Rare Hlitner Posted March 22, 2019 #451 Share Posted March 22, 2019 I will post my own (and DW's) position on the issue. We have done a lot of cruising (for many decades) all over the world on many different boats/ships. We have been in inside cabins, outside cabins with portholes, outside cabins with windows, balconies, and even some suites. Given a choice we would always choose a cabin with some type of balcony! If that is not possible or outrageously priced then we would choose an Outside Cabin. Insides are our last choice because it feels like we are living in a closet :). But, if the only way we could afford to take a cruise was to book an inside...then we would do it! Hank
Rare babs135 Posted March 22, 2019 #452 Share Posted March 22, 2019 Well done for reviving a post from 2013!! However, the question is still a valid one. We choose an inside cabin purely on cost. By doing so we are able to cruise more often and I'm sure no one will argue with this reasoning. Having said that if we are travelling with our adult DD we will now be booking a balcony simply because she has decided she is too old to shin up the ladder onto the pull down bed. She says that they are surprisingly comfortable but age has become an issue!!!
Robinhill Posted March 22, 2019 #453 Share Posted March 22, 2019 i always get an inside cabin as well for the same reason- i would rather spend the savings onnexcursions, the spa or st ghe casino! i dont spend much time in the cabin (sleep, shower) so a balcony is lost on me in any case. sydbarrett Posted March 28, 2019 #454 Share Posted March 28, 2019 I just booked my first inside and I'm a little nervous but I can't justify paying more than double. I think it depends on who you are travelling with and what type of trip you're looking for, and of course cost. If you are a couple who likes to have alone time together, a balcony is very romantic (mind you, other balconies are in close proximity). I think if you have small children who will nap or go to bed early, a balcony would be well worth it bc you can sit outside and not be couped up in the room. There are lots of tips online for making an inside cabin more comfortable - I think the best one I've seen is bringing electronic candles so it is not pitch dark, especially if you need the washroom at night. Although I've yet to experience an inside, I know it will be better than no cruise at all 🙂 Oddly enough, I never open the curtains when I'm in a hotel room, so I really shouldn't care! Just worried about seasickness.
Markanddonna Posted March 29, 2019 #455 Share Posted March 29, 2019 We book mostly insides now and please don't feel sorry for me! I've stayed in a penthouse cabin, balcony, OV, obstructed and insides. The secret to making a good decision is that BOTH or all of the paying passengers in your cabin agree with the choice. Kids who don't pay don't get a vote. We enjoy the features outside of our cabin more than we do the cabin itself. I prefer to cruise more often and to spend the funds on excursions. The ship is just very nice transportation to us.
h_blond2 Posted April 2, 2019 #456 Share Posted April 2, 2019 They aren't my favorite type of cabin, but they don't bother me. I sleep so well in them!
Desert Cruizers Posted April 3, 2019 #457 Share Posted April 3, 2019 I am one who prefers the balcony cabins and as far as sleeping, prefer to open the drapes some to let the natural light in and it has never bothered my sleeping or the daughters as we are now cruising together more. Before going to bed and weather permitting, love to sit out on the balcony for a short time.
