Oasis with mom

I am going on Oasis of the Seas with my family (dd, dh, and mom) for Thanksgiving. My mom has never been on Oasis. We have been on once. My mom is almost 80 and walks - but not for long distances. She likes to sit by the pool, read, nap and have her coctails. Is there anything on the ship that should be a MUST do for her? I have reservations for the main show (Hair Spray?), the aqua show and the ice show. We are D+ so if there is any show i didn't reserve that is a must see we can always get squeezed in. I know there are million things to do on the ship - just don't which 500 thousand I should point out to my Mom.

TIA

Is the trip a surprise for your mother? If not why don't you just ask her what activities she would like to do? Since you have been on the ship already you must have a good idea of what is available.

We hit the pool and sports court. She is the type of person who will say whatever you want to do is fine. And she would be fine sitting by the pool all week - but I don't want her to talk to someone on the last day and that person to say "oh did you do such and such - it was the highlight of the cruise for me".

So i guess I want to know what the highlight of the cruise was for the over 70 croud.

We were on the Freedon OTS this April It also has the Cupcake Shop. They were offering decorating classes that one can sign up for. Maybe your Mom would enjoy this. I believe the ship has a game room with cards, board games. Possiblly she could join in one of the card games (rummy, bridge, etc.).

Also, many previous cruisers on the Oasis have posted the Cruise Compass for the week. You might want to peruse them to see what activities are listed that you Mom would enjoy.

Hope you all have a wonderful cruise on the Oasis. We are cruising her next April and can't wait!! :)

Bridge is a GREAT idea! She just started playing last year. She also started playing canasta. Do you know if that is played on the ship?

My mom who went on both the Oasis and the Allure at age 74/75, loved the Boardwalk. Riding the carousel was a highlight (strange, I know) because it brought back childhood memories. My mom did play Bingo once, but didn't quite care for how the cruise ships play. Also, make sure she hits the casinos once, my mom loved playing the penny and nickel slots.

Also, one last mention, visit the Viking Crown lounge in the evening once or twice. She enjoyed the atmosphere in the evenings.

Your mom will have so much fun!

She always find the casino!

We don't always make it to the Viking Crown but we will be sure to stop by this time. You are right - it is beautiful.

I agree with a stop in the Viking Crown Lounge on Oasis. It is the only bar on Oasis where you can sit and look out and see ocean and the bar is beautiful.

Dont miss walking through Central Park and as someone else said, ride the carousel with your Mom and DD. Three generations riding a carousel on board a cruise ship, priceless.

Have a wonderful time!

I hope you don't think that I was trying to be snarky in anyway. When we cruise I always take my parents along too. My mother truly enjoys just doing whatever we all want to do. For her it is all about being with the family and she is up for anything. When she says that whatever we all want to do is fine with her she really means that. So when your mother gives you that answer don't take it as if she doesn't want to inconvenience anyone.

The one thing my mother really insisted on, and someone else mentioned this, was that we all ride the carousel on the Boardwalk. For some reason she got such a kick out of that. As for other things, she is just as happy watching us climb the rock wall as she takes the pictures or watching the parades on the Promenade.

The one thing that she really looks forward to each cruise is, since she and I are very early risers, I knock on her cabin door about 5 AM and, just the two of us, we go get a cup of coffee at the Cafe Promenade and take a walk around the ship and up on deck. That is our time together. No one else is invited (not that they would get up anyway!). And some of those mornings will be the best memories that I will have of her someday.

There is a sign up sheet in the game room - and the cruise line usually posts times for informal bridge play (no instructor) just go the the game room and find a table looking for players.

You may also want to 'get seats' or at least one for mom very early for the parades in the promenade and 70's night.

Thanks for the info on the sign up sheet for cards! I will keep an eye out for it!

And if I knocked on my moms door at 5 am - well she probably wouldn't wake up and if she did it wouldn't be pretty.

If anyone has any other ideas - let me know!!
