That's a really great idea! We love Pedro, he was the CD on our December Star cruise. I know he is going to the Dawn next, but don;t know when he was trasnferring to her. I would sail on whatever ship he is on. ;)

Pedro was our CD on Dawn and Sun. Top notch. His staff was nice too, which included his wife, who was his fiance at the time.

I don't know if I am in the minority or not, but I really don't care who the CD is, or let's put it this way, the CD does not make of break our cruise experience. If she/he is really good we love it, if they are not, we don't really care. We did have Julie on the Pearl this past week, she is fantastic, on our last Pearl cruise we had Andy..He wasn't so great, but it didn't affect our cruise at all and on the Spirit I couldn't even tell you who the CD was. In fact, I bet we only can remember about 4 or 5 of them in 25 plus cruises.

I agree with Nita. We have had some very funny and good CDs. (Example: Matt Baker and John Ibrahim) However, we have also had some duds. (Example: Suzie & Candi) But all-in-all it didn't impact our vacation whatsover. In addition, they change ships often so between booking your cruise and actually embarkation, there is a good chance you won't see them again.

WHY?????

How does the CD control the weather or the ports Im going to????.

Thats all that really matters on a cruise doesnt it????

Obviously to some, it does matter. Some don't cruise for the ports but choose a cruise based upon the ship which includes the onboard activities. I think we can all agree that some CD's are much better than others. It isn't a make it or break it for me and I wouldn't choose a cruise based upon the CD but I think that the CD sets the mood or tone for the cruise. If there is a good CD the cruise seems more enjoyable to me than when you have one that isn't very good or who is down right annoying.

Call me kooky, but if I ever have to have Paul Scally again, I'm running at the first port and not getting back on the ship!

His wife and year old daughter were visiting him on our cruise. Beautiful little girl that Pedro always had in his arms after shows. It was nice to see that side of him also.

In one word:YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still in contact with several Hotel Directors, Captains, Staff Captains, Chief Officers, Cruise Directors, Food and Beverage Directors and Restaurant Managers. Some of them make my cruises very very special especially one Chief Officer.

Why, I absolutely love Paul Scally!!! Just kidding, never cruised with him as far as I know, but then I could not tell you the names of any CD I ever had.

I don't know, something about discussing how well or not someone does their job BY NAME on a public forum doesn't sit well with me and I think that's what we're inviting. But I understand that for some who participate heavily in the type of activities the CD is involved in, a less than stellar one could be disappointing.

No the weather isn't more important then staff crew and senior officers but that is my opinion. The weather although I want it nice is not as important as who is in charge of the ship for me.

Do you get special perks from the hotel director????

No they are friends and it is nice when they welcome you into there home and talk to you . If I do get something extra from them I wouldn't advertise it here because they are friends and I am just glad to see my friends .

Each to their own. I enoy good weather

When I run into crew I have sailed with, I do talk with them, but it is not the reason I book a paticular cruise.

Just like when I fly I dont pick a certain plane because of the FA schedule but I do see some of them on a regular basis and we do talk

The reason I ask about the HD is I have email addys of some CCL Matre'Ds I didnt ask for it but was offered

That way we can get a paticular table or section IE a 2 top or a window table depending on which cruise and who we are cruising with

Instead of us waiting inline to change tables day of cruise, I just email a couple weeks prior and it is taken care of.

+1

It's not a "make it or break it" for me either but a CD with a good attitude and work ethic is contagious and it's reflected in the remainder of the cruise team. Julie from the Pearl (and her team) is the best one we've encountered so far.

My latest cruise had a CD that oozed arrogance and personal righteousness and it was reflected in most of his cruise team. (tardiness & no shows for activities) He announced an 1 hour rollback of the clock one evening at the end of a production show and "mocked" a passenger for challenging him. They realized the mistake after the 1st excursion groups left in the morning without being full. We happened to have breakfast with someone who told us we had 10 minutes to get ready when we thought we had 70 minutes. They finally made an announcement 20 minutes after the first tours left. The CD joked about his mistake at the show later that night but didn't apologize. (I would avoid him on a cruise with many sea days)

Oh I do get some perks but that's not why I sail with them like tables in restaurant and other little things but mostly I sail with them so I can see my dear friends again

I see from reading this thread that there are some who don't understand why someone would want to develop a relationship with certain staff members onboard ship.

My 2 cents...

I think everyone can agree that if you wanted to book a cruise, just about ANY travel agent/PCC can take down your information and secure the booking. Which translates to...Does it really matter who your TA/PCC is? Is there any difference between them? (Answers: "Yes" and "Of course there is")

I also think that everyone can agree that if you take the time to get to know a particular travel agent...develop a relationship...and let them get to know you as well, that you will, in the long run, receive much a much better level of service than if you just book with whomever answers your call at whatever agency comes up in your Google Search.

Now...since we can agree on that, why is it so hard for some to understand that developing a relationship with other people who serve you (HD, CD, F&B, Capt, etc) can also lead to a much better level of service?

I'm amazed by these boards when people who think that their service suffers because they don't have the same waiter every night (so he can learn their preferences) also believe that getting to know anyone else on board doesn't matter one tiny bit.

End rant.

Thank you. They are people too make damn good friends. I personally like different waiters I get to meet alot of people. If I have iced tea everyday so what if I have to ask for it.

On our first cruise Jon Ibrahim was the CD and he was really great! On our last 2 cruises, the ACD have really been the stars - Gio & Richard. Would love to cruise with them again - hopefully they have been promoted or moved on to bigger and better things!

We do a lot of the CD activities, so we enjoy a good cruise staff. Obviously they won't make or break the cruise but they certainly make things fun!
