Hi,

Anyone know what is the latest check-in time is for Venice departures on Nieuw Amsterdam. It's one of those cruises that boards one day, stays overnight in port and leaves 1200 the following day? Thanks.:)

You can check in around the clock. "After hours" in the terminal you will be checked in at the front desk on board.

I would check directly with Holland to be sure.

I did just that as we are on either the same or an identical cruise. They basically said you can checkin whenever you want on the first day. The normal checkin process is in place until 8:00, after that you have to checkin at the front desk. Not sure how the front desk would work as you don't have a card to get on the ship. Maybe a crew member escorts you? Anyway, I wanted to be sure we would be ok arriving around 6:00 and we are.

That's good to know. The reason I asked is that we are already booked and staying in Venice until the day of ship departure. The cruise was an afterthought and a bargain! I also don't want to lose the whole second day at the hotel. It was pricey! That way we can use our second hotel night as a base but leave in time for terminal check-in before 8pm the day before setting sail. Thanks for your help.

I've just called HAL. I got pretty much the same answer but with different times. Why is it you can't often get a concrete answer?!

Anyway, they said that normal terminal check-in would be available until "about" 1800. Thereafter, as already stated, you board with the other passengers as if you are boarding from a day out in any port. You wont have a keycard, but someone assists at the ship entrance and you check-in at the front desk. You can check-in via this manner apparently until about 1.5 hrs prior to sail away the following day.

Hope that helps someone. I just wish that the answers given over the phone would sound a little more convincing!:D

Could you possibly "check in" and leave some of you baggage during the first day and get that over with? Then you would have a card and be able to board at you leisure sometime before 11:00 on departure day.

I think that one would completely bamboozle HAL!:D

However, if you check-in fully and drop all your checked luggage the day prior to sailing, then keep what you need/want in a piece of hand baggage, you are just a fully checked in and boarded passenger that's going out in Venice and returing via the gangway and xray with a bag. I don't see that being any issue at all.
