Mr305 Posted June 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Was watching the ships head out today, Sky headed out with the group. Checked http://marinetraffic.com/ais/ a few minutes ago, noticed Sky is only doing 1.7 knots off Miami Beach. That's not good, you can see Imagination (15 Knots) and Majesty (8 Knots) pulling away as expected. Has anyone heard from relatives onboard? david_sobe Posted June 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2012 The Sky always creeps along. At the speed of those other ships, the Sky would make the Bahamas in hours. When I first was on the Sky, I was surprised how slow she went. But it made a nice smooth journey to the Bahamas for an early morning arrival. Laszlo Posted June 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Something is wrong, the ship just made at 180 and is doing 1.5Kts

Mr305 Posted June 16, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted June 16, 2012 She usually does 8 to 9 knots to the Bahamas, this is not normal.
Mr305 Posted June 16, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted June 16, 2012 There is bad weather moving into Miami, wonder if they are slowly moving away to then come back?
Rare mking8288 Posted June 16, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2012 Cruise ships don't need to travel at anything close to top speed to cover the relatively short nautical distance between Miami & the Bahamas - engine could be just fine, not to worry ... Besides, it can easily make it up in the next 9 or 10 hours, after most folks get to enjoy their dinner, attend the show & began exploring the casino, disco & whatever - and, then - the Capt. can order Full Ahead on its modern verison of EOT. Afterall, the Majesty is only doing 10 knots & Imagination at 14 knots, unlikely any one of them having engine trouble ... It's not unusual for ships to arrive early & close to its next port of calls and do a slow circle/remaining nearly stationary in open water - and then slowly "creep" into the pier to dock in the predawan hours. shelly11 Posted June 16, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2012 Both times I've been on the Sky we creeped along out to sea then creeped in to port in the early morning.
MiamiSpartan Posted June 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2012 We just got off of the Sky this am....nothing wrong with it...they just go really slow, since the stops on the 3 and 4 night cruise are so close....
Cubechick Posted June 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2012 I agree. It's the first time we've been on a cruise that we didn't feel like we were moving. She goes super slow.
david_sobe Posted June 16, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2012 Yes the weather is a factor tonight in Miami. Powerful electrical storms near downtown and just off the coast of the port of Miami. I am sure the weather is related to the travel of the ship. Things are really bad on Miami Beach tonight, downtown and just off the coast. Extremely heavy rain and tons of lighting. Starry Eyes Posted June 16, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 16, 2012 even if a ship is moving slowly and / or turns, there are other explanations. a short trip is one. Another sadly common one...medical issue. I recall being at dinner at sail away for a transatlantic cruise when a older gent passed out...lives change in seconds.
