New Platinum Gift-Binoculars

If I'm not mistaken John Heald said they were going to be "brilliant!"

No, seriously, they (either Heald one of of the executives who gave a Q&A on VIFP) stated that their "increased investment in the platinum gift" was a major new perk for Platinum guests under VIFP. If I wasn't at work (alas I am) and had time (alas I don't) I'd go search for the exact language regarding the new binoculars.

Did I think they would be any good? Haha, no, of course not... but it seems to be yet another thing that was misrepresented with regards to VIFP.

They sure said that the new gift would be wonderful and much better than what we had been getting before.

Would be sad if they were not brilliant.

Whatever they give out is okay with me, but I think that they should come out with a Perks Area on the Booking site- Just like you can select your bed ( single or king) dining time ( early , late or Anytime) excursions etc. They should have a group of Platnium gifts and each person could pick what they like or need! ( all I can say is that I have packed binoculars on 14 cruises only used them once on the Alaska trip.) Heck a coupon for so much off for shopping on the ship! I have 3 of blue coolers, 2 sling backpacks and since I have 3 more cruises Nov-Jan don't think I need 3 pairs of binoculars, and really most of my friends are platnium so who am I going to give them to. Agreed. After awhile we just give them to friends we make on the ship. A list would be much better.

Just have to comment on the slots. I play them every cruise. Sure they have always been tight but this last cruise (just returned July 8) it was ridiculous. I have never in my life seen slots so tight. But did it stop me from playing, NOOOOOOOOOOO, my bad luck, should have stopped.

For the last several cruises I have gotten enough points to get some casino cash on the next cruise. I always take the same amount of cash to play. This past cruise I did not reach a level to get casino cash and did not play as much since the slots were so tight. Normally I win enough to keep going alot all week and rack up points. No luck this time. The slots are a joke.

Hearing the binocs they give you are pretty lousy, I think I'll take my own for Spirit -Alaska in Aug. also!

Actually, I only meant that we were going to take binoculars in case the Platinum gift we receive in September is not binoculars .

We're actually very happy with any Carnival logo items, because we are proud to advertise that we've cruised Carnival and we're too excited to finally be Platinum to care what the gifts are. I just wish they had more Carnival logo stuff in the gift shops.

My Sister is just off the Alaskan Spirit cruise and got the binoculars as her Platinum gift..She said they were terrible and she gave them to her new door neighbor's 10 year old son..I guess theres another cut-back and everyone was right about them being cheap looking..She also told me the slot machines were so tight she only played a little the first two days......Dennis

cheap binoculars are better than no binoculars. I'll take 'em!

Hey Tom, you would think they would give the Diamond cruisers a little better gift though...I'll get my first Daimond gift on the Spirit in Sept..Stu I have started giving my gifts away to people I meet on my cruises also...Several have loved the picture frames although I gave away one of my sling back packs so I only have one now that they have stopped giving them..:)...Dennis

i like the pen and paper with the leather case, i use it all the time for work. i love my backpack and the blue duffle bag i recieved on the magic last year (my fave!). however as stated the binoculars are FREE, they arent going to be great quality that you would get for a $500 pair and a dept. store. as far as the slot machines being tight....really? duh! aren't all casino slot machines tight most of the time?! my brother did win $500 on the last cruise we took on the slots. we go up to hochunk at the dells a bit, NEVER win

I also really liked the pen and notepad set. It is the only gift that we have used every one of them.

When we cruise 7 times a year...that is 21 of "whatever" a year.... and I have those notepads in every purse...each car and in every room of the house...love them....

What a cruise that's going to be!

We still think the best gift was the first ones they gave out - the blue tote bags. Unfortunately that was before we realized it should have been one per Platinum cruiser and not one per cabin so we only got 3 or 4 of them. We're still using the first one and have had the handle fixed and the other 2 or 3 are in storage. That was very practical and we use it all the time.

From my point of view , I would prefer something practical that I can get decent use out of. The black sling bag is my favorite so far as you can use it for a lot of things. I take mine to the beach and at times Inuse it as a work bag. Carnival would get much more mileage in free advertising . If the binoculars are how I think they are, they will end up at the bottom of a drawer.

Perhaps they should consider compact umbrellas - with the Carnival logo on them. We have a couple of "Celebrity" umbrellas that I keep in the back seat - and use on occasion.

I really like this idea. This is the type of item that should be part of a Platinum gift catalogue . Other items that could make sense include robe, beach towel, and stainless or porcelain insulated coffee mug.

With the majority of the country having a drought I'm not sure those would be well received.
