tellubob Posted May 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Is there a scale in the workout area on the Amsterdam? Or somewhere?
sail7seas Posted May 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Yes. There is a scale in the workout area on all the ships. I've never found it very useful. The variance in weight was too dramatic to put any faith in it. I tried when ship was moving. I've tried when it was tied up. Then I gave up. :) For years, I've wished for bathroom scales in the cabins of those who want one but I keep getting outnumbered here. Most people don't want one. :)
hvsteve1 Posted May 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2013 I would think putting a scale on a cruise is like having a clock in a casino....nobody really wants you to see it. :p

Krazy Kruizers Posted May 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2013 The first thing DH does when he is on a ship -- check out the fitness area and the scales. Probably once did he find one that was in good working order.
G&G Posted May 11, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2013 If you need an accurate scale use the scale in the medical center.

G&G Posted May 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Do they let you do that? Yes, on our 35 day VoV cruise in 2012, I went to the medical center each week to weight myself, no charge

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted May 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted May 11, 2013 I used the one in the gym to weigh my luggage and it gave me the same figure the one at the airport did. I used the same strategy before I left home and took the bags to my ( very local) gym to weigh. Those balance scales are more accurate than my bathroom scale ( which gave me a 20% error). Watson's aunt Posted May 12, 2013 #14 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Hi On Amsterdam they have a luggage scale on the Promenade Deck (Atrium) Beside the cruise director or Manager I forget what office it is beside. I used it a few times. Mary
Typhoon1 Posted May 12, 2013 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2013 All ships have a scale in the fitness area. I don't know how accurate they really are.
RuthC Posted May 12, 2013 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2013 On Amsterdam they have a luggage scale on the Promenade Deck (Atrium) It's on the Lower Promenade. I wouldn't want someone to drag a heavy suitcase to the wrong deck.

tellubob Posted May 13, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted May 13, 2013 Looking forward to NOT gaining weight thanks to CC! I realize we might gain a pound or two, but have no desire to undermine 2 years of life style change. We are good, but don't have unlimited food choices at home and want to monitor things..... ithaca gal Posted May 15, 2013 #20 Share Posted May 15, 2013 I lost 15 pounds before the cruise so that I could wear the clothes I already owned! I had no intention of dieting during a cruise, but wanted to check my "progress" once in a while. I used the scales in the fitness center and found them to be very unreliable. My advice? For what it's worth ... eat whatever you want and walk, walk, walk -- in ports and on the ship.
