Shipboard credit and casino

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on a 4 night Majesty this month, and I was going to prebook excursions, but they don't have an option for using shipboard credit, so I will wait until we are onboard.

We used to be able to use it in the casino and get cash to gamble. Anyone know if this is still an option?

Thanks!

Are you talking about "Buying" on-board-credit?

I don't know why you would do this instead of just taking cash for the casino.....

Unless you're planning on needing more than the $10,000 allowed.

I'm pretty sure you can do that. If not in advance, then go to the pursers desk when you get on board.

Hope This Helps.

OBC can only be used once your onboard. It can not be used prior to boarding. You can withdraw cash from the casino. There is a 3% charge to do so.

We have a RCCL Visa and put those points into our shipboard credit to use onboard, you know, for drinks, spas, excursions etc.

In the past we were able to go into the casino, and get say $200 charged to our room (being deducted from our credit) and then gambling with that. This way, if we had say $60 left the last night, we could get it in the casino instead of losing it.

I just want to confirm that we can still do that, as we have a $700 credit for a 4 night cruise, for 2 adults.

Yes, you can still do that but they now charge 3% to take it out as cash for casino use. So if you have $103 left you're all set!! I do that every time ... whatever is left I take as cash.

I've not had experience with this myself, but it is my understanding that onboard credit from the RCCL credit card is considered "refundable". You can simply go to Guest Services on the last night and cash out any remaining OBC you have left on your account. You wouldn't have to pay the 3% fee this way.

You are correct: any refundable obc from any source can be cashed out the last day of the cruise at the Customer Service Desk.

That has always been my experience as well...BUT a friend of mine was on Majesty last week & was told there would still be a 3% fee at Guest Services...not sure if this was a mistake by whoever was working at GS or a new policy...if it's new policy I can see me NOT using my RCL Visa credits for OBC anymore...

Hi,

I was on the Mariner the week of 4/14, and we had $200 in OBC - $100 refundable (RCL Visa), and $100 nonrefundable. We had pre-purchased a lot of things, so did not use all the OBC. We were able get the refundable portion refunded at Guest Services, and were not charged a 3% fee. We were able to get the non-refundable portion in cash from the casino, and for that we were charged a 3% fee.

Thanks!
