Two things:

# 1, knowing what somebody else was offered won't be of any help to you, as airline schedules change like the wind.

# 2, On such a long flight, you will probably want to fly in a day or two early so that you are not a zombie on the first few days of your cruise. That being true, I would suggest that you contact Oceania or your Travel Agent and ask that the details of the "Air Deviation Program" be spelled out to you.

Enjoy your trip! :)

We just got our air from Oceania for the sailing from Papeete to Sydney. Booking through them saved us over $1000 for each ticket than booking on our own. I checked through my travel agent as well as several online sites to see what was the most reasonable ticket I could purchase. I could have got a cheaper ticket but  it would have taken 37 hours to fly down and 42 hours to fly back. Oceania's bookings mean that I will have around 14 hour flights instead.

Can you tell me which airline O assigned to get you down from Vancouver ?

We are getting the feeling that O wants us to go with Qantus and their

partners , rather AC or Air New Zealand

Thanks Pete

Why not just request the flights you want then see if there is any extra upcharge

You will probably have to pay the deviation fee but you probably want to go in earlier anyway

We did request specific flights, but seem to get a large extra fee

We requested TO to Vanc via AC, and Vanc to Auck via ANZ. We asked for AC back from Sydney with a "non stop ( meaning no plane change) in Vanc" on the way home. Seems like they don't like AC.

What airlines did O give you ?

Thanks Pete

Do they even have a non stop from SYD to YYZ???

You could also just book your own air...compare the price with the air credit Oceania will give you then make the choice what works best for you

AC has fares of about $2700 pp for economy

Air Canada has a flight, AC034, Sydney to Toronto with a stopover in Vancouver.

Cheers,

Don

The OP asked for a NON STOP flight

I have not seen any flights from SYD to YYZ

I do not think there is a plane that can carry that much fuel for a flight that long at least a commercial flight anyway ;)

With ITA I see an AC YYZ-LAX & NZ LAX-AKL and returning AC SYD-YVR-YYZ for CA$2456 for your time frame.

Good flights and good price, IMO

How much is your air credit from Oceania?

AZ code share with AC also have the same price as Paul mentioned with connections in YVR both ways

There are options you just need to decide what works for you

Do not forget to arrive a few days early because of the time zones ;)

The OP stated:

"We asked for AC back from Sydney with a "non stop ( meaning no plane change) in Vanc" on the way home"

As Paulchilli and I pointed out, Air Canada does provide a flight from SYD to YYZ with a stopover in YVR with no plane change.

Cheers,

Don

Technically a non stop is just that NON STOP

A direct flight with stop with no change of planes

A stopover is where you stay at the city for a day or more

A connection is where you stop then change places to the next destination on your route

Hope that helps

So flight 34 on AC is a direct flight

That's pretty much the exact route I took a couple years ago and outbound was great. Our return still had the stop for refuel in Hawaii as they didn't add the SYD-YVR option so what you've quoted is far superior.

We are flying Air Canada to LAX, then Air Nuit to Papeete. Coming home we have Air Canada from Sydney to Vancouver. Cost was deviation fee plus $500. We could not book it for less doing it ourselves. We tried and so did our TA and the closest we could come to Oceania's deal was $1,000 more per person.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I was away from internet services for the weekend and had a good break.:D I was too busy watching Golden Eagles and Bald Headed Eagles and pods of Orcas.
