Details on the NEW 2016 ship!

For those of you who have not heard yet, there has been some information unofficially released on Carnival's new 2016 ship. Here we go...

 

1. There will be no large Atrium - only 3 decks stopping at deck 5:

2. Deck 4 will have the Casino from the existing conference room to the Blush Dining Room as exists on Breeze;

3. Ship will be approximately 21 feet longer at bow and 30 feet at aft;

4. It will be the same width as the Dream Class;

5. There will be 3 pools (with a 1/2 in 1/2 out pool where the current Limelight Lounge is on the Breeze);

6. More cabins with a capacity of 5,100 persons (an increase of 400 persons from existing Breeze);

7. Cabins will be in existing empty space above deck 5 of Breeze Atrium;

8. Deck 5 will have a number of "specialty" restaurants (paid) with a variety of themes;

9. There will be a "Crew Serenity" area at bow of ship with same style chairs, hammocks etc. (no spa) like the existing Serenity areas on board Carnival ships;

10. It will be around 5,000 tons heavier than existing Dream Class (130,000) and will most likely be called Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Vista, or Carnival Splash, most likely Sunrise!

 

All of these are rumors that I have heard. Much of this will probably be true (reliable source) but some of it may not be true.

I've only been on the Dream and I am going again on the Dream next week. But this doesn't sound like an improvement. They will be adding pool space, but taking away Atrium to add more cabins. So more people, no more space. They will add more paid restaurants, which would mean less public space. One thing I didn't like about the Dream was the indoor spaces all felt confined. Taking away the one large place isn't the best bet, imo.

When you say no spa... you mean no Cloud 9 spa area like exist now on Dream, Breeze and Magic? Love the spa area.

Stuff that will interest my son as he will be college age+ otherwise doesn't matter to me.

 

Don't care for specialty restaurants... if I did, I would still be sailing NCL and not Carnival.

While we enjoyed the Dream and Breeze, it always seemed to have that crowded feel. Now they`re gonna add more pax-No thanks...

I don't know how I feel about this. I love the atriums on the ships, and to take that area away and add cabins...ugh. I am also not a fan of all the specialty dining areas. But oh well. There are plenty of other ships, and if I don't like this one, I don't have to sail it!

I think that the additional pool and better use of wasted space on a "Dream Class" ship is a vast improvement as when I sail Dream I was not impressed at all....IMO.

No spa area for the crew. Not sure about basketball court, ea sports yet. I also don't care about specialty restaurants. The lack of specialty restaurants is the reason I cruise Carnival, too

Re the ship: I'll pass on that too. From the way all these rumours are describing it at least.

I think that the additional pool and better use of wasted space on a "Dream Class" ship

is a vast improvement as when I sail Dream I was not impressed at all....IMO.

It's hard to beat the VALOR and GLORY size and layout.

Both ships we've enjoyed thoroughly!

In the place we shall never mention there is group already going for the Carnival 2016 "mystery ship" And yes I can confirm that the new build is going to be different then the Breeze and Dream class. larger by 5000 ft.. so 135,000 with all the bells an whistles of the Dream class but a few extras thrown in for good measure.. but a lot of the info you have put in your post has yet to be confirmed.. John will be releasing the name of the ship soon and I can confirm that there has been a registration for the name Sunrise for a 2016 new build by Carnival Corp.. but all this a side it still remains a "Mystery"

A pool on an extended deck 5 aft would be a very interesting addition. That alone would do a lot to decrease the impact of crowds on the ship because it will draw more people to the lanai.

 

The design has the potential to spread out crowds across the entire ship if the specialty restaurants offer lunch service like on the Sunshine. That would make deck 5 a deck you can hang out on for most of the day.

The casino leads right up to the MDR?

 

Surely not. The Casinos are so smokey, I don't really care what they say about "certain areas in the casino". My husband would never consider going on a ship that had the dining room or any restaurant for food service but especially MDR immediately next to the smokey casino.

 

I think I must have gotten that wrong. I hope indeed if not, it is just a rumor. That personally would be a deal breaker for us. (As in, we don't really care if people go to the casino as that is up to them, but we do not like having to walk thru the smokey casino on the promenade deck and now it looks like it leads straight to the MDR?) If the Breeze is like that, I'm glad we didn't go on it. Dream was bad enough. Sometimes I would just go all the way down to deck 2 and go across under there (dodging housekeeping carts) cuz at least it went from aft to stern (and not a can't get there from here situation).

I don't know if I like that design or not. I'm still studying about it. Lol. I was hoping for smothing totaly unseen before. I would hope if it is true no atrium that they would have the glass elevators that go up down the outside of the ship. One ship has those (not carnival).

I thought the next Carnival newbuild was to be a completely new design, not yet another tweaked Destiny/Conquest/Dream Class? This design dates back to pre-1996 and all Carnival does is add more and more decks of cabins, some cosmetic upgrades, and calls it a new design. It was never that great of a design to begin with and it needs to be retired once and for all. I like to try all the new designs regardless of cruise line, but if the "next generation" Carnival ship is just more of the same on steroids (i.e. more cabins), then it's one less I have to try.

 

Meanwhile Royal Caribbean, NCL, Princess, etc. are introducing brand new from-scratch designs and Carnival just continues to lag behind. Oh well, I guess it's one way Carnival can offer fire sale, bargain basement pricing. Just tweak existing designs and cram in more passengers.

forgot about that. I will definitely miss the glass elevators if this is the case.
