Help us decide

We are trying to decide WHEN to do a A Med cruise in 2013. We know it will be on the Royal. This is not our first time cruising the Med.....having done so in 2004 and 2010. We are looking at the July 5 or the Aug 22 sailings. Any pros or cons either way?

We cruise the Med in September and October for a bit cooler weather and smaller crowds. I'd pick late August as my favorite of your two options.

Much of Europe vacations in August. Sites will be crowded.

The school kids here tend to finish toward end of July so that may be quieter.

We cruised the Med in August and were shocked that some businesses were just completely closed for a couple of weeks for vacation. Although you are planning end August (we went during first half) it was BRUTALLY hot. Early July might be more comfortable!

It will be hot!!!!!!!!!!!! But many places are closed for vacation in August. If you can go in July and buy bottled water (and wine) at every port.

I would go on the July cruise. First, the itinerary is a little better. On the July cruise you go to Toulon (for Provence) instead of Cannes. I would love to take the tour to Aix en Provence. I have been to Cannes several times already. Also, you get a full day at Toulon (Provence), but only a half day at Cannes on the August cruise (ship sails at 2 pm so not much time in Cannes).

 

Secondly, the Europeans all take the month of August for their summer holiday so lots of things will be closed in August.

 

Weather will be hot in July and August, so not much difference there.

We've decided on the July 5 cruise.Pre-cruise we are going to fly into Paris for several days then fly onto Vernoa for a couple days then take the train into Venice. Cruise then starts from Venice.:)

We booked a DEC Med cruise. Will the weather be cooler in Dec?

We embarked on the Ruby July 4, 2010 from Venice to tour the Med and it was hot, hot, hot!!!!! Took water bottles filled with ice everyday and they were empty by noon. However, if it was my only chance I would definitely do it again! Worth it.
