Possible to mix free time dining and fixed dining time?

Recommended Posts

I will be with a group of ten on the RC Mariner. We'll be dining at 5:30 (fixed time). Would anyone know if it's possible to eat at a different time just once on the cruise (table for two - just my husband and I). We didn't choose the "My Time" option because of the group but I sure would like to have just one romatic night alone with hubby!

Go to specialty dining :) I cant imagine anything about the MDR being "romantic".

I love the MDR experience but its pretty hectic at times and can get loud in there.

I think you can!!! All I would do is tell the waiter and your friends you are not joining for dinner that night", as you want a for a two alone dinner evening. MTD is only an area as part of one of the main dining rooms..I'm not sure which dining room of the 3 has the MTD section.

You should call to make a reservation early in the morning, as your choice time might book up rather quickly...Other option, wait in line for a TABLE FOR 2. You do not have to share, if they ask.

Hope this helps.

Safe sails and have a wonderful cruise!!!

Sorry...but NO...you can't...it's either Fixed Dining or My Time Dining in the Main Dining Room...as other's have said the best option for the OP is to book a night with her hubby in one of the Specialty venues....

No, you can;t its either traditional or MTD. sorry.

I don't think you can jump back and forth between MTD and traditional seating. You must choose one or the other. As others have said your best bet is a reservation in one of the specialty restaurants.

Correct.

As others have suggested - best thing to do is go to specialty restaurant for dinner for 2.

Why not go to a specialty resturant for that occasion.

I completely agree. For a romantic dinner...you want to choose a specialty restaurant. Much better ambiance for a romantic dinner for two. Plus, you two can be totally alone, not running into the rest of the group. When sailing with a group, DH and I like to do this so we have an evening completely on our own ;)

As others have already stated, no you can't. No offense but I have to wonder why you would say this? Were you just guessing? :(

EDITED to add this:I don't know about anyone else, but for me, it can be romantic in McDonald's or Wendy's if I am with my husband. The venue doesn't always matter... it's the person you are with. I know what OP meant by "romantic", but just wanted to give my spin on it. Hubby and I have been together over 31 years and we are still mad for one another. It's nice to go to a specialty restaurant, but it doesn't always matter. Oh, and for the record, we've had some very un-romantic dinners onboard ship in SR's. It's not always romantic. Just saying. :)

If you don't want to eat as a group every night, you can certainly eat in the MTD, but at a different time, and alone, if you choose!

You cannot use MTD or that area unless you have chosen MTD. If the entire group has MTD you can eat in any size group or time you want, but you cannot mix traditional dining and MTD. One of the Specialty Restaurants is a wonderful place for a romantic dinner. Enjoy your cruise and special night.

That is what I thought as well. Since my sis and I will be in a GS this time (and probably never again! the price was too great to pass on), I believe we will be able to order room servie off the main dinner menu every night!! YEAH!! Someone tell me if this is correct. I would be happy with a salad and escorgot every night and then head to the casino!!!

Yes, you will, but it will all come at once, not served in courses. But if you all you want is salad 'n snails, then that shouldn't be a problem for you.:)

I knew everything would come at once:). I think the full dinners are just too much to eat!! So if I want to order a steak, I can just order that (along with the escorgot of cours...LOL)

Your answer is not correct. Guests cannot mix traditional dining with My Time Dining. If someone in traditional dinings want to dine separate from their group for a night or two, they will have to select a specialty restaurant or go to the Windjammer. Telling them otherwise will only cause them to be disappointed.

If there is space available in the MDR it can be done. Last cruise the headwaiter asked us if we would mind a couple joining us at our 8 top with only four of us occupying it. We said of course we wouldn't mind. It turned out they were from late seating and needed to eat earlier just this once for some reason. As I said it can be done and all you need to do is ask! Of course there would have to be a vacancy that meets your needs. Hope you get what you want!!!

My mother and I were able to join a group of folks we had met during the cruise for late seating at their table on Freedom one night and we had MTD. They were at a 10 top table and only had 6 people. It was the second to the last night of the cruise so they pretty much knew the other two couples that had never showed up wouldnt be there.

One thing I have learned is if at all possible they will do their best to accomodate your requests.

I still say specialty dining is a better setting for a couple wanting some alone time though.

It would be extremely unwise for someone to plan their trip around it, though. While it is TECHNICALLY possible, it is not realistic, nor is it likely.

Several things (their party having space at the table, the staff working with them to help THEM fill that space, arriving early enough to make sure someone else didn't fill it, etc. etc. etc.) would have to fall in line and someone planning their trip around it, is almost assurdedly setting themselves up for disappointment.

The correct answer is still that it isn't possible to mix traditional with MTD. Would it be worth a try to ask? Sure. You could see if all the ducks fell into a row. Should you count on it? No. Is it likely? Not at all.

Especially, when you can do the specialty restaurant, as suggested, and be guaranteed success.

One of the reasons that RCI's MyTime dining works better than other lines' open dining is that you must choose one or the other. If lots of folks went back and forth, it would mean long waits for MyTime and possibly folks who want traditional not getting that option.
