A Pisces Posted July 21, 2012 #28 Share Posted July 21, 2012 We will be sailing on the Monarch in Sept., for the second time. Our first cruise with RCI was on the Monarch back in the early 90's, so it will be nice to see her again. Really enjoying reading your thread, and seeing the pictures, so I thought I would post ones of your departure for you.;)
MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #29 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Arrived back at the ship and went to Jade for a snack and walked around the ship before falling asleep in a chair on the 2nd level pool area. Calypso music was playing, the sun was shining, was a beautiful day. Was a quiet day at port ship wise with just the Carnival Imagination and the Monarch. Our water taxi guide said Sunday will be a very busy day there with the Oasis. Said Sundays are generally there busier days. After my nap on deck I walked around the ship some and took a few pictures. Most of my pictures I've taken have been with my iPhone this whole trip. Went back to my room and got ready for dinner and ventured back out on the ship. Tonight is "Formal" night, let's see how well that goes, I'm dressed far from formal and wasn't bringing formal clothes for a three day cruise. I opted to eat in the Windjamer, had some nice roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables and some lemonade. Was really good and glad I opted out of eating in the dining room tonight. After dinner I walked around deck and enjoyed the beautiful night. Ship was fairly quiet with quite a few people still exploring Nassau. When I came back to my room I had a message from one of the moms they were going to dinner at 7:10 if I wanted to meet up with them, was 830 when I came back to my room, Opps. :-) Earlier I had hit the casino again still staying ahead. While in there this woman and husband started talking to me and asked how I was doing and they hadn't seen me since we boarded the ship. I obliged and said well, what I did today and so forth. I have no clue who they are I don't recall ever speaking with them before. My guess is she thought I was someone else. I'm pretty sure they were not in the shuttle service that brought me to the port from the parking lot. Time to go back out and about. We'll be leaving Nassau at midnight. Until then I think it's time for some beer. Till a later time. Live from the Monarch in Nassau. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors. MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #30 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Since my last update I've walked around the ship some, hit up Schooner bar and the casino. I've managed after tonight's winning be ahead by $ 110.00. I'm going to allow myself to wager with $ 15.50, let's see where that goes. Just stopped down to my room to recycle my beer and do the math to see how far ahead I was. Karma surly is on my side this trip, haven't run into the moms and daughters but am sure I will before the evenings up, we sail in less than an hour and there is a deck party starting at 11:30. Till a later time, live from the Monarch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors.

MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #34 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Went up on deck around 11:15 last night to watch for deck runners in which there weren't any. The gangway was pulled up right at 11:30 and we set sail at 11:38. 22 minutes early. When we arrived Carnival Imagination was docked, when we left she was still there. She had a long stop in Nassau. Deck party and midnight buffet on the lido deck was in full swing. Everyone was having a great time. Till a later time. Live from the Monarch. Bye Nassau, bye Carnival Imagination Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors.

MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #37 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Left my room at 10:00 to go get something to eat but decided I'd just wait till I got to Coco Cay. My neighbors in the cabin were having rumpy pumpy, that went on for quite awhile before I left my room, they were still at it when I left. Walked right onto the tender at 10:15, the seas are choppy and it's overcast and very windy. We departed the ship around 10:30 and those of us on the left side of the tender got soaked. Just as we were about to get to the island it started to rain. Luckily it didn't last to long, but the rest of the day doesn't look to promising. I walked around and stopped at one of the bars and got the island special, can't remember the name, but he added extra rum to it. Wooowa was it good. Found a nice quiet area to sit near the water sports stuff as the wind dried my shirt off. The sun may not be out but it's beautiful and the temperature is just right. Then the storm rolled I ran for cover to the volley ball court seating thats covered but still got soaked, made my way back to the bar area where shortly after the bartender told us we needed to make our way back to the tender, the island is being evacuated. I got to the what was now a long line and way up ahead I saw the two moms and graduates. I went up and joined them and we all got on the next tender. We were brought to a different part of the ship and walked down I 95 from the stern of the ship to the center. We had lots of crew greeting up and making sure they everyone got warm towels. Was quite cool walking down I 95. Got back to the room to shower and warm up by 11:30, ventured back on the ship around noon. That was quite the exciting adventure. Still people on island on the way back to the ship. Till a later time, live from the Monarch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors. MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #39 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Met up with the moms and graduates near the coffee area where we all sat and relaxed for a bit. A lady that was sitting there was talking with us and told us when the storm rolled thru it tipped the ship. Stuff got knocked everywhere, one of the liquor shelves in the store fell and broke. I later strolled off to find some food and sat with a nice elderly lady from Ft Lauderdale. I asked her how she was and said still a little shaken but ok. I asked what happened and she said the same as the lady we met at coffee shop except she was by the pool area and the water splashed out, happened so quick. In any regards if you were on Coco Cay or on the ship today was a fun adventure. After my quick snack I sat out on the pool deck and ran into the couple from the casino that think I'm someone else. We chatted for a bit then I went on my way and sat by the pool bar and relaxed and people watched. The seagulls are having a blast on the pool deck, reminds me of the movie "The Birds". A bit before 1:30 everyone was back on the ship and we pulled up anchor leaving Coco Cay and this mornings adventure behind. Till a later time, live from the Monarch. Looking at the radar it seems to be the same storm that hit the Bahamas earlier. Glad you are all OK!
dacsmom Posted July 22, 2012 #41 Share Posted July 22, 2012 That sounds like a not so good day. I think I would rather be on Cococay than on the ship when the storm hit. I am sorry your stay was cut short, that is my favorite stop. I am going to have to try a coco loco again, I had one and it was warm and not the best. Maybe if I got one from the bar and not one that a waiter brought around in his cart. To PH8, I wish our sailing had a muster station in Boleros, we had to stand outside on deck 7. Looking forward to my short cruise on the Monarch. I am not a fan of short cruises, but I was going to be 2 points short of Diamond this year, and I wanted to get the status, so I booked a weekend trip. Haven't seen CocoCay yet, so hopefully we get good weather for that. I would rather miss Nassau than CocoCay. My friend is bringing her mother on this cruise for a first cruise. MrFunInTheSun Posted July 22, 2012 Author #44 Share Posted July 22, 2012 By 2:30 the captain navigated us to calmer weather, the sun somewhat came out. They were showing the movie Hunger Games in the Sound of Music theater at 2:00. I went out to the pool deck and relaxed and got a beer or two. While there I ran into the mom that flew down With her kids from Michigan. She's still enjoying her cruise and she a kids can't wait for the next one, she's not sure if she'll be able to keep the one at Christmas time a secret or not. Mom of graduate stopped by and was nice we were able to chat for awhile. Dinner in a bit. The overall atmosphere of the ship seems good, everyone has adjusted to the change in plans quite well. Those with excursions today were refunded. Throughout the afternoon we encountered a few more rain showers. Till a later time, live from the Monarch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Ander026 Posted July 22, 2012 #46 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Great live thread of you vacation on the Monarch. Can't wait to read the rest. Your time on Coco Cay reminds me of my Monarch Dec 2010 cruise and our stop at Coco Cay. I never went to the island but saw the return trips back to the Monarch when they had to move the Monarch and use the other Tenders to shelter the other Tenders from the waves to get the guests back on board. That day the storm came suddenly in the afternoon. By the time we left we were an hour or two behind schedule. Well enjoy the rest you your vacations on the Monarch P.S. That storm has now rolled past Central Florida, I believe
madelyn Posted July 22, 2012 #47 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Thank you for posting this live review. Our situations are very similar. My father passed away 3 months ago. I truly understand how you feel, the need to get away. I have to get away or I will lose it. I have never traveled solo and my husband and son can not travel with me in Aug. when I actually have time off. I put solo travel out of my mind until I read this. I may just go for it and cruise solo because of this review. Looks like you are having a great time.
MrFunInTheSun Posted July 23, 2012 Author #48 Share Posted July 23, 2012 Had dinner this evening in the dinning room, having steak, scallops and salad. Steak was actually pretty good. At the table next to us was Piano sing along girl and her sister and parents, was good seeing them again. She was a lot of fun at the piano bar. After dinner walked around the ship enjoying the last night. The Monarch has a nice rock to it tonight, listening to the waves and water bounce off the ship is very relaxing. I'm beat and most likely have an early night. This will most likely be the last post while we are at sea. Three day cruises are just to short, but nice and a good break between going on a longer cruise. I may do a live in November when I sail on Carnival Sensation and Carnival Freedom back to back.
