FlipperRae Posted March 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2013 My brother is a local and he says Humpy's is the place to go in Anchorage!
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2013 We have had dinners and lunch there a few times -- loved it.
bearbait Posted March 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2013 My brother is a local and he says Humpy's is the place to go in Anchorage! I'm local and Humpy's is a whole different experience then Glacier Brewhouse. Nothing about the two are similar except they cook food. I'd recommend both. Casey12 Posted March 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2013 We really enjoyed Glacier Brewhouse.
Northern Aurora Posted March 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2013 We enjoy both the Brewhouse and Humpys, but as Bearbait has already noted the two restaurants are very different.
FlipperRae Posted March 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 6, 2013 As I have zero experience with either Glacier Brewhouse or Humpy's, I wouldn't even hazard to guess if they were at all similar...I was just under the assumption they might be similar given one is a "Brewhouse" and the other an "alehouse"! I only know my brother recommended Humpy's to me (we're hopping on a cruise to attend his wedding in Skagway) and he always seeks out un-touristy places with decent food, reasonable prices and they usually have a pretty "cool" vibe. He hasn't steered me wrong yet!
sdatex Posted March 7, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 7, 2013 We've been to both restaurants . Glacier Brewhouse is a little more upscale while Humpeys is more casual. Both were good, but we liked Glacier Brewhouse better Their parmesan crusted halibut is most delicious! You would do best to arrive early if possible - about 4:30 - 5 pm to beat the crowds. Otherwisethere will be a wait.

Glaciers Posted March 12, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Glacier Brewhouse will look a tad different this spring. They are currently closed due to remodeling and will reopen on March 21.
Northern Aurora Posted March 13, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 13, 2013 Glacier Brewhouse will look a tad different this spring. They are currently closed due to remodeling and will reopen on March 21. Is it a major re-model, or are they just upgrading some items?
Glaciers Posted March 13, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 13, 2013 Is it a major re-model, or are they just upgrading some items? It sounds as though it was primarily the bar and the kitchen area that they were concentrating on. I hope they keep the open visual kitchen. AkSusan Posted March 14, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 14, 2013 As I have zero experience with either Glacier Brewhouse or Humpy's, I wouldn't even hazard to guess if they were at all similar...I was just under the assumption they might be similar given one is a "Brewhouse" and the other an "alehouse"! He hasn't steered me wrong yet! Well, I can tell you that Humpy's will be full of all kinds of tourist come summer. Trying to eat at places downtown during the summer for us locals, definitely takes some planning. I've been in Humpy's during the summer during lunch time and it's standing room only. Humpy's does not take reservations. Glacier Brewhouse without reservations, the wait of an evening can be 45 minutes or longer. misssea Posted March 28, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted March 28, 2013 I called Glacier Brewhouse and made our reservations for the end of July. I couldn't online because it's more than 90 days out but they accepted them by phone.
goinmobile68 Posted April 4, 2013 #19 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Reservations-absolutely! We booked the afternoon of the weekday evening we wanted, but if you can book earlier it's probably a good idea! Loved the food!
WeRockChalkKU Posted April 8, 2013 #20 Share Posted April 8, 2013 How's the parking for either place? Say early evening in July? Thanks,
