Oasis Western 3/2-3/9 Review With Pictures

Recommended Posts

I was on the same sailing of Oasis.

I LOVED your pictures of the ship. When I got home and looked at my pictures I realized I had more "people" pictures and not many ship pictures. It is an amazing ship with so many beautiful areas. Our group of 4 adults commented several times during the week that the "word of the week" was WOW.

We spent one sea day on the balcony that you were on for the sail away. Literally we were the only ones there. We commented several times about "where are all the people" because we didn't find it crowded. Well be careful what you wish for because we found the people the last day during the disembarkation. Our flights were late Sat pm and Sun am so opted for a later departure time. There were significant delays with customs. Several staff told us it was due to decreased number of Customs agents. The lines were VERY LONG (easily 45 minutes not counting the almost 2 hour delay from original time) It really didn't bother us we enjoyed sitting in the comfy chairs by the jogging track. If we had flights to catch or long drive it would have been a different story.

Thanks again for a fabulous review

Wowsers...later disembarkation that day does not sound like it was pretty:eek:

Glad you didn't have to catch an earlier flight. I wonder what time boarding started for the next cruise?

Thanks for reading along!

Been stalking your page as I'm going on the oasis on the 30th!

Just noticed in your signature that you went on the Poly and Legacy. You've looked so familiar in the pictures, I swear you had to have been on one of those with us!

Sarah

This one is for you:

From the poly to oasis....I wonder how many other people have sailed on both of these?!

Have a great cruise!!!

Ooooh, it's amazing to think that Jammers can also enjoy these huge Foo Foo ships, but i love and miss the windjammers! You know that the Mandalay is sailing again in Greneda!? Been on her too and the Clipper. I think the Poly is in Portugal? Legacy and Clipper are scrap metal. :(

I am continuous checking the cabanas, should've booked when i had the chance although to sail with 2 kids, not sure if i'll even want or need it but am trying!

I did see that about the Mandalay...we actually looked at it, but I think it would have been double the cost! I would love to sail on a windjammer-type cruise again some day....great memories from our poly and legacy sailings. So sad about the clipper and legacy!!

Good luck with the cabana!

Christy, awesome, awesome review!! Looking forward to our Western Caribbean cruise on May 25th with a lot of our extended family members, so know we will have a great time! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! You've really increased my excitement and the early morning pictures without a lot of people in them were great! We plan on spending a lot of our time in the solarium as well. Thanks again!

Glad you enjoyed it:). Extended family cruises are so much fun...I sailed new year's last year with 20+ members of my extended family and loved it! Spending lots of time in the solarium is a great plan...it's an awesome space! Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Christy,

Loved your review and all the pictures. We were wavering about an Alaskan cruise and one on the Oasis of the Seas. My young adult children have persuaded me that this ship looks like so much fun, they want me to book it. My question is about reserving shows. Can you only reserve one comedy show per cruise ? It seems like these shows fill up and the stand-by people only have a small shot of getting in.

Thanks,

Eric

LOVED these chairs in the solarium:

There were probably about 8-12 of these in the solarium, and I thought they would be claimed at all times. We were able to use them several times during the week, although we usually were done with breakfast and ready to lounge by 8:30-9:00.

I wonder why they never put those on Allure? We would have definitely loved them. I don't know if the change over from the Solarium Bistro to Samba limits there room in anyway? As for Chair hogs, it does seem to vary from cruise to cruise and possibly time of the year.

I can't thank you enough for your great review! My DH, DD and her cousin and I are sailing on this ship with the same itinerary on August 3. You did such a beautiful job I feel that I know soooo much more about the restaurants, cabins, entertainment and even the cabanas on Labadee.

Thanks again!

Pat

Someone else posted that they are up on the suite sun deck on Allure! I will miss them in the solarium if and when (hopefully when) I get to sail on Allure. I do remember the chair hogging being worse on my explorer cruise, which was late August.

Day 1 continued

We had reservations at Giovanni's table for dinner at 6:30. We ended up going a little early at 6:15 and were seated right away, no problem.

Let me tell you, I think this was the best meal we have ever had on a ship. Now, remember that we never really ate lunch, so we were really hungry, but it was GREAT!

For appetizers, we had Scallops, and also Mozzerella that was wrapped in prosciutto on a little piece of bread. Our waiter asked if we would like seconds of the scallops...um, yes please!

DH had Osso Bucco--said it was phenomenal

I had the 8 oz filet--yum!

We shared a plate of spinach & ricotta crepes--very, very good

For dessert:

Tiramisu

Chocolate Tart

Sorry, no food porn...too hungry at dinner time!

After dinner, we had reservations at 8:30 for hairspray:

We really enjoyed the show.

Normally we crash early on vacation. This time, we vowed to stay up late and sleep in. With that in mind, we stayed in the theater for a 3D showing of the Avengers that started shortly after the show ended. By the time ended it was 1 am and I had been up for 21 hours...so off to bed we went. That's the end of day one...a great start to a great vacation! That's all for tonight as well...my kiddos tend to get up early. I'll be back tomorrow, probably at night when kids are back in bed. Next up: Day 2 (at Sea) Rock Walls and flowrider wipeouts, oh my!

I'm really enjoyong your review thank you for taking the time to write it. My DW and I will be on Oasis in a few weeks. I noticed that you showed up for dinner the first night at 615. Did a reservation that early give you enough time to enjoy the sail away party? I would like to also book reservations around the same time but I want to make sure it's not too early.

So glad you are back, as I can't wait to hear about all the details while I get ready for our April Oasis cruise.

I have had a lot of issues with my sinuses for years so you have my sympathies. I made the mistake last year of getting on a plane (I didn't realize how bad they were that day) and I paid for it.

Have you ever been tested for allergies? I started allergy shots a couple years ago and they really have reduced my sinus infections...my allergies (pollen, grass) would lead to the infections. Hopefully I only have to take them for a few more months.

We cruised the Allure on her second sailing and they DID have the round loungers in the Solarium. At that time they even had clam shell canopies attached to them. However, they are now on the private Suites/Pinnacle sunning area above the Solarium and the clam shell canopies have been removed.

We actually didn't go to a sail away party, although we had plenty of time to enjoy sail away...we started out on the bridge wing, and then headed back to our own balcony...we still had plenty of time to relax before dinner...we actually went 15 minutes early. If sail away is at 5:00, I would think 6:15 or 6:30 would be fine for dinner, depending on how long you need to get ready. Enjoy your trip!

Was this one meant for the Middle Age Drama Queen and her sinus issues? If so, wrong thread:)

You can get in line standby, but you're right, the act is supposed to be the same. On our cruise it was the comediens' first day and one guy bombed horribly, the 2nd night, when we were there, the good comedian took more and they cut the other guy back quite a bit. I guess he re-wrote part of his act, so by day 3 it was considerably better. Our dinner mates were at the first night, we were at the 2nd, they stood in line and went back the third, so we compared notes. FWIW.

I'd love to take my kiddos on Oasis or Allure someday...I think they would really enjoy it! Thanks for reading along!

Interesting story! I wonder who had to make that decision to cut the one guy's time back?

I am on this same trip in Nov. Loving the review, living a little vicariously thru this! As I was reading your review of the night before, I can identify, I am always so excited the night before a cruise I can't sleep worth nothin!!! I have been on 11 cruises thus far and I always think I am not going to get that keyed up...doesn't work..excitement takes over, every time!!!

Thanks for taking time to do the review.

Hi Raven!

We're sailing on the 11/9/13 Oasis voyage as well. Hope to see you aboard!

That's funny, my "kiddos" are now 50 yrs. old!! (We'll be celebrating birthdays on the cruise, even tho they are over, this was the best time for us to go.) Not sure how that happened, since I'm only "29 again" !! LOL Again, thanks for a great review.
