Raptor2010 Posted November 26, 2012 #26 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I called RCI today to make our plans for the vow renewal on our anniversary. It was $595 for renewal, flowers, a couple of photos, a cake and champagne. Oh no, WAIT! That was last week. Today the $595 includes a 10 minute ceremony.........thats it! You can now get the original package for $1,195!!! Are they kidding me???? The vow renwal was very important to us. There is no way I will pay the $595 for 10 minute ceremony and its not even the captain that does it! I may just cancel this cruise and find somewhere else to go. WOW, you are right. The vow renewal package that we paid $500 for in 2007 is now the Royal Devotions package for $1,195. Everything in that package is what we got in 2007. Geez, that just seems SOOOOOOO wrong. I'm sorry :( We even got a cake AND they did the vow renewal on the second formal night. I noticed in the fine print that they will no longer do the ceremony on formal night. Raptor2010 Posted November 26, 2012 #27 Share Posted November 26, 2012 Our vow renewal was great and I guess we were very fortunate to get all that we got for only $500 when we did. This is my favorite picture because my DH looks like OH CR*P, I did this AGAIN? He never smiles in pictures ;)
datone Posted November 26, 2012 #28 Share Posted November 26, 2012 We renewed our vows (30th wedding anniversary) on Princess in December 2010 and the price was only $250. This included closing off and decorating the library, the captain performing the ceremony, copy of the vows, bouquet for me and boutonniere for my husband, a bottle of french champagne and a waiter to pour it, set of 2 commemorative champagne flutes, box of chocolates, photographer, and 1 free framed photograph. Thought it was really good value.

This is my favorite picture because my DH looks like OH CR*P, I did this AGAIN? He never smiles in pictures ;) Love your dress! Just curious if this was your original wedding dress or if you opted for a new one? I don't think I could talk DH into doing this but it's fun to think about it. In my fantasy planning I'm trying to decide if it would be romantic to wear my original dress or buy a new one. And if I bought a new one what would it look like. Oh I just love planning a wedding! :D

Hstergo Posted November 26, 2012 #31 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I'm just saying, before you bash RCI, what are the going rates on the other ships? I have no idea of course, but I'm sure its competitive and/or based on the ship and venue. How much do you think is a fair price?I was on the Majesty, their smallest ship, last month and witnessed a wedding in the viking crown during sailaway. So who knows. Someone just did a review for it on Carnival they had the Captain, a Photographer, a server, and the coordinator, it included a cake and a keep sake leather covered document and Champagne and it cost $

Big_G Posted November 27, 2012 #35 Share Posted November 27, 2012 I guess I have a reason to bash them. Princess has a much better deal! http://www.princess.com/learn/onboard/gifts_services/celebrations/renewal_vows/index.jsp Not sure why you find it necessary to 'bash' them. So it's more expensive. Buy it or move on to the next option.

MonaCK Posted November 27, 2012 #38 Share Posted November 27, 2012 So - once when I was with a group on NCL, we found out that a member of our roll call wanted to have their vows renewed. The cruise line wanted to charge them something like $1000 for it. My friend who was going on the cruise is an ordained minister. She ended up creating a ceremony for them, my then DH and I took pictures and videos, my friend's husband is a DJ and brought a CD with him of walking down the aisle music, and the rest of our friends sat in the audience and watched the ceremony. I'm a graphic designer by trade, and during some quieter moments while on board, I created a DVD set to music of the ceremony and pictures we had taken for them to take home. I guess what I mean to say by this is - you don't need to have the ship's staff do anything for you. You might even be able to rent out the chapel for a nominal fee, and have a good friend of yours do the vow renewal for you. This is not a legal and binding ceremony, just a spiritual one, so it can be done with the spirit of the heart as well. Just my two cents.

Esmerelda Posted November 27, 2012 #40 Share Posted November 27, 2012 I believe I would do a google search on the islands that my cruise ship was visiting and find out what type of vow renewals they offer. I just sat here and found a few in different locations that were better priced than the ones at Royal. I think vow renewal on a beach is so romantic. I think it's wonderful that the two of you want to do this. Just do your homework and shop around. ;)

celle Posted November 27, 2012 #48 Share Posted November 27, 2012 I don't get the vow renewal thing I guess I'm wierd or something. I have been to a one vow renewal and it was OK. It was in a masonic lodge and they had a lot of good food but the whole thing was kinda odd...really. I sure would not pay money for some kind of commercial affair especially on a cruise ship. The little chapel is rinky dink with a hand full of flowers and a couple of cheesey pictures of an old couple grinning like two jack asses eating briars. $595.00 no way, $220.00 no way just do it yourself like someone else suggested and save the money for something you can use. Really...a vow renewal! Come on man! I'm with you! I don't see a need to renew our marriage vows - we're living them anyway and it's not like they expire! For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health - done all those, and probably will again. DH and I have been married 42 years. Each anniversary, we have dinner at a restaurant, share a bottle of wine, clink glasses and say, "I still love you" - and that is it!
dchillis Posted November 27, 2012 #49 Share Posted November 27, 2012 my favorite pic from our cruise on oasis, and I agree RCI is cheap but for all I know so are all the others. dont forget your own camera!
