WE have just booked Westerdam and want to know if we are able to bring spirits (bottle of gin) onboard when we embark in Fort Lauderdale. I know you can bring wine on but cant find any threads about spirits....

"Able" or "Allowed" - two different things! Beer and alcohol ("hard liquor") are not supposed to be brought on board. If you are caught, they will take it away from you and return it at the end of the cruise. Some people have said they've gotten away with it, others not. Are you a gambler? :)

From Holland Ameica's website:

Can I Bring Alcoholic Beverages Onboard?

Except for wine and champagne, guests cannot bring hard alcohol on board for private consumption. Hard alcohol purchased on board in the duty free shops or in port will be collected, stored for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.

Guests can bring as much wine and/or champagne as they choose on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board and in a public venue they will be asked to return it to their stateroom.

Room Service offers reduced-price stateroom beverage packages for in-stateroom consumption of alcoholic beverages. A 15% Service Charge on all beverage items and packages with beverages will be added.

See previous post.Only wine is allowed to be brought on board.

We have brought a bottle of whiskey on board in our checked luggage and have had no problem but it is a gamble.Don't put it in your carry on.

J suggest you check out the alcohol packages that can be pre ordered and delivered to your cabin.A 1 litre bottle of gin is reasonably priced. We did this on our last cruise as we had to watch our weight allowance on tthe flight to FLL.

The sad part isn't the pricing, it's the selection. Jose is the ONLY Tequila?? How incredibly sad is that! I guess I'll be gambling.

Yikes..... the beer selection is just as bad. Not a single decent beer on that list!! (sorry- Heineken in this country is only drinkable on tap.)

Isn't HAL based in Seattle???? There are so, so many good beers produced in that city. HAL could at least offer one of them.

HAL will order anything you want. Call ships services. My rum is only $30 a 1 ltr bottle. Super cheap.

Thank you for that info. I wanted to order a bottle of Laphroaig as a surprise but it wasn't on the list. Now I'll just call and ask closer to the time.

If I walk into the showroom with a glass of wine, how do they know if I brought it from my cabin or if I bought at at one of the bars?

Not true. I asked if they can get Belikin beer form Belize, Presidente beer from Dominican Republic, or Mack and Jack African Amber from Washington State. The answer was, no.
