Love.II.Cruise Posted June 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2012 What happens to the sanctuary in Alaska? Do they still sell it? We've experienced very COLD ALaska cruises and could not see doing the Sanctuary experience. We are curious to others experience.
caribill Posted June 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2012 They at least try to sell it.
critterchick Posted June 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2012 It was closed for most of our recent Star Princess cruise. I think it was open in Skagway and the sea day after that. I imagine that, if somebody pays for a particular day and it's closed, they just refund the money.
Putterdude Posted June 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2012 It's often available but I am not sure why.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted June 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2012 What happens to the sanctuary in Alaska? I heard a rumour they might try out a new cabana in the Sanctuary for Alaska... :D:D
don'tleavewithoutme Posted June 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2012 On the Island Princess recently, they had it open for $60 for the day in Glacier Bay. It was wonderful - the service, the lack of crowding at the rail for pictures, etc. The Sanctuary had very little use other days, particularly when it rained! Rare 1025cruise Posted June 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2012 They still sell it, but a better purchase is the thermal suite in the spa. That being said, since we had the thermal suite, I did notice numerous days that the Sanctuary was closed due to weather.

I almost forgot about the thermal suites. We will definitely book them!
Assateague Island Princes Posted June 10, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Can someone please enlighten me of exactly what the Santuary is? I've sailed to Alaska four times, but always on HAL. All this talk of the Santuary has me curious. Thanks for the info.
I_heart_vaca Posted June 10, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Its an Adult Only area (on Sea Princess its an elevated deck up one flight of steps up from regular pool and far forward) with its own pool and lounger areas. I didn't see it open our entire cruise to Alaska - although it must have been open on sea days because I saw ads in the Patter. I can see how it would be worth the money on the warm holiday trips (spring break!) where there are lots of kids around the pools. Not so much on a 10 day to Alaska - we had very few kids and very chilly weather, especially on deck, and forward.
Assateague Island Princes Posted June 10, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Thanx so much for the explanation - so it is an outdoors area, I was picturing an indoor area w/windows all around. Appreciate the education! I'll have to check it out on Princess website.
2little time Posted June 10, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 10, 2012 I wonder if it is ever used in Alaska?
Rare TracieABD Posted June 10, 2012 #14 Share Posted June 10, 2012 We love the Sanctuary, but did not purchase it on our Alaska cruise. We did purchase the Thermal Suite. Ahhhhhh............:)

Rare 1025cruise Posted June 10, 2012 #16 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Its an area in the spa with hot stone loungers, tropical showers, a nicer dry sauna than in the locker room, an aroma therapy steam room, and a large steam room.
celestialcruiser Posted June 10, 2012 #17 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Thanks. I figured it was something like that. That would be nice in Alaska after being outside in the cold.
Rare TracieABD Posted June 10, 2012 #18 Share Posted June 10, 2012 Thanks. I figured it was something like that. That would be nice in Alaska after being outside in the cold. It is nice. The tiled loungers are heated. I think the cost is $25 per day or $99 for the week. It is typically quiet in this area, so I go to read. The only time I have had a difficulty was on a recent Caribbean cruise, when one person sneaked their whole rowdy/drunken family into the area and they caused quite a din. I am pretty sure that batch was raised by wolves...:)
Rare 1025cruise Posted June 10, 2012 #19 Share Posted June 10, 2012 It was $99 a week, with a limited number of passes sold. If I were in there and saw an entire family without bracelets come waltzing in, I would be the first to go to the desk and ask for enforcement. itzmered Posted June 11, 2012 #24 Share Posted June 11, 2012 It was closed most days last summer when we were on the golden. It made for a great spot to stand out of the wind and view the scenery. There were quite a few people standing in there, most of the loungers were pushed off to one side
ocaladee Posted August 22, 2014 #25 Share Posted August 22, 2014 Does anyone know if there is a thermal spa on the Golden? All I see are postings from folks on the Grand.
