Read this on the RCI board - Venice

Just read this over on the RCI board. We planned to take the bus from the airport in Venice and a taxi from the ship back to the airport after debarkation. This is the first time that I have read of someone having an issue. Suggestions?

The "taxi" they took was a water taxi. VERY expensive. It sounds like a case of the tourists not knowing what they were booking. The price sounds about right for the private water taxis.

Were you looking for a land taxi? Or, you take the "water bus", not the "water taxi." Search the board here for the choices of water busses to the airport.

It doesn't make sense to take a water taxi from the port to the airport, a land taxi will get you there much faster, and for far less money.

There is a more cost effective way to take a water taxi. It's still pricey, but it will drop me off at my hotel door on the canal. And after an overnight flight, it beats dragging the luggage through St. Mark's.

 

It looks like using the venicelink.com website, you can get a private transfer from Marco Polo Airport for 4 for a TOTAL of 95 euros if you pre-book. And it takes you directly to your hotel, as long as it isn't on their short list of exclusions (which you can see in the link below)

I agree, I think sometimes people get caught up in the romantic notion of it. There are plenty of less expensive opportunities to ride on a boat in Venice.
