they have us and we won't complain or we won't change our plans. I'm well aware of the fact they can change their itinerary, but this is a drastic change for no reason. No storm, no public unrest, no good reason. I personally am complaining. I'm trying to get a refund and book on Royal which at least has 15 hours in Nassau. The Sensation is not a large ship. So much ship time is bound to get boring. As to port fees - My invoice said I paid at least some of those. Carnival is full of it and I won't be sailing with them again.

it wasnt the passengers that decided to not overnight in nassau, it was nassau itself. RCCL also cancelled some of the nassau port calls on some ships. so good luck thinking other lines dont cancell or change. you appearantly didnt read the cruise contract. Im heading on the imagination in 2 weeks and are scheduled to overnight in nassau (as of now) but im not going to be a baby and whine and say "i'll never cruise carnival again" about it. i could careless if we sail at 7pm or at 7am...im on vacation and would rather spend more time on the ship. so go ahead and try another line, but just know, that ALL lines make changes.

Well, they did at any rate... ;) No telling if some change in that regard was part of the impetus behind this.

The 3 night Royal ship which also sails out of Pt. Canaveral manages an additional stop: Coco Cay. Coco Cay, being 50 miles north of Nassau is on the way home, whereas Half Moon Cay (Carnival's private island) is 100 miles SE of Nassau (wrong direction)! You are right though... even slower now, or it's circle time!

I agree....I'd rather be safe on the ship once the sun goes down....

A few years ago, we were at nassau (rci) until midnight and went to enjoy the party at senor Frogs (wild & fun party there!!)...but it was a pretty dodgy walk back to the ship...(about 11pm)...luckily, we joined up with another couple that was heading back to the ship too...

I'm one of the few people who like Nassau. I've been to Nassau a dozen times with ships leaving at various times. My favorite is when we leave Nassau at 10:00 pm. A day at the Sheridan and Wyndam and an evening spent at Senior Frogs watching as the other ships depart and leaving Senor Frogs around 9:00 headed back to our ship. Not once did I ever feel unsafe. But that's at the wharf and not in the city itself.

I'm very unhappy about leaving Nassau at 6:00 instead of 10:00 because my son's fiance is going on her first cruise with us and we've talked about how much fun we have in Nassau and what our day is like there and now she's not going to have that adventure. Well, she will but it's not the same when you have to be back on the ship by 5:00.

Will I continue to sail with Carnival. Oh heck to the yes! But I can still be unhappy and complain about them cutting our time in Nassau short.

there's a reason Michael Caine has a house right across from whee the ships dock.

we love nassau. those that don't must be walking the 2 blocks closest to the ship and getting back on board.

I like Nassau.....each time I go, I explore something new (been there 4x in the past 2 years)....but at 11pm? it's dark....not alot of people around...I just didnt feel 100% safe in that situation....

In January....we will be in Nassau til 10pm (maybe?)...and I do plan on going to Senor Frogs in the evening to enjoy the festivities...I'm just going to make sure we have 'group' of people to share the walk with....(safety first, that's all I'm saying)

i really hate it when people say "that's life" oh well, get over it blah blah blah. That's your choice. Maybe you do not care what ship, what port, how long in port you are but others do.

i spend numerous hours choosing my port of departure, ship, itinerary etc. based on numerous things. One thing I love is long days in ports. It gives me more time to enjoy the port of call.

I understand if it is out of the cruise lines control. Yes, things happen.

But when some of you people on these boards act so nasty because someone has a different opinion, well, it's sickening.

No, we should not just roll over and take it from the cruiselines! Just because they can doesn't mean it's right.

Maybe there in itself is what needs to be changed. Maybe we all should start standing up for our rights...like airline passengers did, and get a contract for passengers' rights. The cruise lines contract is ridiculously in their favor and they can do just about anything they want.

24 hours to cancel? sure, but they only notify you in 48 hours. Well, many people have already left by then for their cruise. The lines know that. It's crappy! We shouldn't take it!!!!!!!!!! I FOR ONE WILL NEVER JUST SAY OH WELL, THAT'S LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

And those of you with that attitude, just look at our poor country. Go ahead, stick your head in the sand, be the blind sheep that follow and allows whatever the big companies want to do.

Don't go blindly off the cliff. The cruiselines should be honored that we are their guests. It should not be the other way around. WE PAY THEM!

The least they could do is actually get there in the morning so you get a full day out of it. The Disney ships make that same trip and get there before 9am.

I've taken the 3 day sensation cruise 3 times and this change is yet another reason I'll never take it again

We are considering the Glory from Nofolk in Oct that shows the itinerary as 11:30am -10pm the next night. This is one of the reasons we are considering this cruise...

Does anyone know if this affects this sailing as well?

If the cruiseline ended in a different city than originally planned - then this would be an appropriate comment. Changing the number of hours - still at the same port listed - this totally doesn't apply. You're comparing apples to oranges here.

And yes - my earlier post was to indicate that cruisers DO have recourse. All they have to do is follow what is written in black and white. A little research can go a long ways.

Yep, the DCL ship leaves about an hour after Carnival Sensation, and then during the night gets in the "passing lane" and arrives about three hours in advance.

Also . . . for those who really want to still enjoy the overnight experience in Nassau on a 3-nt Carnival Cruise, there is still that itinerary on Carnival Imagination out of Miami. It's a Friday-Monday sailing (where Sensation's is Thursday-Sunday)

Appears that even Carnival is not foolish enough (yet) to adjust the itinerary of that 3-nt sailing where the single solitary port is a mere 160 nautical miles from the starting point. Shortening the Nassau stay on that one would be even more dramatic.

Thank you almost packed. You obviously think a lot like I do. The airline industry can no longer ignore the needs and money spent of their passengers, but the cruise lines continue to do so - because of people that bury their heads in the sand and say "oh well". Since my day in Nassau is now so incredibly short I've spent the past couple of hours trying to figure out what to do. Thought about the dolphin swim and Blue Lagoon, but I'm not sure there will be enough time due to the travel back and forth. If the cruise lines feel they HAVE to change the hours of their ports, they should at least be required to honor cancellations of passengers that are affected and who are already in the penalty phase of their trip reservation, without the penalty since its not the passengers that caused the change, it is the cruise line.

What was the reason they wouldnt let you cancel?

I thought you were allowed to cancel when they change the itinerary?

I beg to differ on your comment about airlines. I am flying to Fla in June for 5 days and my original Flight was a nonstop. The airline has since changed it to a Plane change in Atlantic City with only 38 minutes between flights.

I have sent e-mail to them and although they did respond they also sent me a carrier liability contract form. 15 paragraphs long.

So they are not listening that much. Oh they did give me an option of taking the nonstop LATER that night and losing almost a full day of vacation.

And I am a credit card holder with the airlines name on it. Makes No Difference and even though our government is getting involved in TOO MUCH I am beginningto believe either the FAA our someone else needs to start standing up to the airlines.
