kiraryker Posted October 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2012 My son tried dramamine last time and it just made him sleep thru the cruise then he tried Bonnie - didn't help - allergic to ginger I'm hoping these work?
CasualGeek Posted October 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Last time we where out on the sailboat, towards the end of the day, my future SIL felt ill, and I keep seabands in the boat bag. He felt a little better after putting one on. He probably should have put them both on.

upstairsmama Posted October 31, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I have worn them while cruising and car riding, never got sick also carried meds but haven't had to use but one time last year after a day and night of rocking I felt a little sick and took 1/2 of med dose and had no more problem. wrigley80 Posted October 31, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2012 My friend wore them on our 5 day cruise on the Elation in March 2011. She said they didn't work for her. I gave her 2 Dramamine and she said those helped so much better. I am an avid cruiser and I take 2 Dramamine tablets the first night and then 2 more the second night and I never have a problem with seasickness or drowsiness
Georgia Peach 4 Posted October 31, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 31, 2012 too tight on my wrists, made my hands balloon up like crazy. I tried Motion Eze oil last cruise, worked great. I used to wear the RX patches, but by the 3rd day I couldn't read the menu they made my eyes do funny things. The oil works fast and well. It has a strong smell, but it's not bad. FrogsMcGee Posted October 31, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I get sea sick pretty easily and the only thing that has really worked for me is to visit the doctor and get the ear patches before the cruise. Never had an issue when I wear them.
andiloveu Posted October 31, 2012 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2012 The seabands work for my son and I. You have to put them on as soon as you feel seasick. It has something to do with pressure points on the wrist. I prefer seabands to being sleepy my whole cruise.:)
All4fun&fun4all Posted October 31, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 31, 2012 It works because it deals with pressure points that when applied have been proven to reduce nausea. They work for me. :)
Dett Posted October 31, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 31, 2012 They work for me but I can't wear them too long as my hands swell. They use acupressure points and that is how they work. Wish they made some that weren't so tight.
EnTnSA Posted October 31, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Luckily I dont, or have never gotten, sea sick. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), which is very similar to (Dimenhydronate) Dramamine acts like a sleeping pill on me and I can barely function. I dont really buy the whole pressure point thing on the sea bands, but if it works for you, that is what counts.

I dont really buy the whole pressure point thing on the sea bands, but if it works for you, that is what counts. There are scientific studies that support that when pressure is applied in the area of the P6 pressure point it counteracts nausea. I know it seems like a bunch of hooey but it really does work if they are applied to the proper position. We have a tendancy to imbibe a bit when we sail and some of the other methods would have me sleeping through my cruise if I tried them. :p
lincoln04 Posted October 31, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I cruised with a group of 18 on the Carnival Magic on September 30, 2012. One of the passengers looked really green the first few hours after we left port. She put on the seabands and they worked a miracle. She enjoyed the rest of the cruise and says she will never cruise without them.
howcaniexplain Posted October 31, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 31, 2012 The sea bands are great. I use them on the ship and on the plane. They work really well for me. I do bring dramamine along, however, for those times when the rocking of the boat is a bit too much for me. Half a dose and keep the sea bands on. fergusonvt Posted October 31, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I have some seabands but used Bonine my last two cruises. I'm going to try them this next cruise because there was a thread a few weeks back about the combination of anti nausea medicine and alcohol. I didn't have any problems last time but others have. irie0518 Posted October 31, 2012 #22 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I am sold on seabands!! I was definitely skeptical going in but I find they really do work. I hate how all medicines make you so drowsy. I do believe they sell both child and adult sizes so depending on your child's age and size make sure you get the proper size as they do have to be fairly tight to apply pressure to the pressure point. Another thing is they are fairly inexpensive so you really don't have much to lose by trying them out.
kiraryker Posted October 31, 2012 Author #23 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Thanks! I might as well give them a try - $6 isn't a bad price if they don't work - but if they do I know it'll make the cruise more enjoyable for him
DSIVRN Posted October 31, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 31, 2012 As an RN, I am always skeptical about "natural" control of most anything-but decided to give the sea bands a try for severe nausea from medication I was taking. They worked wonders for me! I have never used them at sea, as I do not have a problem-but the pressure points they hit were nothing short of a miracle for controlling the nausea! Well worth a try! (Just have plan B ready in case they do not work for you! ;)) Diane Strickland RN BS CRNI
newcruiser1271 Posted October 31, 2012 #25 Share Posted October 31, 2012 I get very motion sick and am going on my first cruise in December. I tried the seabands during a long car trip to see if they would work. Unfortunately they didn't work for me. I am most likely going to have to use the Scopolomine patch.
