Rare Caroldoll Posted November 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2012 I am confused--I saw on the board that it was $50 a person? For a whole cruise?? Then I saw something else higher. Can someone help?

If your interest is primarily wine, there is an alternative to the $30/day & $50/day packages. You can buy some pretty good bottles of wine once on board at roughly a 30% discount. In order to get the discount you need to buy a minimum of 3 bottles. Oceania holds the bottles in their central cellar & The Sommeliers at each of the dining venues are amazing at retrieving which ever bottle you want in a very short period of time. On our recent cruise on Marina, we purchased a couple of bottles of La Crema Pinot Noir which was excellent and held up well for 2 days after being opened. Adding a couple of bottles of Sauvignon Blanc (Caymus Conundrum) rounded out what turned out to be a good selection for our dinners. With the discount it brought the price to less than double local retail - which is pretty good for a restaurant let alone a cruise line. One caveat/minor inconvenience: You must order this the day before you want to use the wines and it must be ordered from the Sommelier.

Rare Caroldoll Posted November 16, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted November 16, 2012 I am still working over this drink package. The last time we were on Oceania each martini was VERY SMALL and $8 each, not including tip. We did have happy hour though and then the martini was a full glass. Does anyone know the cost of a martini now? Also, do you have to show a card?

For alcoholic drinks yes you need to show your card

Rare Caroldoll Posted November 16, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted November 16, 2012 We are light drinkers, but the convenience is a factor. Also, do they charge for bottled water in the Master Suite?
Rare Caroldoll Posted November 16, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted November 16, 2012 answer. Thanks. Also can you buy that drink package in advance or do you do it on the ship?
Souper Crewser Posted November 16, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 16, 2012 What is the sparkling house wine included on the premium alcohol package - is it Prosecco?
JimandStan Posted November 16, 2012 #16 Share Posted November 16, 2012 We are light drinkers, but the convenience is a factor. Also, do they charge for bottled water in the Master Suite? It must have been a while since you have sailed Oceania. There isn't any charge for bottled water anywhere on the ship. You may arrange for the Beverage Package in advance, or on ship, but doing it in advance means that you won't have to have your card redone. And yes, Kettle One is sexy ;)

JimandStan Posted November 17, 2012 #18 Share Posted November 17, 2012 What is the sparkling house wine included on the premium alcohol package - is it Prosecco? That varies dependent on availability and supply, but it is more likely to be a Cava than a Prosecco for some reason. On the maiden voyage of the Riviera they were featuring a sparking Moscato which turned out to be so popular that the Sommelier's began asking guests if they would "mind" champagne instead- Sometimes life is just HELL
scotslizzy Posted November 17, 2012 #19 Share Posted November 17, 2012 If we decide to go with the unlimited package do the selection of wines by the glass differ from those in the GDR? On reading the online info I cannot see any wine by the glass seelction other than the ones for the GDR. This up and coming cruise in Feb will be our first with Oceania and we are still considering whether or not to purchase the drinks package. Thanks Scotslizzy
LaCroisiereS'amuse Posted November 17, 2012 #20 Share Posted November 17, 2012 What is the sparkling house wine included on the premium alcohol package - is it Prosecco? Why go for the house selection when you can have Perrier-jouet champagne, or Mumm Cuvee Napa?? :) But IIRC the house was a prosecco, and if you ask for any kind of champagne cocktail e.g. Bucks Fizz, Kir Royale, Bellini etc, it will be made with the house selection unless you specify otherwise. Rare Caroldoll Posted November 17, 2012 Author #21 Share Posted November 17, 2012 different suites. It is the owners suite. It is the Riviera and looks quite nice. We sailed before and had a Vista Suite on the Regatta...but it was two years ago. Things have changed. At that time they did not have shuttles. Now that they have shuttles, we thought we would give it a try again!
