A bathtub for me is a necessity. The deciding factor in our choosing the house we presently call "home" - there was a large spa like tub in the master bath along with a separate shower. ;) A large deep soaking tub is better than the jacuzzis in the public areas of the ship. 1. privacy 2. no swim suit required 3. no chlorine in the water For me a long soak in a hot bath is a form of entertainment - bubbles, book and a glass of wine. Ahhh! :) We live in California where "hot tubs" are a way of life. We have a spa in our backyard that uses a chlorine-free water care system that combines ozone and silver ions. Jacquie To each their own :) Even if I liked tubs, which I do not - not even in my house, there is no way I would be tempted to use the tub on any ship (or hotel). Just asking! Personally (and I do speak as a tub person), I would be inclined to think that tubs are cleaner than showers. You can get germs in both. Not trying to start a war here ... If I have a shower, I use the shower. I don't disinfect it first unless it looks really grungy. Likewise, if I have a tub, I will probably use that. Well, I wouldn't say you are being difficult. We do have our preferences and are entitled to them. The reason I asked because I've heard stories about contracting athlete's foot in showers, so it seemed to me if one needs to be meticulously clean, so does the other. It does take more time to clean the tub than the shower, unless you are paying attention to the shower's tiles, etc. -- always depending on the shower's size. Enough of this! If the ship is not returning until April to Oceania, they really won't have much time to renovate I would think? What do you know or what can you infer? Super excited about it and it will take a good year for us to scope out our plans, as we don't want to do ship excursions...except to Cinque Terre...TIPS PLEASE! When Hapag-Lloyd took possession, the color was changed to black.... Otherwise, I understand FDR proclaimed they took great care and not that much interior work needs to be done.... Especially after a long excursion day when every bone in my body is aching. Are there any suggestions as to what to do in the evening, where is the nicest area to relax and what about the spa area? I doubt we will have much time on the ship as the itinerary is booked and really wonderful. I just like knowing details about the ships we stay on and there is nothing on the Insignia specifically and finding photos of it is almost impossible. I wish I could see actually images of the ships. I have been searching. All the restaurants are good it is a personal preference...DH does not eat much meat so we only go to Polo once in awhile (to make me happy) ;) Cozy places to relax ...library, patio (outside the Terrace) deck 4 area Look at the brochure or online photos of the Regatta, Nautica they are all the same ships Even Google the ship names you should come up with a few photo sites try smugmug or photobucket Here is one Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tes, as Jim & Stan posted, it is their intimacy and charm that draws me to them and away from O's newer larger ships. I for one am ecstatic about the return of Insignia -- gives me 3 vessels to choose from when looking at O itineraries. We agree - we love the small ships. We heard a rumour while on Marina that Insignia will be retrofitted with a barista’s and a grill in the Terrace restaurant - do hope that is true. Also heard the furnishings and fittings will be along the same lines as Riviera?? Looking forward to hearing what Insignia is like when it comes back, as maybe Nautica and Regatta will eventually follow suit. This is assuming the rumours about Carnival buying Oceania on another thread on this board are not true. Like the fact that you recognize passenger faces as well as crew faces while aboard. I found passengers to be more polite on the smaller ships than on the larger ships. This last cruise on the Marina I have never seen as many rude demanding people before on a cruise ship. Too many of the passengers have not heard of the three words, please and thank you. Not only did several of the passengers order the staff to do things, they were also ordering other passengers to do their bidding.(particularly on the elevators) I became conveniently deaf when ordered by a fellow passenger to do something for them. Mind you there was absolutely delightful passengers to converse with as well. There was one young teenager who came with Grandpa to help him, and you could not have asked for a more polite teenager. He had fun talking to everyone on the ship and he was so good with his Grandpa. Kudos to both Grandpa and Grandson for treating each other with respect and kindness. As the ship was in "safe German hands" no renovation is needed at all. :D To be honest - Hapag Lloyd removed parts of the casino and the card room and embedded a cosy bar and a kids corner.
