We have enjoyed them all...never had a bad cruise yet. HAL is still our favorite. Wishing I was on one right now!

Once we return home, and reality sets in. We are ready to head back to the shp and start over again.
we have only been on 1 cruise, last March was our first ever.
Wow! I am totally in love with Maasdam, with HAL, with cruising, with everything.

We had no expectations whatsoever and we experienced everything with wide-eyed wonder.

The weather was great, the itinerary was great (except the traffic on St Thomas, wat a horrendous mess that turned out to be since the last time I have been there), the food was great, the beds were totally great! The ship was great...we spent as much time as possible outside on deck. Love the ocean, love the outside.

As bonus we had a totally wonderfull roll-call group with many repeaters who gave us great tips and tricks. And some wonderfull stories as well.

Best of all was our Oasis day on HMC. That was the greatest way to finish an already wonderful cruise.

Somebody said they mistrust glowing reviews but we only had good things to report.....but that's the way we are. Don't sweat the small stuff, right?

(oh wait a minute, there was one small minus: my husband says the coffee was terrible. His actual words one day was: Niet te zuipen. I don't drink coffee so **shrug**...tea was fine! ).
We enjoyed having you two Ina!!!

May all your cruises be great.

All of my cruises have been good. Only one bad ship (Constitution - American Hawaii). That's also the only ship where the food was not so good (but good at dinner). Otherwise, we've had little things go wrong, but we are low maintenance people. We mostly roll with the punches and treat it as another experience.

OTOH, I have had some nightmare travel to, and from, cruises. I think coming back from Venice in 1992 took about 2 years off my life, and I'm not kidding. As a result of that, and a few other bad experiences, we plan out travel to, and from, even more carefully than we plan our cruise. Again, I'm not kidding.

That is the secret of life I suspect, that is a happy one at least I think the more you open your self and let go the better you are. I sometimes shake my head at posts wanting to know what side of the plane to sit on, what the menu is, who the entertainment is , what to do in each port,..etc etc. Let each day be an exciting discovery, rather than creating a yardstick prior to the cruise, by which you will measure everything..

Expectations, they say pave the road to hades I leave mine at home.:o

Actually, now that I think about it ... that cruise on Legend of the Seas wasn't perfect - it ended and we had to get off! But we had three days in Rome afterwards, and they were perfect in every way!!

Have been on many cruises - some better than others, for varied reasons. The cruise to the Amazon was a memory maker because of the ports of call. An especially memorable cruise was wonderful because of our traveling companions. But, never had a "BAD" cruise, per se. Some minor disappointments, for sure, but not any cruise that would turn me off a cruise line or ship for good. Just some cruises that were better. ---- Penny

I have only cruised twice on HAL (another upcoming) but four times on other lines.

On my first HAL cruise, Eurodam, everything was wonderful. We had a retreat cabanna and spent a lot of time there. Impeccible service, quiet atmosphere and yummy snacks. We were in a deluxe suite but not on the same deck as the Neptune but we did make full use of it. I loved the coffee. After having just done a disastrous NCL cruise we thought HAL was the best.

Unfortunately, our next HAL cruise on the Veendam was not as good, mostly due to air conditioning problems. I am hoping our next on the Nieuw Amsterdam will be like the first.

A lot of how we review, rant, rave, and feel about our cruises I think will always come down to that specific cruise and how we feel at that moment.
I cruised recently on HAL and would not change a thing. (well, longer would have been nice)...
But the cruise before that had one issue after another. We had plumbing & ac problems, 3 blackouts and a fire... :(
By weeks end, all I saw was a run down ship I had cruised on 4 times previouly, so I was even more frustrated with her demise...
While I tried to write an unbiased review- I simply couldn't...
I had never been on a cruise before when I counted how many days until I could get off the boat...

Rereading it months later, I wish I had not wrote it at all- it was an isolated week that I doubt those who moved into our cabin the next week. Others posted its problems I did not need to have added to it.
I am sure many have vented and then wished they had waited a few weeks to look back on it in a less stressful manor. That cruise had real problems... but I was still on vacation, the service was excellent, and it had more good than I gave it credit...

Currently- we are exploring another cruise and it turns out to be on the same ship I ranted I would never go back on!
Suddenly, the nonflushing toilet, the broken air conditioning, the power outages & fire are part of a bad week that could have happened on any cruise...
so I am reminded- never say never again... (Foot in my mouth...)
Looks like we are returning to her after all... :D

if you want it to be.. the it will be. Inversely if you expect problems thn chances are good that you will find ot make them.

While some see the glass as half full and others as half empty, I am just happy to have a glass !

Have there been hiccups on our cruises? Yep.

Do I remember them? Honestly, no as there were so many things that were awesome (all lines) that those hiccups weren't anything to worry on. We've never had catastrophic plumbing failures and we pick our cabins based on our budget and proximity to everything (getting there and being away from noise).

That said, if there was a serious plumbing issue I would whine until the ears
and arm stumps of Venus de Milo bled, but again that hasn't ever happened to us (yet).

I would say 20 great, 2 OK. The 2 that were not great was because of an ongoing mold issue in the bathroom, that was never corrected. The other OK cruise was because we were assigned an interior cabin with bunk beds. Only 1 person could stand in the cabin at a time. I can't blame the cruiseline---we should have known better, because we paid $600pp with air.

We've had mostly outstanding cruises on HAL, some very good and only one that I would say was disappointing.

The cruise was probably wonderful but as I had an accident on the treadmill the first sea day and broke my shoulder, collarbone, and dislocted the shoulder entrapping a tendon I really couldn't say. :D

Truthfully, HAL treated me wonderfully, the infirmary was OK, although I don't remember a lot of it. They got me off to a hospital when we reached port and then arranged to fly me home ASAP.

HAL has taken us to so many amazing places, always treated us like royalty, always fed us well and always showed us a good time.

We are looking forward to 30 days aboard a Vista class for the first time in Oct.

Let's see...We've had bad things happen on cruises - I fell down a flight of stairs(!) and had to be be carried from the sports deck down to sick-bay on a back board. and get xrays. But I was okay and the captain came to see me.
I've come down with a bad cold and had to stand waiting forever in the freezing rain for a tender in Scotland. Thank god there was miso soup on the buffet.
We HAD to spend an extra day in Maui (bummer:rolleyes:) instead of going to whatever dinky island NCL used to have to go to before they were flagged US. (We rescued a sailor from a burning sailboat.)
Really rough sailing a few times. Hmmm....
On our last cruise the balcony door kept sticking - when we finally got around to calling about it, it took about 15 whole minutes for someone to arrive and fix it.
There have been line-jumpers on nearly every ships' excursion.

I can't honestly say I've ever been on a perfect cruise, but I wouldn't have missed a single one. Perfect is kind of boring.

We have only been on a few cruises and always travel with our family. With the exception of one small incident in a MDR dinner, all of our trips have been memorable. We set out to have a good time and don't let any small things bother us. It is what you make of it.

We do our research on rooms and have had some spectacular rooms with huge balconies etc. as well as a couple of suites. My kids always enjoy themselves and will continue cruising after they leave the house. It seems like regardless of the situation, some people just like to complain. I guess it makes them feel better. I just don't understand.

Life is too short to let some of the little things people have complained about ruin your vacation. :)

On our last cruise, my ear plugged up after snorkeling at our first port. I was deaf in one ear the entire time. I was a little concerned about flying home with a plugged up ear When someone was seated on my left, I would have to smile like an idiot and nod. I was told to not snorkel until the ear cleared up. Our cabin was gorgeous and huge. But, there was something in the ceiling that rolled back and forth with the waves. Someone must have tried to find the source, because one of the ceiling tiles was askew.

This could have been the worst cruise, but it was the BEST!! Nothing was going to spoil it for me!!

All of our cruises have been wonderful. A couple of month ago, I read the following on CC:
-Keep a positive attitude and stay away from "chronic complainers" (they are everywhere).
-Understand that everything will not be perfect, but will be very good.
-Get on a vacation state of mind from day one, enjoy everything and don't let anything get you down.
-Always ask yourself: Would I rather be here doing this or stuck at work?
-The food might not be perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than what I eat every day.
-Have fun people watching.
-Enjoy every minute of your cruise; it will be over before you know it.

I can say we have never had a bad cruise in over 50. Some more memorable than others. The worst ship ever was the Mardi Gras back in 1983 but the cruise itself was not too bad even with the Casino staff throwing up all over the tables due to very rocky seas on New Year's Eve.

Seven cruise lines (several now gone) and over 700 cruising days I can honestly say that I have enjoyed ALL my cruises. All Perfect - no, but I never would expect them to be. Of course some less than optimal things happened on most of the cruises but so goes life. The good so outweighs the negative in all of my life experiences, including cruising. In fact, some of the "blips" on my cruises are actually the most fun to talk about when cruising friends get together. We make them into lemonade!

Is my life all fun and games - NO! Not with five major surgeries and several serious medical procedures in the past seven years. But I survived to tell about it and just keep having fun cruising or hanging around home.
My mother always told me that LIFE is much more enjoyable if I dwell on the good rather than the negative. I am definitely a "half full glass" person and it makes life much more fun and other good things come my way.

I wish I could buy a suite on the Eurodam and just sail forever! Even the "cruise to nowhere" on the Carnival Fantasy was great! We were suppose to go to Cozumel out of Mobile, AL, but shipped happened! Had a ball anyway. It's all your state of mind!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a cruise booked through HAL (my first with HAL) in Sept. and was beginning to wonder "what did I do?".

I have been on two cruises and various other vacations. There were aspects of some vacations that were better than others but I have never had a "bad" vacation. I guess some people find it easier to take things in stride and I really hope I haven't jinxed myself:o
