Stillfrantic,

I was on the Radiance this past Feb. with my best friend Robyn (I think you've met LOL) and the smoke wasn't too bad. There were a few bars that were non- smoking

Sharonna

No non smoking bars only non smoking areas in the Bars and the smoke from the smoking areas does not seem to understand it is like allowing children to wee in the shallow end of the pool discusting habits.

I have to disagree. We were on the Radiance in Dec and the Schooner bar was totally non smoking....at least at that time. Don't know if it has changed back since then, but to smoke, you had to go clear to the back corner of the Colony Club. Don't know if any of the other bars were non smoking or not.

Just off The Legend of the Seas,50% of the Scooner Bar is smoking, it has a low ceiling and it is like a Fog in there. There is no Coloney Club, The Centrum allows 50% smoking although with a high ceiling it is better. The Big Bar on the 5th Deck allows 50% smoking with a low ceiling, and the Bar at the top of the Ship allows 50% smoking. the only non smoking bar is in the indoor pool area but this is not open after 19.00 hours.

Where are non smokers suposed to go to get a drink of a evening, with some music, and not have to suffer secondary smoking, surely it would not hurt to make one of the Bars totally non smoking.

Smoke doesn't bother me one way or the other. But, for those who would like to see a no-smoke bar, do you include this comment on your passenger comment card at the end of the cruise?

A follow up letter and/or email (letter is better) couldn't hurt either.

Just my $.02,

Charlie

For whomever suggested Voyager class for satisfying non-smokers I strongly disagree. I found the Mariner to be quite smoky and from the applause in the theater the first night there were a lot more non smokers than smokers on board. I am a former smoker but also pregnant so had special reasons for trying to avoid the stench and second hand smoke. I found it to be totally unavoidable in the Promenade, particuarly walking by the Champagne Bar. There are those who will say use another exit/entrance - going on the other side didn't make a difference (customer service) - the stench was just as strong over there. And being on Eastern Caribbean cruise had to spend 50 minutes in line to go through customs, which of course wound right by the Champagne Bar, twice. There was no lounge that wasn't riddled with smoke. The cabin hallways wreaked of smoke in the morning and evening. Our cabin did not smell though thankfully. We were also aft and had smokers beneath us - while probably better than being on the side of the shift you couldn't stand at the rail of the balcony or anywhere near it without the smoky smell - maybe it was my fine tuned sniffer but I found myself wishing for non-smoking ship and even noted that on the comment card at the end of the cruise.

Responding to an earlier post......as a matter of fact the smoking outside on the balcony was VERY bothersome! Not only was it annoying while we were standing on the balcony...when we kept the sliding door open to enjoy the ocean breeze and the sound of the ocean we got the smell of smoke along with it!

Smoking does affect people around you - and deep down smokers must know that to be true. Imagine a horrible odor....(like a dirty bathroom) ....now imagine someone blowing it onto your balcony and into your room.

I just can't believe we are still having this argument.

Actually, Carnival received a five year grant from the American Heart Association or Lung Association (don't remember which). When the five years plus a little more were up, Paradise was repositioned and changed to a regular ship. Carnival claims that she did not make as much money as regular ships, so they changed her. Carnival also wanted to try her on different itineraries, so now she hails from California.
yes, Carnival did have the Paradise for several years as non-smoking. However, it has been reclassified as a regular smoking and non-smoking ship due to popular demand.

I think the majority seem to be for non smoking, so why don't they listern to us.

We could make a small concession to smokers who could smoke between ^ and 7 am on the back deck.

↑ .....Yeah, that'll be the day, LOL.

It's not that the majority is for non-smoking. This has just been hashed to death, with no resolve, and I think the smokers are tired of replying to non-smokers who think this is all about THEIR comfort/enjoyment.....

Now as for the original question, I don't think there is a concrete answer, is there? I Mean, all cruise passengers change, and who's to say how many smokers there will be on a given cruise. I know on my recent cruise, all around me, on the balconies, there were smokers, and never did I smell any of it, even though I saw them smoking.

I think a lot of non-smokers make an issue out of this, (balcony smoke) where really, none exist. JMO....

Absolutely!

I also saw a young dude (25-30 years old) in the casino who was having a dip of Skoal (smokeless tobacco) while playing the slot machines. He was using a small plastic cup to spit in, which he was doing as discreetly as possible. I saw two people started cussing him out about how "gross" and "crude", etc. He just smiled and told them to have a nice day.

I got to thinking, if he were chain smoking at the slots, would that have been better? At least dipping snuff isn't hazardous to others' health.

C'mon people...give it a rest. There's just NO pleasing some people. If you want to guarantee 100% that you will not be around other people using tobacco, STAY HOME.
Amen!!!!!! Stop the smoker bashing, we're doing the best we can not to harm all of you people. Give it a rest already.
I am not a smoker, but I would rather be on a ship with smokers than a bunch of whiny, screaming, bratty kids! :D

knucklehead...I didn't have an opinion. I simply asked for information and received great answers from smokers and non smokers alike. It was never intended for anything but to gather information for myself. Seems a lot of folks can't answer the questions but instead have to turn things into a fight, or an ad for gas masks.

Wanted to know if any smokers would have a problem with the smoke being blown back at them.

I am a ex smoker and yes smoke bothers me more now than it used to. However I like to go to the casino.

I don't mind people smoking around me but it never fails when I sit at a table to play someone next to me lights up.

I told my DW that on our next cuise I was going to take our little spray bottle with a fan on top of it into the casino. This way when someone lights up I can just point it at them and have the smoke blow back towards them.

She told me I should not do this she thought it would make the person who was smoking upset. I did not think it would. The fan is not strong enough to blow ashes, and the person somking is not bothered by the smoke so why not have it blow back to them.

Would really like some smokers honest replys to this.

You know what bugs me, I am sitting in a casino minding my own business, smoking, and a non smoker sits next to me (I am already smoking) then starts doing the wavy dance. GO PLAY AT ANOTHER MACHINE, I WAS SMOKING WHEN YOU SAT DOWN.

dei6360 would it be out of the question to tell the smoker it was bothering you and ask them if they wouldn;t mind putting it out. I am a smoker and if someone asks me to put it out. I oblige them. especially if i am on a ship where smokes are soooo cheap.

Again, not a smoker myself, but if that's your solution then you'd better bring at least half a dozen of those gizmos. Good luck.
