Best inside cabin Volendam

I stayed in L2664 on the main deck. We were a family of 4 and we had no issue. I am not sure what you are asking or your definition of "good". If you are asking if there are any of the large, square, cabins, the answer is no. Perhaps someone else has more information than the one cabin I have been in.

There are two sizes of inside cabins: "standard", and "large". The standard cabins are teeny-tiny and should more accurately be termed "cabinettes".

Most of the large insides are identical, and are layed out like the outside cabins. They are about 10 sq. ft. smaller than outsides (other than the smaller outsides on Lower Promenade).

There are some (at least a couple I can think of) of what are referred to as the "sideways" cabins. These are significantly larger insides, with a totally different layout. They have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. If you want more info on the sideways cabins, please ask.

Many thanks Ruth - I can get one of these sideways cabins - M1842, M1841, M1854 or M1837 - are any better than others? Do the advantages of these outweigh any negatives? It is a port intensive cruise so that is why we want an inside cabin.

Many thanks

All the cabins you listed are pretty much in the same place, so it's just a question of how many steps away from the elevator you want to be. Me? I want to be as close to the elevators as possible to minimize number of steps. You may not have that concern. I have no concern about noise from the elevator.

The two biggest negatives about the sideways cabins are that

1.) there is no privacy curtain. If someone is opening the door, they should be very, very sure that everyone else in the cabin is either presentable, or out of sight. This is easy to forget to do when one person is returning and the other is inside. A loud knock, and a few seconds before entering is a good idea.

2.) the bathroom opens directly into view of the rest of the cabin. When one gets up during the night, the bathroom light will shine right in the face of the other person. A flashlight takes care of that.

There's a couple of minor (to me) negatives as well, and they have to do with the placement of the beds:

If the beds are together, then it's tight getting by the ends to get to the nightstand area. On one side you have to get by the desk, and on the other you have to get by the loveseat. If people are large, it's tight; smaller people will have an easier time of it.

If the beds are separated, then you can't use the drawers under the beds, as they won't open enough with the desk and the loveseat blocking them.

Personally, I find there's enough storage in the cabin that I don't use those drawers. If the steward is using the closet shelves or floors for storage, ask him to use the drawers under the beds instead, and let you have the easier space.

The positive about these cabins is that they are huge! Where other cabins have the two beds and two nightstands, these cabins have room for a third nightstand (there are only the two, but this demonstrates how much wider the cabin is). You can pass each other without colliding! Also, the closets are separated from each other, so two people in the cabin aren't competing for the same space when getting dressed.
