Insignia Coming Back

To my way of thinking, Hapag did a nice job in revamping Martini's. They extended the Bar so that it relates better to the space which used to be the Casino, put in additional seating and installed a huge new dance floor.

The Germans also vastly enlarged the Service Pantry into the space which was once the Photo Gallery, so I'd be surprised if hot food isn't being served in Martini's under their regime.

It will be interesting to see which "improvements" stay and which go.

Thanks for the feedback. How exactly did you find out about the painting etc...are there photos are information anywhere I can look up and read about? Thanks so much. Have you ever done the coasts in Europe during summer? I can look at other threads individually for that I am sure. Just asking...:):D

If you mean "current" pictures of Insignia, there are none to my knowledge. But all three of the "R" class ships are almost identical.

Yes, we have sailed the coasts of Europe - from Spain up to France, the Baltic and a circumvention of Great Britain. Once we were on Insignia up the coastline of Norway to the North Cape.

I would suggest you do a "search" for the exact questions you may have.

Except fumigating the ship from cigarette smoke? :D

Not really the problems you might think. The Insignia, still under Hapag's flag was recently docked in Miami. FDR went on board and reported that she had been cared for very well, and NO SMOKING ODERS were noticed!! ;)

150400.jpgHapag-Lloyd didn't paint the Insignia's hull black. They changed her funnel colors and repainted her main deck "Oceania Blue" racing stripe into a two-toned affair, but that was about it:

columbus-2-martinis-club-dance-floor-replaces-casino1.jpg The room that was the Casino, now has a big Dance floor in it, but otherwise, her interiors are also very much the same.

So, if I understand correctly, there is no Casino on the ship. I find that a little strange but fine by us and we never saw the Casino used much anyhow.

I would love to see the whole area set up as part of Martinis as Martinis gets too crowded on most nights.

Only time will tell what "improvements" are kept and which go as I presume the ship will be in dry-dock for a cleaning/retrofit before rejoining the fleet.

Do you actually use the tub as a tub, take baths?

So I used the tubs but only when we were docked. It was great after a long day and the shower handle was terrific. Never tried it while at sea..... not an option for me.

We agree - we love the small ships.

We heard a rumour while on Marina that Insignia will be retrofitted with a barista’s and a grill in the Terrace restaurant - do hope that is true.

Also heard the furnishings and fittings will be along the same lines as Riviera??

Looking forward to hearing what Insignia is like when it comes back, as maybe Nautica and Regatta will eventually follow suit.

This is assuming the rumours about Carnival buying Oceania on another thread on this board are not true.

Rumours and more rumours . . . a matter of waiting and seeing

Heard from Dottie, while on Auck - NZ cruise that they maybe looking at putting in a Red Ginger since it has had such a great response. Also heard about the grill potential. All speculation..........

Alas, time is taking its toll and my memory is fading. Of course, the hull was never black, except when Renaissance sailed her. After the bankruptcy, she was sailed by Pullmantour, and her hull was repainted after Oceania acquired her in 2005.

  • 2 months later...
As the ship was in "safe German hands" no renovation is needed at all. :D

Because of the fact, that my Spitzbergen circumnavigation on Happag Lloyd Hanseatic was cancelled due to a fire in the engine room during dry dock, I now have the honour to check Columbus 2 / Insignia for 14 days in July.

Perhaps they need a renovation after I left the ship?!:D

Too bad they do not have those walk-in tubs for cruise ships then it would satisfy both groups

I want to try out a tub like that, and a cruise ship would be a great place to do it. I wonder if any lines have installed the walk-in tubs. I would book a cruise just to try out one of those tubs.

We saw Columbus 2 in Lofoten Islands a couple of days ago - looking good but sporting "strange" colors.

BTW, she was the only one in dock - the rest of us peasants were tendering :D

The colours of Hapag Lloyd are really "strange" but when she is back in safe Oceania-hands she will perhaps be sent to drydock to get her "dry" colour again ...:D

There is no perhaps about it

FDR already posted she would go back to her own colours & some work done before returning to service under Oceania
