Ooh, then it's a steal getting this package. :D
Just wished they were testing it on my cruise in a couple of weeks and not on the Victory.;)
indeed! and i wish it were on my triumph cruise in 9 days... i'd love to help them 'test it'

I guess we just do not drink enough! This adds up to $692 for 2 people for a 7 day cruise. That adds up to about 100 beers/glasses of wine. 7 per day per person. I could do that when I was a young crazy sailor but not today. I hope it works for some but it doesn't sound like a package for us.

It looks like DH and I are in a very small minority (along with Stu), but as much as we love Carnival, we would probably opt to cruise with a different cruise line if Carnival decides to roll this program out fleetwide.

I can certainly see the appeal (and value) to some cruisers. We are in our mid 40's and definitely did our share of drinking back in the day. We've been to probably a dozen different all inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Carribbean and made sure we "got our money's worth" of foo foo drinks on the all-inclusive plans.

We've also seen some EXTREMELY drunk people also trying to get the most of their all-inclusive plans--and FAR exceeding OUR "money's worth." Shockingly, appallingly drunk. Frat party drunk. College spring break drunk. We definitely don't care to see that behavior on a cruise, especially with our kids in tow.

I don't see the reason why you would change cruise lines all because they offer a drink package.

Looks like you won't be cruising in the near future, if that's the case ... It's the going trend.

Celebrity, which is a classy ship has it.
RC has it.
Even the Ultra-luxury Regent has it included in their fare.
And so does the Oceania.
The list goes on.

Agree -- and I think anybody who gets "shockingly, appallingly drunk" would do it whether they had an all-inclusive package or not - and if you think about it? Since Carnival IS putting a "cap" on how many drinks per day are allowed (granted, 15 drinks is a LOT - MUCH more than I could consume in day to be sure!), someone who's determined to get disgustingly hammered would probably have a better chance if they were NOT on the plan.

I don't know if enough people will take advantage of it to really make that much of an impact as far as drunken behavior is concerned. That's just going to happen on cruise ships either way -- it is what it is. Just MHO. I've even seen it on our Disney ships -- and we're the only cruise line that ALLOWS people to bring as much of their own alcohol as they want!

I am interested in the program. I notice many state that it can be paid for before the cruise but in the announcement it states it can be purchased on board. Any ideas if it can be pre-purchased? Anybody here when/if it will move to other ships other than the victory?
Where did you find it? I looked all over and didn't see it. I'm hoping for the best, my DH and I sail out Nov. 4 on the Splendor. Would be AWESOME if they were offering the package. :D
From JH's facebook yesterday:

Anyway, good afternoon from Essex where it is a beautiful summer’s day and as I sit here in my underpants and my arm brace it is time for the news. Lets start by raising a glass or 2. I am sure you saw this while I was away but if not, here it is again:

> CARNIVAL TESTING NEW ALL-INCLUSIVE BEVERAGE PROGRAM ON CARNIVAL
> VICTORY
>
> Carnival Cruise Lines began testing a new all-inclusive beverage program aboard the Carnival Victory starting with the ship's Aug. 5 departure.
>
> Under the "My Awesome Bar Program," guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer, and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails, throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. All wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced $10 and lower are available within the program. Full bottles of wine and champagne, as well as wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails priced above $10, are available at a 25 percent discount.
>
> Guests can sign up for the "My Awesome Bar Program" at Carnival Victory's atrium and casino bars, as well as a bar within the main pool area. Each guest aged 21 years and over in the same stateroom must purchase the beverage package. Guests must be 21 years or older to consume alcohol on Carnival ships.
>
> The cost for program is $42.95 per person per day, plus a 15 percent gratuity.

I have been in contact with the VP of Bars, the wonderful and vibrant Eddie A and he has told me that the program on the Carnival Victory was a big success and that the guests were “ very excited” about the program. It will continue on the Carnival Victory and on Sunday we started it on the Carnival Splendor this past Sunday and as we put it across the fleet I will let you know.
So, whats your thoughts on this? I have seen comments that show many of you seem excited as well about this so let me know if you have comments of questions.
Cheers

I'm on Splendor this Sunday, so can also report when I get back if it's on it :)
I think they meant surprised they pick this cruise since its so port intensive. 5 ports in 6 days. Instead of trying on what some people call a normal 7 day cruise with 3 ports in 6 days
Right. Perhaps CCL is worried that passengers will break the bank (consume more than anticipated) so by limiting the sea days they are reducing the time people are drinking.....on the ship.

Thank you so much for posting all of that! I really appreciate it. I am SUPER EXCITED now. I talked to my DH earlier today and he's really excited about it now too. Having our Diet Pepsi's/Cokes included with it definitely makes it worth it to us as we're both Diet Pepsi/Diet Coke addicts. Definitely let me know if the package is available. I hope you have an awesome cruise. :D
Celebrity has a drinks plan too, and they say all adults in the room have to purchase, but DH is not a big drinker, so we only got it for me, and no one said a thing.
On Celebrity cruises, one or both passengers per cabin can purchase the Premium Beverage Packages but it is not required that both participate. Of course, we both are and have a worry free trip in our future.
Please tell that this is a huge success on the other ships
that Carnival will be offering it on all it's fleets. :D
It started on the 8/5/12 sailing of the Victory and because of the success of the program has been expanded to the 8/26/12 sailing of the Splendor. This was confirmed on John Heald's facebook page. It looks like it's going to be going fleet wide.

My DW and I are not big drinkers, but we do like to have a few drinks each day, martinis before dinner, and wine with dinner. Our usual bar bill might be $300 or 400 for the entire cruise.

So to pay $50 pp for 2 of us for a 7 day cruise wouldn't make much sense, as we'd be paying $700.

This program sounds dangerous as it will start to turn a cruise into a drunken binge for 3,000 people who are trying to get their monies worth each day.

If this happens, we will definitely cease to cruise Carnival as we don't enjoy vacations that are spoiled by drunken idiots. This move moves Carnival just one ring lower on the class scale (but they don't seem to care as their bar receipts will probably go up).

And I can imagine families traveling with young children will agree.

Isn't there a 15 drink limit including your sodas?? If this is so, sodas are only a couple of bucks... this would cost you more...
