Maxi dresses for the vertically challenged???

I'm 5'4" and I absolutely love maxi dresses - they are easy to pack and come in so many different styles. Here are two of my favourite, but I have many more. I'm also in Canada so I'm very familiar with Penningtons and Addition Elle, but have recently gotten a few of my maxi dresses from Old Navy, Marshalls, Winners, Smart Set, Gap. One store I never thought to check before but have bought about 6 maxi dresses from there this year is Forever 21! They have a plus size section and they have wonderful prints. I'm very fluffy too, but have started to venture into other stores and am surprised to see what is able to fit me.

And I just ordered these 2 dresses.......I like the styles and colors of

both:)

One is a maxi and the other is the "hi-lo" hem........

Found them on the Chico's site....the blue stripes? I think that one

will elongate me a bit;)

Both on sale and I had a 25.00 off coupon too.....they are being shipped

and if they don't work? Both stores are within a 5 minute drive of my home.

I can return them without any issues.....will let you know how they fit!

The hi-low dress shown is not a maxi so that would work. For those who are vertically challenged I would suggest not ordering a maxi hi-lo online...you need to try it on because if the back is too long it could be challenging to hem.

So I did a 'walk thru' at our local Pennington's last night (while son was at the gym) - lots of nice stuff and on sale too :)......but no luck with the dresses - only a couple of maxis and I didn't really like them at all - a few short dresses also - but nothing that caught my eye.

 

I did get a pair of yoga pants (petite) and the fit well - and a t-shirt on sale - but it is too big so I will try to get a smaller size....

 

Still on the hunt for the perfect maxi! :D:D

Although I am not "fun sized" as my petite (4' 9") best shopping pal calls herself. She has taught me a bit about shopping for the fun sized gal.

 

Unless there is pattern that would be ruined, consider a dress that is to long. Most dry cleaners will shorten for around $8.

 

Make sure that there is no patterns that draw the eye over areas you want to not show up. IE Huge boobs, big bottom etc. Because it will only draw in the attention to those areas.

 

Accentuate the positive. If you have a nice neckline... Don't be afraid to show it. Then no one will look at a large middle, lope sided hooters etc.

 

Last, don't be afraid to find a short dress in a regular or tall size if the top part fits well.

 

Dresses are so forgiving and versatile. Go for it!

I have tried some Empire styles and I hate how I look in them:eek:

Others seem to flatter me much better so, like everyhthing else,

I just have to try them on first:)

This eBay store has great prices and has some Maxi dresses that are tea length.. I am only 5'4" and love the mid-calf length. Also these dresses have spandex, so it makes for an easy fit and are super comfortable!

 

I noticed this dress is only $13.99 today on sale! crazy!

Oh fooeey......I just got both dresses and neither one of them worked:eek::(

The maxi blue? The straps did not work and I tried 2 different bras

with it.....the straps do not fall across my shoulders right.

The red one? I just didn't like how it looked. The length on both dresses

were fine. Neither one was too long. Oh well:rolleyes:.......I just returned

them to the Chico's store and they issued me a full credit.

Oh, darn! I have a bunch of crossover tops like the blue dress and I sew the crossover together(in the place that it intersects)...it keeps the bra from showing and makes it fit better.

Hi Sharon:)... I don't sew.....and this was more like the straps were

too narrow on each shoulder AND there was also a gap where your

bra would show......these were not crossover straps....I mean not

like an X....the dresses just didn't work for me.

Too bad. They would have been great for a Bermuda cruise. At least you were able to return them quickly and easily.

Thanks girls:)..Oh, there is no way I could have worn the maxi...the top

looked totally wrong:eek: and as for the red? It fit me fine....I just didn't

like the way it looked.

 

As to Bermuda? Thankfully I have a closet with dresses that I

can pick from:D

I am only 5'2 and I wear them all the time. I love maxi dresses! I find a lot of mine at Ross for $20 and under usually.

Well, I ordered a new skirt today.....yes, it is a long skirt;) it is longer in the picture LOL.....I ordered it an Petite, XL....I am on the shorter side but not thin.......

 

This is a picture of it....I am a BIG PURPLE girl:D and I have the perfect top for it........lets hope the skirt fits.
