dedosr Posted June 14, 2013 #30 Share Posted June 14, 2013 I always enjoy reading what you post, but now it is even more special because I can now put a face and a voice with what you are saying. This is possible cause I watched you on the Love Boat Show. Now if we all could get a picture of Dave, that would be great, since he has started what I consider one of the best most informative threads ever. I think we would love to associate a face with dmwnc1959!!
Mom33 Posted June 14, 2013 #31 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Yikes, what a scare about Mrs. Shogun"s purse! Glad it was found and you are on your cruise. May the rest be free of stress.:) Bon Voyage

Wellpark Posted June 14, 2013 #33 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Hey Shogun, From a fellow Scot living in Greenock, I can understand your love of cruise ships and cruising.... I hope you have a fab time and I look forward to your positive reports that will hopefully be a bit more balanced! I am pleased that you managed to negotiate your stressful start to your holiday. I am sure those worries are a distant memory now that you are on the ship - just another story to tell:D Have a great one Wellpark
diverward Posted June 14, 2013 #34 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Interesting about the knife. ;) Same thing happened to me. I had a small dive knife (2 1/2 inches) with me. It had a blunt end and not sharp at all. But security said no I cannot brig it on board. They will keep it at the gangway and when I go ashore to go diving I can retrieve it at the gangway and return it back to them for safekeeping. I then asked what about the steak knives in the dining rom and they said it was already on the ship so it doesn't count. Funny !!!! One good thing though, at every single port of call I was the first person off the ship every time. Shogun, great reporting. Looking forward to hearing more from you !!!!! Bogof1 Posted June 14, 2013 #35 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Enjoy your cruise Shogun. Looking forward to your 'live'. We too stay at west quay premier whenever we go to southampton. I' m glad Mrs Shogun likes the shops, so so convenient. Watched the live naming yesterday, was considering driving across the Isle of Wight this eve to wave her off but totally forgot we have the Isle of Wight pop festival and as all roads here go through Newport have reluctantly decided we don't want to hit the traffic! Shogun Posted June 14, 2013 Author #39 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Hi All Been reading the patter public lounges and facilities indoor areas are non smoking so does this mean a smoke free casino Design issue fault the sockets in the room are to close to the desk top plugs with cable coming from bottom do not fit might just be a UK plug issue using. Plug in shower room Shower room is small but oddly the wash basin and counter top are big may be could be smaller to give more turning space Shower looks a few inches bigger but overall feel is not for larger folks TV not working but have call in so expect it will soon Mini bar waiting for us but fridge more like an oven will see if it cools down or might need to call for this Overall past Princess passengers appear to love the ship Lifts are full but expect this will pass once all onboard No central stair case takes a bit of getting used to as our cabin is mid ship Yours Shogun Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
silverbird Posted June 14, 2013 #40 Share Posted June 14, 2013 I finally had the time to watch the entire Royal Princess naming video. I even got a little emotional near the end!! Loved every minute of it. DH and I are booked on the November 10th sailing and can hardly wait to board her. Thanks for the reports as we will have an idea of what to expect. We turn Elite on this upcoming cruise also. Woohoo!!! The one thing I am not happy with is that the balcony on the regular mini-suite appears to be extremely small. Can you check this for us? Deeply appreciated. Fair winds and calm seas to you and Mrs. Shogun.

Was on the ships visit on Wednesday and all balcony's we saw, less the owners suite were small. The mini suite had two chairs and was big enough to have a round table as well. Foot stools were slotted under the chair seats but you would have to move table into room to use foot stools if two individuals on balcony. aimhigh Posted June 14, 2013 #45 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Hi Everyone, rather than start a separate thread, I hope you won't mind me sharing my thoughts alongside Shogun's. Last night we were treated to an excellent firework display which we watched from our hotel room. Boarding was very busy, with everyone given letter-coded cards as they entered the terminal. We then had to wait for some time before staged boarding by letter card. One (false) reason floating around for the delayed boarding was that Her Royal Highness had stayed on board last night, but this wasn't true. Security was very 'keen' and they visually checked my small Swiss knife which was packed in my suitcase. Once on board we headed straight for our cabin - a deluxe balcony on Emerald Deck. First impressions were that it is a cut down mini-suite! Ample space with a sofa and dressing table/desk. Not many draws for storage though. Big wardrobe and good sized bathroom but I don't like shower curtains. Sadly the balcony is not impressive- too small really. But on balance, given we usually book mini suites, I would be happy with this cabin for two. I would think hard though about the balcony. Next stop, horizon court. This is really nice. In fact the decor on the ship is to a very high standard. Silly us found the salad bar and ate from there, missing the hot stations completely until later. The food was std, and good. No complaints. Lots of service with smiles. When we did find the hot stations I was pleased I missed them - far too many nice things to eat!!! Yes, horizon court is much improved. Next we had a quick tour of the shop beginning with the Spa.... More in a moment.
