Just off the LEGEND....

Sigh. Stepped off less than 24 hours ago and I miss her already. I will try and write up a full recap later this week, once we get our pictures sorted out a bit. But in the meantime, if anyone has any questions specific to the Carnival Legend, ask away, while my memory is still (somewhat) fresh!!

We sailed on the LEGEND 2.5 years ago, and I found the ship in more or less the same condition. Maybe a little tired in the public spaces, and there was an annoying flicker in the overhead lights in the Atlantis Lounge that never got fixed. But elevators were fast, food was great, beds were comfy and rooms were quiet, and the staff was as friendly and accommodating as always.

Questions? Ask away. I'll do anything to avoid productive work today. :D

I feel your pain...I've been back from my Legend cruise for two weeks and I still haven't adjusted to the realities of my real life.

I agree with you about the condition of the ship, if you look hard enough you'll find areas where a good sprucing up is in order, however, it did not affect our cruise experience and I LOVED the Legend...the food, the service, the layout of the ship, the common areas (yes, even the urns), the casino, the Taste Bar...everything. I also felt the layout of the food stations in the buffet area greatly reduced lines and waiting times for all the venues...if you wanted just a slice of the carved meat, you didn't have to wait in line behind 10 people who were picking apart the lettuce to find the exact shape and size they wanted or just the right piece of tomato or cucumber...the salad bar was a separate entity.

We booked an obstructed view balcony room on Deck 5 and it turned out just great. Did you visit the Taste Bar on Deck 2? They had some great hors d'ouevres.

Looking forward to your review.

Yep, yep, yep. The ship felt "less crowded" this time, and I think part of that was the efficient design of the buffet stations. Never, ever, ever waited more than 5 minutes for anything.

We had a standard balcony cabin on Deck 6 -- actually we had three of them in a row, and had the partitions opened. It was nice for the kids to be able to go back and forth between our family's 3 cabins, but I dislike how the partitions then block half the view when they are folded back. I wish they could fold back into the walls or something instead of against the railings.

We only made it to the Taste Bar once, and that was for booze, not food. :) They did a tasting of the "Rum Jumper" cocktail one night (though they actually made the drinks in Satchmo's).

How was your cruise director, James Dunn? We sailed with him as assistant cruise director on the Dream twice and are sailing on the Legend in March for spring break? Hopefully, he will still be on it then? Thanks.

We liked him. Clever, funny, always visible all over the ship and super friendly in person.

The Taste Bar always offered a $5 drink special at night...they had delicious meatballs one evening, bruschetta and a spicy soup one night, really good and a nice place to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail and munchies.

We sailed on the Liberty in May and had back-to-back staterooms and had the Room Steward open the divider between our balconies which gave us a huge balcony. We were able to access each other's rooms without going out into the corridor...this worked out great.

I wouldn't hesitate to book another cruise on the Legend, I only wish she sailed to the eastern Caribbean also...I would definitely love to do a back-to-back on the Legend.

Wasn't the Serenity Deck great? We always found a lounge chair available and the bartenders were all nice.

Good luck adjusting to the real world.

Love the Legend talk!

Can you buy more than one $5.00 drink?

I just got off the Legend too. I have copies of the Camp Carnival schedule for the week. It's is a bit worn but I will attempt to scan it in & email it later this evening.

My 10 yo loved Camp Carnival. We had early dining @ 6p & after the 1st 2 nights he never made it to dessert & barely got through his dinner that he wasn't off to the night's activities.

My 13 yo also enjoyed the activities in Circle C. There were not as many teens attending the club activities so often times, they hung out together, talking to each other & Ramon (the Circle C director) instead of doing the activities or they were off getting ice cream together :)

Andoria...as far as I know, you could purchase as many $5 drinks as you wanted.

In addition to different drink specials available all over the ship, they had Bloody Mary's, Bellinis and Mimosa's on sale most days (if not all) from 8:00 a.m.-Noon for $4.25.

Welcome back..look forward to hearing more with pictures.

By any change did you use camp carnival or have the fun times.

If so please.. please email it to me: cmendoza 5790@aol.com

We are going on her in 18 more Sundays..

Cathy

We did use CC quite extensively, for my 6-yo daughter and my 3-yo nephew. They had a blast. Not a whole lot of kids on this cruise, compared to last time when we went during Spring Break. Understandable. But we never left the kids in CC past midnight, and yet they were usually the last two there, often asleep in front of a movie. :)

@ rjrice1 - My 13 yo daughter went to a couple of the family friendly comedy shows . She actually got singled out in one of them & the lady comedian "matched" her up with a teen boy. I got a slight kick out of her embarrassment b/c heaven's knows she thinks I embarrass her all the time just by breathing.

On our days at sea my 10 yo son spent the afternoons & most of the evenings at Camp Carnival. If he wasn't there, the he was at he playing at the pool. For my 13yo Circle C had plenty to keep them busy from about 7-11pm sometimes midnight.

I really recommend talking walkie talkies. It was helpful for the kids to check in when they wanted to go by the Lido deck for late night ice cream!

Cinzano11...the Taste Bar opened at 5:30 p.m., nice area outside Satchmo's and the Sports Bar to have a pre-dinner cocktail and hot hors d'oeuvres. I always carry a drink into the dining room with me so I don't have to wait for the bar waiter to take my order in the MDR (sometimes I finished my dinner before my drink was served). Check the Fun Times every day, there will be a notation there if the Taste Bar will be open and the $5 drink special listed.

MSMAMBO...your stateroom is on the Port side of the ship opposite from where we were. I loved the location, it was a quick walk to the elevators and very quiet. Your balcony will overlook one of the shorter lifeboats just as ours did...looking out at the water, the right side of our balcony was more obstructed than the left because the arm that holds the lifeboat jutted into our vision, whereas the left side was obstructed only by a rope that extends from one arm to the other. The view from the stateroom on our left (5189), looked over the middle of the lifeboat and only had the rope crossing their field of vision. The balcony seemed smaller than ones I have experienced on Conquest class ships and it was definitely narrower. If you wanted to pass someone sitting in a chair, they had to stand up to let you pass in front of them...it was a pretty tight squeeze to get past them if they were seated.
