Ykgorbie Posted May 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2012 We will be spending 4 to 5 nights in Miami pre-cruise this coming October. One of our pre-requisites is having a balcony. Would also prefer to be a little closer to the POM than to the airport. We are not renting a vehicle and are ok with taking a taxi or walking. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!:)
eandj Posted May 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Are you looking for a balcony overlooking beach? Or is the view not as important as the balcony itself? You'll need to head to Miami Beach and leave Miami for that.
Ykgorbie Posted May 20, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted May 20, 2012 I guess my "wants" in order of importance are: 1) Balcony 2) Walking distance to a couple of restaurants and/or stores 3) View from balcony
JohninDC Posted May 20, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2012 For a stay of 4-5 days you should skip downtown Miami and head to Miami Beach. ;) From South Beach or just to the north you are only a 10-15 minute/$15-20 cab ride from the port. www.Oyster.com does a great job with hotel reviews & details in South Beach - hotels there tend to be smaller and more expensive, but there is wonderful dining and nightlife (& a great beach) within walking distance of most places. Good luck! :)
elcuchio24 Posted May 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2012 The Raleigh is one of our favorites, if you can snag a decent price.
BlueHerons Posted May 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2012 A balcony hotel in South Beach will be very expensive. What is your price range? Agree to not stay downtown for that long. I would get a guide book on Miami and do a little research. I think you'll find your priorities will change a little. October is still summer in Miami. It doesn't cool off. eandj Posted May 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2012 You can google "hotels with balconies in Miami Beach/South Beach" and you'll see a list and description for them. I'd start there, maybe then head to tripadvisor.com to read recent reviews and then come back here with some possible options you are considering. There are some resident experts here that will help narrow your choices. Like Blue Herons says, if you have a big budget, balconies in the beach area are really pricey. Naming a $$$ limit would help the "experts" rec something that fits.

If you're willing to move up the beach a ways (and take cabs to South Beach when desired), balcony rooms can be more affordable.
purduemom1 Posted May 24, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2012 Just stayed at the Marriott Courtyard on Collins in Miami Beach. We paid $175. a night for 4 in the room Had a great balcony room with 2 queens and frig. Balcony overlooked the pool and beach beyond pool. There is access to the beach from the hotel. We were on the 9th floor. There is a restaurant at hotel (we did not eat there) and 2 places to eat across the street-one a deli type that would work for breakfast. You can check it out on the Marriott site to see if it is in a location that suites your needs. Trip Advisor ratings were good-if you care to go by these.
