bar2020 Posted July 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2012 I know this has been covered many times in the past, but I have seen mixed answers regarding the dress code for going into the casino. I can be on the safe side and wear dress clothes, but being it is July and very hot I would rather wear nice shorts and a polo shirt if possible. Has anyone been there recently who could give advice? Thanks in advance
laurieb Posted July 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2012 I'd love to know too. From what I've read on the Monte Carlo travel website, to go in the evening men need to wear jackets and ties; I would assume that women need to be dressed in dressier clothes than shorts. It also says that sport shoes are never allowed inside.
bar2020 Posted July 18, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted July 18, 2012 sorry I should have specified that I will be there during the early afternoon. I have heard night time is more dressy, but the daytime is where it seems to be less enforced. I have also heard that it may not open until 2pm....can anyone verify that? Rare Hlitner Posted July 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2012 Not sure why you are looking for recent visitors since nothing changes in this place (for many decades). The Casino opens at 2pm and they charge a ridiculous 10 Euro entrance fee (this is for tourists...not for the real gamblers). There is always a dress code...even if it is hot and humid. In their own words "Correct dress is mandatory." This does mean no shorts! We have never understood the draw of this place and why anyone would pay 10 Euros to go into a casino when you do not even get to see the best parts (they have private gambling rooms not open to the day tourists). Unless they have changed the rules you had best have your passport. Hank

Thanks in advance From their web site: DRESS CODE In the gaming rooms: appropriate dress required. No shorts or flip flops allowed In the private rooms: after 8pm a jacket is required. No sport shoes allowed No military or religious uniforms allowed ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Entrance fee is €10 per person: €10 supplement for the private rooms Identity card is compulsory Minimum age:
bar2020 Posted July 18, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted July 18, 2012 Sorry, the reason I was asking is because I have seen several posts where people stated that there were plenty of people inside who did not wear dress pants and that the dress code was not enforced. That is why I asked. Thanks for the responses. I'm sorry you do not like the casino. Maybe I wont either but it has been something that I would like to check out while I am in the area for the day. heidik Posted July 18, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 18, 2012 I was there in April of this year during the day and paid the 10 euro. to walk through the Casino (did not enter any private rooms) -- it was very hot and there were not alot of people in the building - all were dressed "nice casual" - I did not notice any shorts, tee shirts or flipflops. There were some men at a card table wearing suits....and smoking.....alot......the building is absolutely gorgeous and I really enjoyed sitting in one of the grand lounges admiring the decor -- check out the restroom when you go - beautiful! Hank I paid the entrance/tour fee with pleasure and looked at my visit as I would visiting a famous historical landmark and museum -- the Belle Epoque art and architecture is beautiful and the views are wonderful from the outside balconies -- and the history is fascinating...to me. I don't gamble and the Casino was one of the highlights of my French Riviera experience :) oh, and yes, make sure you have your passport or you're not getting in..... Right next door is the American Casino which is very casual, and this may have been the one talked about thinking it was "The" Casino as some people do get them confused.Really.The dress code has been the same for years and I do not think it will ever change. The American Casino is really fun even if one doesn't know waht they are playing:D
