midwest 852 Posted September 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Just returned from a great AK. cruise on the Oosterdam the weather was warm & sunny all except for a little rain in Juneau. We knew before cruising that the O was having some difficulties they e-mailed us & informed us that arrival into Victoria, B.C. would be pushed back until 7pm. We did not arrive in Victoria until 8:45 pm. The Captain announced that this was because of weather conditions & departing Ketchikan late (we left 5mins early). Clearly she is having mechanical problems & not that she just needed barnacle's cleaned off as some had posted here. In my cabin the vibration was awful at times. We didn't have working air/heat the first night & there was a really bad smell in the bathroom! Both were fixed in about 2 hours. The crew was wonderful! Inside the ship looked fine. Tracy Arm it was a beautiful day and we did make it to the glacier! I am not a fan of Tracy Arm but it was fun passing another ship in the narrow passage way. Sitka 2 ships in port but still a nice day. Boarding not enough porter's at pier 91 to help with luggage. The two that they did have were slowed down because some people didn't pre print there luggage tags. So we all had wait while he went & got tags & filled them out for the lazy passengers! They did have luggage direct available for us. Love the Oosterdam but will wait until the repairs are made to sail her again.

Krazy Kruizers Posted September 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Glad you had a wonderful Alaskan cruise. Sorry to hear that the Oosterdam is having mechanical problems. That is not good to have no air -- and a smell as well.

sail7seas Posted September 10, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Thanks for your review. We sailed Oosterdam and your itinerary in June. We loved the ship/trip and had a wonderful time. We didn't feel any mechanical issues were a problem for us on Oosterdam. :) I think we all knew in advance to plan on arriving a little late to Victoria. Welcome back. Rare erewhon Posted September 11, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Thank you for your review. Which area of the ship was your room, that you experienced awful vibrations?
absolutboy20 Posted September 11, 2012 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Curious to know your room number to see if the vibration issue is indeed isolated to the aft portion of the ship. Was it worse at certain times?
