VickiD59 Posted June 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Are there taxis readily available outside the cruise terminal much like you'd find at an airport. Trying to figure out transportation for my sis'inlaw for when she gets off the ship. Thanks.
CruiserBruce Posted June 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Taxi Golden Rule #1- go to where the money- fares- are. Therefore, if there is a ship in port, there will be taxis there.

When it's busy, the lines can looked pretty long - just like the airports, but, they move fairly quickly - with the dispatcher helping to sort out # in the group, destination & even summoning a minivan to jump the "line" if necessary. The entire process is well-organized at the Manhattan Cruise Teminal, and, if you are on the street level already after existing the luggage pickup/CBP booth, you can also walk outside, across the street as there is a 2nd. Taxi Stand on the northbound side of 12th Avenue/West Side Hwy - instead of taking the elevator back up to level 2 for the taxi (early birds started arriving for early check-in are getting dropoff & if the drivers see that disembarking pax are coming out, they will patiently wait for their turns.) greatam Posted June 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Which cruise terminal???? I would call a car service. MUCH nicer than standing in a taxi line. Call when you get off the ship. Car should be there in no more than 15 minutes. FIXED price which is a real money saver in NYC.
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2012 If you are not in a rush then take the taxi. There will either not be a line for them or you may have to wait a few minutes. If you are in a rsh, take a car service that is eating there for you. Keith

Kennedy (JFK) Airport:For trips between (to and from) Manhattan and JFK International Airport, the flat fare is $45.00 plus any tolls using Rate Code 2 on the meter. A NY State Tax Surcharge of $.50 will be added to each trip.

We've sailed out of that location and have never had an issue. We'd leave the pier, walk immediately across the avenue and have always found quite a few cabs waiting. flowers44 Posted June 19, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2012 We've taken the taxi to Penn Station. As long as you tip the driver, they don't really care where you have to go. A quick trip to Penn Station and around the block and they are back in line for another passenger.

imola Posted June 20, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 20, 2012 We are looking at sailing out of Brooklyn Cruise Port in Sept. Princess said we should fly into JFK. Does anyone know the best way to get to the port? How much a taxi might cost? We know nothing about the area.
greenleafs21 Posted June 24, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 24, 2012 You can get a flat rate with a car service or some taxi cabs.
Brighton Line Posted June 26, 2012 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2012 What is the taxi fare to EWR Taxi (yellow medallion) fare to EWR is the amount shown on the taximeter using Rate Code 3 which includes a surcharge of $15.00 ($17.50 for initial flag drop plus $0.40 per 1/5 mile and time waiting); and all necessary tolls to and from the destination shall be paid by the passenger. The catch is "tolls FROM" EWR so the bridge/tunnel into NJ is free you have to still pay the toll for the trip back empty since the cab can not pick up a fare legally in NJ. I would arrange car service to EWR.
smeyer418 Posted June 26, 2012 #15 Share Posted June 26, 2012 What is the taxi fare to EWR a yellow cab costs between 75-90. that is meter plus $15.00 plus roundtrip tolls and tip. A car service will charge a flat rate of about $60 plus tip depending on car service see as an example http://www.carmellimo.com(not a recommendation I don't use them) and they have coupons on line.
