planb Posted April 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2013 We booked a grantee balcony for early Sept. to Alaska anyone have an idea when you get your room? Our 1st cruise was one and at the doc we were told but that was 14 years ago. Any chance we get it assigned and told to us a couple of weeks before? Pam in CA Posted April 21, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2013 A "Guarantee" cabin means that you are guaranteed a cabin in the category you booked, or better. It could be assigned tomorrow or you'll find out when you check in at the pier. There's no timeline for GTY cabin assignments.

mabell2 Posted April 22, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2013 We booked a guarantee mini suite for our Alaska cruise in June. The day after we paid in full we were assigned a great cabin 2 categories up from what we paid for. We are very happy with the location! Can't wait to go! :)

After tracking several cruises, I've noticed that many cabins become unavailable (assumed GTY assignments) shortly before/after final payment day (75 days out for most), and around 20 days till sailing. From there till sail date, there will be a few more.
vickie_bernie Posted April 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2013 we have a guarantee booking for 2.5 weeks from now and still no cabin assignment. Lately we have gotten assignment about a week prior to sailing but you can get it right up until the day of sailing.

Lately we have gotten assignment about a week prior to sailing but you can get it right up until the day of sailing. if you are really curious, take a look at the available cabins and keep tabs from day to day. On days when upgrades/assignments occur, categories will go from available to sold out or GTY only. I think the general consensus is that the closer to sailing you get before assignment, the better the assignment.
shofer Posted April 22, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2013 We booked a guarantee balcony in July, 2012 for our cruise in May, 2013 and got our cabin assignment after final payment. But we have also received our cabin number months before final payment. So you don't know until it happens. Sue

On days when upgrades/assignments occur, categories will go from available to sold out or GTY only. I think the general consensus is that the closer to sailing you get before assignment, the better the assignment. for our first upcoming cruise we have numerous cabins avail still in all categories but for our 14 days Alaskan it is 100% sold out as a 14 day cruise but still space avail on each of the two 7 day legs. What usually happens here is Princess contacts one of the cabins that is avail on one leg but not on the second and sees if they would be interested in an upgrade then the give us the room. I have tried to guess where we will go but so far in about half our cruises where we have done guarantes (about 20) we are not good at guessing but it is still fun. Normally I prefer to book a specific cabin but often the cheaper priced cabins for sailings that are soon are only sold as guarantees.
TERESAh Posted April 23, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2013 we are sailing this Thursday and just got our cabin last week. Our ship has been sold out for over a month. Our friends still don't have a cabin.
