What about NCL Sun?

I looked at the Sun reviews, but do not see much on this board on that ship. We are thinking of booking for 2014, but would love to hear from anyone who has sailed on Sun recently. We have only sailed NCL twice, but like it!

I'm sailing on the Sun in May.

I'm not used to all of the dining choices and know that some of the ships have changed recently.

Does the Sun still have:

Las Ramblas? haven't heard much about it

East Meets West?

If you don't go to the open MDR upon embarkation, is it the Great Outdoors or the Garden Cafe that serves lunch buffet that day?

Does the fitness center area have nice large showers that can be used by regular (like deck 4) cruisers at no charge?

Thanks!

The Sun is a wonderful small ship (about 2,000 passengers). The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was on Her in November for 10 days and I am going back in 2014 for 21 days.

In November there was an East Meets West and Las Rambles. There is Great Outdoors in addition to the buffet.

I can not tell you about the Spa, but I would imagine that it is open to everyone.

You will have a great time.

Love the Sun! it is our favorite ship!

We spent 2 weeks on her in 2009 circling South America, and I have wanted to be back on her ever since. We just booked the 11 day Southern Carribean on the Sun for 2014 and I'm already counting the days.

What do we love..........? the size: it's perfect for us- not too big- but big enough that there is plenty to do. The crew- best, friendliest I have ever encountered- and on a long cruise you get to know them , and them, you.

Our favorite places on the Sun- in no particular order: The Sports bar, Las Ramblas, Observation Lounge, the Great Outdoors, Windjammer Bar, Casino, the jogging track. We did eat in both dining rooms, and they were both fine.

I guess the Sun just fits us and what we like- on the other hand- I was excited to cruise the Epic, then really didn't like it- too crowded- and too big that you really didnt even feel like you were on a cruise ship. I guess that's why there are different ships for different tastes- thankfully!

Book the Sun and ENJOY!!

I booked for next January and just here to hear what others have to say. Can someone tell what the difference is between the 2 dining rooms? Are the menus different?

The dining room at the aft of the ship is more "dressed up" for dinner, the dining room in the middle of the ship is the more casual of the two. I don't know if the menus were different. We didn't want to haul dressy clothes x 5 people to Europe, so we always ate in the casual dinning room! :)

We loved the sports bar--wings are great!

This is from what I've read here and on the NCL website:

1) dress code is slightly "nicer" for the aft dining room, but both will allow nice jeans, etc

2) everyday side of the menu is slightly different between the two dining rooms - for instance, the steak option isn't quite the same, etc. Same number of options, just cooked slightly differently

3) just read this last night and it surprised me - wonder if it is true? and now I can't find it - but it said that in one dining room the food was cooked in "continental?? or something?" style and our lobster would be broiled while the other dining room was "traditional" and our lobster would be steamed??

4) not sure if the "daily" sides of the menus are exact duplicates or not

Just returned Feb. 6 from a 10 day cruise on the Sun. You will love her. And the crew is so helpful and friendly. The middle dining room is much more relaxed as far as dressing. You can wear shorts there if you want. There isn't a Blue Lagoon on the Sun, but the dining room offers a great selection, some of which is similar to what is served in the Blue Lagoon on other ships.

I'm cruising the Sun next week for 11 day! Reviews I've read are mostly positive and I can't wait.

I had to search to find some threads I know i've read. When in the NCL forum, go to search forum and type Sun 11. Thats what I did and I found lots of pretty recent info, at least from Nov. to present

Here are a couple threads I've read:

West Coast Cruise plus the Panama Canal Cruise-from Vancouver, British Columbia to Tampa Bay, Florida.

We're coming too. I just started a Roll Call. See you there.

Looks like we picked a nice ship. We did 27 nights on the Sky before she went to Hawaii and came back. The Sun is the same size and configuration, almost.

Just got off the Sun sunday after 11 days and all I can say is fantastic. The ship is the perfect size, it doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the larger ship but who cares. She is very clean and in excellent shape, the crew works extremely hard to keep her that way, they are an amazing friendly bunch.

Seven seas dining room is aft on the ship, it is the more formal and doesnt allow shorts. Both dining rooms have the same everyday menu and I didnt notice much difference in the left side either. We prefered Seven Seas over Four seasons. The service in both dining rooms was excellent and so was the food.

Buffet and Great Outdoors will be open on embarkation as well as Four Seasons. They do have East meets West but we didnt eat there this time. LeBistro was to die for. Las Ramblas was hit or miss, they dont open until 5:30. One day I went up at 5:45 and the food hadnt even arrived yet...that reminds me never got my Sangria:confused:

Sports bar open at 5pm and is open until 5am, I loved the wings in Blue Lagoon but didnt care for them at the sports bar.

We had such a great trip I booked her again for next Feb, 10 more days.

Any other questions please let me know

Thank you all for answering my questions about the MDR.

I have 11 months until my 10 day but this making me even more excited! I am so glad I chose this ship.

Can I ask what type of cabins people have been in? I am in an oceanview and was curious if there are any recommendations?
