Brian - Still no signs of what is going on behind Getaway. They probably already did the keel laying and have not announced it yet. You will recall they announced the steel cutting after the fact.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying that they will prolly wait until the getaway is out of the dry dock before keel laying. Then I remember when they did the keel laying for the oasis and allure the keel never touched bottom during the ceremony. Only time will tell

Just to circle back to the 3G thing. Anyone have any idea what a 100mb means in hours of internet terms?

Also I think if people use these sort of plans it my relieve some of the traffic on the ships wifi and make it faster.

I read on the main board that allure offers an unlimited wifi package. Anyone have any info on this?

We purchased the unlimited WiFi package on Allure on our recent sailing. It cost $149 and only 1 device can be connected at any one time.

Would it be fast enough to stream a movie. I watch a lot of soccer and I am wonder if I could stream a live feed. No biggie but it would be nice if I could. :)

I was on NCL Breakaway earlier this month and they have an app called iConcierage that you can download to your iPhone or Android device. On board the ship you can connect to the ships internal wifi network for FREE and use the app to check your account, make restaurant reservations, look at the dailies, etc. Of course if you want to use the internet to get to the outside world you have to pay for the privilege. For only $8 for all 7 days you can used the phone to send text message or make free voice calls between devices that also have paid the $8. This service worked great for a few days but then they had some issues and it stopped working the last few days.

I am wondering if RCCL will put something like this on Quantum. When it works, it is a nifty feature and makes it worthwhile to carry your phone. We had a large group and texting was a great way to communicate. It also means you won't need to carry the Compass around since it is at your fingertips.

Has anybody heard about RCCL planning something like this? Makes a ton of sense (so they probably won't do it!).

its will be a a 2014 ship I have to think they will up their technology offerings. If they can build a north star the can make an app that works!!

I don't think North Star was all that hard to make, a crane arm with a ball.. Royal's IT department leaves a lot to be desired.

Call me old fashion but computers and phones

are the last thing I want to have access to on a cruise, but that's me.

Tina

Oh I think its handy in case of emergencies and keeping up with things at

home but that is about it on a cruise / holiday .

In my case that's about it full stop, in the case of phones.

I have been a lurker on FaceBook since day 1 ,but recently bit the bullet and

got around 30 mainly real friends.

It soon became clear who just put anything on FB and that's fine , but they

have all been banned from chat .

Working well and will get an FB app for my Android phone.

So far we are addicted to built ships, searching for any info on unbuilt ships, echnology and "string! ". What a group!!

Should really get interesting when the casino and beverage packages are announced. :)

CASINO?? CASINO?? Did someone say casino??? There will be a chair at the black jack table with my name on it and you all can find me there every night while DH is at the roulette wheel!! Our last cruise all the pit bosses knew us by name after the 3rd day. The did NOT like it when Mike hit 1 number 3 times in a row!!! :D And then kept hitting on other numbers!!

I remember one cruise I was on and I was in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and got a call from a headhunter for a job! I laughed so hard when I answered, especially when they wanted to schedule an interview the next day. Probably not! LOL :p But we just tell our family that there will be NO emergencies, no deaths, no nothing while we are gone, that's the rule. If the house burns, let it. We will deal with it when we get home.

But I will have to say though, this is why we didn't cruise this past Feb. My DH's mom has cancer and we want to stay close to her.

I shut my phone off once I get onboard, place it in the safe for the week. If they had an app that u could use for scheduling appointments, excursions I would just put it in plane mode.

I tell everyone I'm I unreachable from this day to this day, I will catch up when I get home.

I do the same now since I got that call. I don't care if the world crashes down around me, I'm on vacation and I'll deal with everything when I get back.

Alas, I'm self-employed and my business follows me so connectivity is not only desirable, but a real necessity. That being said, I LOVE my boss.
