localady Posted May 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2013 So many of us are headed into Vancouver in the next couple of months. I have read Tripadvisor and other publications, but I would be so grateful if our local BC HAL cruisers could share the names of some of the places they would eat in if downtown. Top class is fine, but I really would like rather find places that have good food and that HAL locals like for a meal. Many, many thanks in advance for any and all advice!! shrimp56 Posted May 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Oops I'm not local, but this is what we did. I'd also research on opentable.com as they have a lot of information in a compact form.We stayed at The Metropolitan Hotel, just up the street from Canada Place so our meals were in that area. We ate at Diva in the hotel. It's moderately high end with very creative food. It was both interesting and delicious. We reserved on opentable.com http://www.metropolitan.com/menus/diva/dinner.pdf We enjoyed breakfast at Bel Cafe http://www.belcafe.com/ David Hawksworth's "baby" restaurant next to his Main restaurant, Hawksworth. The cafe is in Rosewood Hotel Georgia We walked in for dinner at Joey Burrard Grill/Lounge. The menu was very multi-cultural and was quite tasty. Outdoors is very popular, but indorrs had interesting decor and was nice and quiet.http://www.joeyrestaurants.com/burrard Hope this gives you some ideas. We ate there a few times based on recommendations in the hotel's Trip Advisor reviews and from the concierge. The place is quaint and clean, the food was fresh and delicious, and we couldn't believe how cheap our meals were! KK
SJSULIBRARIAN Posted May 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Over on the Ports of Call - Canada - there is a thread on restaurants in the downtown area. I know because I was looking for some within walking distance of the Marriott Pinnacle.
Rowsby Posted May 24, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2013 We had a great breakfast at a White Spot restaurant....1616 W. Georgia Street... Their lunch and dinner menu looked good too.....
localady Posted May 24, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Thanks to all who are answering....:D I know there is a area in the port section for this, but I really had hoped to get input from the folks I know, my HAL "family" !!! I love good "pub grub" if you will vs. higher end dining when we travel. Nothing like a pub, cafe, or trattoria to make this girl happy. I find that's where you meet the locals!
taxmantoo Posted May 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2013 The Brew Pub ... a few minutes (4-5) from Canada Place. Home of the SteamWorks Brewery. http://steamworks.com/brew-pub p.s. I am not a shareholder :D Just a happy and repeat customer on many work related visits to Vancouver. ;)

Also, Cardero's Coal Harbour is a nice spot. We had a good lunch there, I'm sure it's good for dinner too. http://www.vancouverdine.com/carderos

localady Posted May 24, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Steamworks is a very popular restaurant, they have no reservations available after 6:00 for the night we want even though it's 2 weeks away! As we fly in at 4:00pm, that will not work. Any other suggestions are welcome!
CowPrincess Posted May 24, 2013 #12 Share Posted May 24, 2013 If you get a chance, and a desire for street food, check out Japa Dog.... hot dogs with an Asian flair. They were the food hit of the 2010 Olympics.
obriendan Posted May 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2013 We're not Vancouver natives but have been there several times pre- and post-cruise. Three times we have eaten at Joe Fortes and really enjoyed it. It is at 777 Thurlow and within walking distance of Canada Place. Dan
John Cruise Posted May 24, 2013 #14 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Cactus Club is great, beside the Convention Centre, which is beside the cruise ship terminal. Outdoors or in, great view, prices and food. JC

They were delightful. :)
Rare sunviking90 Posted May 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted May 26, 2013 We live in the 'burbs, but when we do get downtown we love Yew in the Four Seasons Hotel. They have a great brunch menu and dinner is good also. Here is a link to the most recent restaurant awards by Vancouver Magazine: http://www.vanmag.com/Restaurants/Vancouver_Restaurant_Awards_2013 We also like Milestones for a good medium priced chain with good food too. There is one on Robson street I think. Oh, and for the best coffee, latte, etc Cafe Artigiano is great! I like Starbucks, but I'll walk a few exta blocks for this place. There are about 3 in the downtown core.
